  1. Spoke to guy the other day who's in the oil game...... He said confidently that we WILL be seeing prices of £1.30 plus in the new year.......... Gorden Brown your days are numbered Bet President Blair is killing himself laughing I have never actually gone out to support any of the fuel strikes in the past, but this time......... Jim Ps: Just looking through some stuff, in 1994 we were paying less than 50p a litre of diesel and it was half the price of petrol Where has it gone wrong........... Oh yeh, ten years of labour
  2. Always intrested Photos would be great Jim
  3. Suggested to the Girlfriend it would a great way of me celebrating my little boys first Birthday.............. But you guessed it, Grounded Never let it be said i'm under the thumb Sorry chaps but his day is a bit more important, will see you next year Jim Ps: Would love to see Chris's car going round Tixover, i think you'll like Edd's rocks
  4. I do not know who your supplier was, but fair play to them for sorting it out with a solution that was fair and in the end helpful I hope it gives you many happy years of service Jim
  5. Morning, It is normal to see lower gear damage when a mainshaft fails, but Seven teeth? Are the teeth completely missing or are they just damaged or flattened ? Damage usually occurs as the user keeps winching after the mainshaft has snapped in a kind of "What the feck was that noise" way. If you where winching to the side i would seriously check your mounting for strength issues, eg: twisting or buckling. as this will contribute to premature mainshaft failure. The website that Tony has linked to is very cheap, what you see in dollars you would normally pay in pounds For mainshafts though, only one place to call If competeting in anger it is unwise not to fit a hardened shaft, just because of the hassle caused when it does break and the expense of having to repair it. Rearaange into a well known saying: Stable Horse Bolted Hope you get it sorted, if you need any help just call Jim
  6. This is superb fun. So come on David i've taken the bait WHAT IS BEST ELECTRIC WINCH Awaiting enlightenment Nick 90: You of all people should know not to go around quoting figures from Manufactures that sell winches. These are based on something someone doddled on a pad and then thought 'i know we'll call those factual figures' The reality of all of this is that we have more choice than ever, and if you are looking for a mid market sensible lowline winch then the Ep9/12 or Dv9/12 take alot of beating inparticular due to there external cone brake making them suitable for Plasma style ropes (These winches are not waterproof in the slightest and do need mantainence if to be kept in good working order) Looking for a Top drawer brand(?) lowline, then the Warn Xp is a very powerful contender with the TI snapping at it's heels but reality is that the TI is no match for it's powerful brother. T-max........erm...................The outback series is Good very good, however the cheaper end of there range is Erm Not that great, but for the money again, takes a bit of beating. Want waterproof, lowline and powerful then the Huskey ticks all the boxes (If you have time to wait for it ) Then comes the hordes of other winches into which i'm going to bundle the M8000, the Magunm (German made M8000, excellent winch) Superwinch x9 (Have bust so many i can not recommend them, but also the base for those great winches, the G10 and 12) and the hosts of others that are all perfectly fine and comes down to personal choice, application, vehicle type and pocket size. Then there is the 8274, i hated this winch with a passion i can not begin to describe when i first started offroading, i called it "The hunch back of the winch world", however i grew up, realised that it is never going to set the world on fire in standard trim, but for reliability, parts availability and all the reasons so many have covered it is ignored at peril, it is the winch that changed offroading for ever (Anyone want to argue that?) and has become quite simply an iconic unit that is hated and loathed with as much vigour from both sides. It also has a resale value that no other winch can boast such is it's popularity.............. The choice is yours Personally i'm of to buy a Hydraulic unit so i can smell of oil And a PTO for the rear so i can call my car a tractor Joke Good thread Jim
  7. What a load of Spit and Waffle........... Very funny, what scares me is that some might listen So come then i'll bite too, 'Oh-great-offroad-master' what is the best winch for us all to spend our money on { Waves lighted cigarette in direction of touch paper} Speedy, For the money, easy fit, Easy use, parts availability worldwide and the ability to be upgraded at any time the 8274 takes a lot of beating. David is of course right the 8274 is old and yes we do wish that they would fit a better solenoid pack and the mighty XP as standard, but they do not. So until something better comes along (And i wait to be enlightened ) it would be a wise choice. The other thing that many also forget that is IF you choose to sell at any time the 8274 resells at very good money unlike many cheap winches that you can not give away once second hand. One other word of warning if you buy a winch from the States without a CE mark you will not get warranty back up in this country, this fine if you intend to rip it apart and put bigger motors on it etc..... But if planning to use it in Standard form, something to be aware of. One last thing that might be worth checking is that i am not sure there any 8274's in the country at present, but i might be wrong. Kind regards Jim
