  3. You can say that again about Ralph back in the days when i had my imported to Canada 110 CSW ....I leaned on him heavily for support, which was alway forthcoming..... I hope he still has time to fix his airplanes
  4. Hi Stephen; Yes, it's been awhile, thank you and the others for your informative answers. it's not so much the GEMS system that bothers me, it's the bleedin alarm ECU and engine immobilizer function that i want to get rid of......plus the nearest Land Rover dealer is 250 miles from my home..... Thanks; Dave
  5. Was there ever a 3.9 or a 4.0 V-8.... serpentined belted distributor equipped Discovery engine offered in the UK? We had them here in Canada (NAS spec) in 1995 only..........I'm looking for one to convert to an Edelbrock manifold and Holly Carb....... GEMS has to go........... Thanks in advance
  6. What on earth would we do without the expertise of some Forum members..........? I swear there are chaps on here and other Forums, who know more about Land Rovers than Land Rover themselves........
  7. Hello All........ I'm not on here very often but please bear with me.......... Stephen, aka SCL, has written a very definitive piece of info in the tech section on the alarm spider............. My 1996 Disco North American Standard just recently chucked all of the toys out and refuses to start...... I've narrowed it down to the Multi Function Unit or...........the alarm spider......... I just happen to have the factory "bypass" gizmo (mentioned in Stephen's post) on hand here....... I am about to tear into accessing the spider unit but i have a "nagging" question.......... If i fit the bypass "part" will the locking system, etc, still function ?? All replys appreciated............... Cheers Dave........... Landi 41 dredfern@nb.sympatico.ca

  10. Just getting into this Discovery ownership thing (my 110 was sold on) If i disconnect the battery to clean the terminals will the radio shut down and need to be recoded? Of course it being an used 1996 (V-8) i do not have the radio code........ Thanks;
  11. OK lads..... I for one insisted that it be pulled and my position was from one of fairness....after all if anyone called you lot a bunch of assholes, i'd have done the same thing..... Dave Redfern LR Addict Defender Forum mod.....
  12. Oh for the days when we ran on 2 fuses only.......easily locatable in the engine bay........
  13. Very well put Stephen......... I have the 235's with tubes on my 110 standard wheels and agree OK in practice although they do look a tad "pinched" for width......... My hope is to buy Wolf tubless rims......... my original wheels are rusty inside and the rust has caused tube failures thru chafing.......... In the long run i think it would be cheaper to buy new rims than to dismount, clean up, remount and rebalance tires........ to David Lang.........very interesting little diagram there David, says a lot ...........
  14. I'll bet it is a toss up between the sheep and the new Defenders you chaps can import The sudsey BBQ's sound good to!! Have a Happy New Year Stephen......... from the Canadians

  18. Oh you mean a "salt shaker" We had 6 to 8" of the white stuff here overnight...(not unusual) they had 12 to 18" + to the east of me, disrupted many airline flights and road travel plans..............
  19. Ain't that the truth Jim.............mostly junk parts........ but cheap
  20. Oh too true........ but in reality who would want to off-road a $50,000 plus Defender? If i ever win the Lotto....just for the hell of it i'd buy a new Rangie and "offroad it" to destruction
  21. We have the same burdensome tax as Ontario here in the Maritimes........... and the highest petro prices in Canada as well.......... So Alberta does have it's advantages, especially if you are starting from "scratch" setting up house, etc.......... Good Luck !!
