  2. Sad indeed Colin, i don't think we have any WWI vets alive in Canada. We have Nov 11, Rememberance Day coming up soon............... It's quite respected here in the East, a public holiday with ceremony's and all..............Sad to see the old boys marching along. We have a service and "stand to" at our Legion every year all the old vets are there, a lot of regular forces in full dress uniform as well......... Good time is had by all (especially after the bar opens My Dad was a Royal Welsh Fusilier in WWI and my brother did 6 years in the RCN in WWII even made it out to the Pacific............. Here is a pic of Jack, (in his memory, i wonder if any Australian Gals will remember him don't have one handy of the "Old Man" in uniform............ I'm going to write a book someday about Jack and his Naval adventures............. I have the title at least........ "Jack was every inch a Sailor:

  4. One thing to try is take it out for a good drive and then pop underneith and feed the UJs, if one's warm its on the way out. Thats a good tip Will....never thought of that one i usually wait till they are "floping" around
  5. Duh! never thought about a leaking slave......... always thinking the worst about Land Rovers i suppose Lets hope for his sake that is all thats wrong
  6. Pulling fairly hard across soft ground in 3rd low this morning the gearlever was wobbling about 3/4 inch side to side with the prop vibration (it wasn't doing that pre-lift) raise the speed & get it into 4th and the gearlever shake disappears but you can still "feel" it through the vehicle - if your seat of the pants is as tetchy as mine! I think the gearlever wobble is just a harmonic resonance with the frequency of the vibration hitting the resonant frequency of the engine/transmission on its rubber mounts. Hell Stephen i thought they all wobbled about lift or no lift, i know mine does and i like your "take" on harmonics, that covers a lot
  7. I'd guess that winch hook came flying back rather quickly What were the circumstances ? (for future reference
  8. Can't answer that box replacement question but in what condition are the universals in your steering shaft? and yes i think you can adjust the box, there is a slotted screw on the top secured with a lock-nut....... The drop arm ball joint is also a place to look for play as well as all of the track rod ends.......... It helps to have an assistant and go thru things point by point..............
  9. Airbags or i should say the lack of them are one of the things keeping the Defender out of North America
  10. I'd check the fluid level and maybe try bleeding the slave cylinder....... Worst case scenario........the clutch release arm may have worn thru the pivot ball
  11. whistler......Thats good to know for us on this side of the pond, thanks for the info and Oh i see you are moving up in the world... posting here and all
  12. A chap came round the other day and told me of a Land Rover sitting in a field hidden by high grass............. I investigated and lo and behold it was an Austin Champ.................. A bit beyond me i'm afraid....spares would be non-existant in Canada............. shame really

  14. I'll cover two replys in one.............. Thanks for the info Tood and whistler on the Ilti......... we may try to pick up one or two at auction depending where the prices are heading........... whistler see my post above explaining the lack of the re-painted 110 pic............ I have to get onto that project before the snow flies............
  15. Yes there was............... they could have given it to me :) I liked the line where the guy say it took much longer to crush than an American car........... probably had Jeep in mind :)
  16. One of the more interesting discussions of late................. I knew all along you needed a 3rd relay or a diode :) I just thought seeing the lads were putting you on the right track, that you would work it out :)
  17. from the Halifax, N.S. Chronical Hearald: Seized luxury SUV meets demise By NASREEN GULAMHUSEIN Derek Ross shook his head as he watched his car-crushing machine flatten a 2006, fully-loaded $95,000 Range Rover on Wednesday morning. The windshield shattered, the metal body bent like tinfoil and pieces of the car flew into the air as the machine’s jaws bit into the metallic orange vehicle. Debris lay scattered in the mud below the crusher. “What a mess,” said the 31-year-old owner of Rosco Crushing and Recycling Inc. He was hired two months ago to destroy the illegal Range Rover. Mr. Ross said the man who owned the U.S vehicle had a permit that ran out and he was unable to take it back into the United States. The car, which is built in England, is considered illegal in Canada, “because it is an American vehicle. It is not a Canadian version of the Range Rover,” said Mr. Ross. Jennifer Morrison, a spokesperson for the Canada Border Services Agency, said she did not know why the vehicle was seized at the border or the name of the owner. “I do not have that information and even if I did, I would not provide it to you,” she said, adding that, “in these types of situations, when something is here temporarily into Canada, we have to know whether it has been destroyed or has left the country.” An officer from the Canada Border Services Agency, who refused to provide her name, was present Wednesday to witness the crushing. “All she was concerned about was that the frame got damaged,” said Mr. Ross. “Once the frame gets damaged, you cannot rebuild the vehicle.” However, Mr. Ross wanted to make sure the entire car was crushed. “Someone could have taken everything out of that vehicle and sold it for parts or built a new car,” he said. “We would have been responsible for it. We’re not going to take a chance.” With leather seats, touch-screen GPS navigation system, rear-view camera and TV screens, the Range Rover is considered one of the most luxurious vehicles in the world. It took 15 minutes to flatten. “It should take 30 seconds to crush a car,” said Mr. Ross. “Big difference in quality from the American cars we usually crush.” Rosco Crushing is not paid for its services; it makes money by selling the scrap. “Eventually we will ship it out to Montreal. Put it on a flatbed and send it to our shredders,” said Mr. Ross. “We’ll probably get a couple hundred bucks for it.” newsroom
  18. Jeeze boys i hate to say it but hey! The American "Hot Rodders" figured this out years ago....... cubic inches or cubic centimeters = power (in simple terms) Along with the TD5, this new engine should further endear the brand to 3rd world Country users
  19. And you will need all the room in the back to fit the "black boxes" that run it
  20. I'd like to see them move that production line up to Canada.....only way we could ever get a new Defender............ unless the new, new Defenders will be sent to NA Then again i'd have to win the Loto to afford one
  21. A 2.2 ltr diesel would be a hard sell in North America........... I mean this is the land of cubic inches A small NA diesel is over 6 ltrs...............
  22. Pretty quiet in here............... I know the work crowd are off today (funny how the posts go up thru the work week but how about the others? Out getting dirty i presume.......... (with your Landys that is Remember if you can't get dirty you can always order up a can of "spray on mud" from Germany I freaked out a young driver yesterday who entered the market parking lot with his dirty Jeep......... I opened the conversation with, "Is that spray on mud? Then he spotted the 110 and knew i was a nut Actually he was a fine young chap with a sense of humor and a good knowledge of A. Jeeps and B. offroading.............
  23. Not sure on the engine change timing to Fords.............. but it could only be a good thing :)
  24. Hi Todd; I'm holding off on the pic for 3 reasons........A. the roofrack needs painting black and installed B. the wheels have to be changed over and C. my digi camera is out of order and D. It's raining here and will continue to do so till Tuesday !! Can you believe it almost a foot of rain so far this month....well maybe not quite a foot but it seems like it :) You musta driven those Ilti's are they any good? I heard at the end they were striping parts off of any they could find to keep the others running............ The G-Wagons have filtered down to the Reserves, there were a bunch out Friday on driver training........... We see a lot of activity here at Hampstead, the edge of the base is just up a dirt road......... all of the 4 wheelers sneak in there but i do it the legal way and enter the gate at Blue Mountain...... Range Control get pretty excited if you are in there without a pass............... Come to think of it we must be one of the few countries in the world that allow (basically) free access to their Army training areas
  25. I don't think even Land Rover know................. lets hope they get a decent heater by the the time the last one is finished