  8. I do not know what winch it is your using.................. However i have had a similair problem with a lowline winch. In this instance it turned out that part of the gear set had not been fitted to the winch during manufacture, allowing the winch to work until put under load. The winch was duely replaced by the importer and problem solved. In your case though i would be deeply concerned that the bumper/mounting has distorted and i would want this rectified with a superior mount capable of handling your winch. In this situation you must allow time for the dealer concerned to repair or replace both items. Be paitent, i know it is frustrating, but if they fail to sort out your problem then you can/should perhaps take it further. I wish you luck and a speedy resolution to this problem Jim
  9. Shovel on some coal............. Stand back and watch from afar Jim
  10. Will be in Minehead for Christmas Give me a call Jim
  11. That boss does look incorrect Steve, the fact the nut does not go on fully is indication of that, plus it also looks like a Discovery boss ? It is true we do do a slim line boss that keeps the steering wheel away from the driver However, we only sell it for offroad use only as it leaves the nut in the center of the wheel exposed. Normally at this point i would say "Give Jenny a call and she will happily help you" unfortunately see is of till Monday But if you need to check part numbers i am in a meeting till lunch but any time after that Jim
  12. All sorted now Thank you Jim Ps: Hello Mark, i did not think of Chatham? Scared i guess
  13. Most people i know that use terratrips in anger have two fitted as they do have a tendency to go wrong. However they are easier to use than the Brantz (In my opinion) and of the three i have had (303plus not 202plus) i have only had one unit fail and that was dealt with quickly by terratrip how where very helpful. I have little experience with Brantz. Jim
  14. Aahhhhh Sorry wrong end of stick I use a standard fuel cooler at present and my fuel tank is exposed. I also run a laminova cooler for my auto box and electric cooling fans with a large allisport rad........... However I just about to remove my laminova and electric fans, go back to viscous and have a new intercooler and gearbox oilcoolers made to fit in front of the rad. I do not have any trouble in the UK unless on motorways when the combined heat is to much for the cooling system on long journeys if i really gun it she overheats. Because of this i have decided to change. For 99% of stuff you are doing i think that the laminova will be fine for your application, but with the aggresive tune i'm running and the auto box and laminova is just to much for my cooling system when driving hard for long periods. Hope that helps Jim
  15. Mate if i knew how i would not hesitate Just hopeless at that kind of thing Jim
  16. Always excuses Your wifes the same, Took her for dinner when you were still stuck in the woods Saturday night, got all the promises no action....... Excuses, excuses, excuses But your sister........................ Love you mate Jim B)
  17. No one local i'm afraid paintman........ But thanks for the thought
  18. Cheers Mark, I forgot to add does anyone know of a stockist in the southeast
  19. My fuel tank on TD5 Racer gets very hot, in fact in the desert this year it was to hot to touch after long fast stages. We have considered fitting a laminova cooler rather than the standard unit as the standard one (inparticluar the late type) is tiny, so the larger Laminova can only help. I have also to say that we did not suffer any performance issues with the fuel getting that hot, but we did suffer with our fuel hoses deterioating due to the heat and at one point lost over 20litres of fuel because of this Hence the reason we are looking at using a laminova or an air cooled cooler. Let me know what you use Peter, will be intrested in an results good or bad Jim
  20. Need a 2.5pint Kelly Kettle for a mate for this Saturday and can not for the life of me remember who sells them Can anyone help? Thanks Jim
  21. A third thumbs up for Dieter Only young, but very clever and very knowledgable........ Oh, and he can drive a bit to Give him a call Alan, he will be more than happy to help, plus he has fitted many sets of Spyder's. Jim
  22. I am Trying hard to stay away from this for obvious reasons............ However, i tend to agree with Steve and Ciderman. The class system at present works, Although again i am not a fan of the AWDC class for none road going vehicles, i personally feel vehicles should be registered for the road. Before people start jumping up and down saying "But your vehicle is not really road legal" We all bend the rules as much as possible to gain as much as advantage as possible. As the sport progesses cars will change, 10 years ago at the Bulldog the most aggressive truck had mud terrians and a low line winch, Wow scarey Perhaps classes will need to change in the near future, but not quite yet. Ih ave found it refreshing to see that most organisers now are using my favored soultion to competition, which is make the route to the punch techincal and the punch average thus not body damaging. Two years ago my mate Simon Madgwick destroyed a very good 90 competeing in the AWDC series, however i believe that if he competed today he would do less damage as the layout has changed. Going to events and seeing people with front wings completely missing was common place, but now almost unseen. yes lots are using toughened wings, but not enough to see away with the damage we used to see. So to summise, kepp things as they are for present and if things change or an obvoius void appears then deal with it, until then let thngs find there own level. Jim
  23. Alan, You've got it wrong, i'm the one down the pub waiting for Simon Adrain's just not my type Jim
  24. Since finishing second to Edd Cobley two years ago.......... Simon Madgwick turned gay and and now likes to paint his nails whilist watching Eastenders before meeting his boyfriend down the local club........................ However, he has decided to maybe take up offroading again IF he does not have to break a nail, as false ones are uncomfortable Adrian do you still see him as a threat..? or more as love intrest..? Jim
