  1. It's about the magic 1 to 1, Baby.... Have friends that have done it...... And you won't beleive the money..... Leave this for winching timber, buy something decent for winching cars Or of course Helicoptor support (The option of choice i believe) One day they'll sus Hdyr.....something or other...... until then........ Leave alone bah Humbug Nice winch you've got there Mr Wightman Jim
  2. Why hello Paul, Nice to see your ugly mug about Welcome to the darkside Speak soon Jim
  3. Right or wrong..... It's all very sad I hope that one day we can all play together nicely There are no majors for some time now, so it's nice to see some good entry level events........ No matter who's running them I wish everyone success (Within reason ) Jim
  4. Got to say it, the best we've used so far (And i've bent quite a few) Is the one from Gwyn Lewis It's the bee's knees And very sensibly priced. Jim Ps: Someone does make an anodised tank, but can not for the life of me think who. Try Jake Wright of Yorkshire, i think it's them but not sure
  5. Hiya Bush, These xp's are modified by silver soldering the joints, right? And this seems to allow these motors use at 24 volt??? Very intrested in this, do they use one or two gearboxes? Or is this justy personal taste? Loads of questions Cheers mate Jim Ps: what Bl**dy time is it down there???? Do you ever sleep??
  6. I run a T4 system and i have to be honest, it's OK..........EEErrrrrrr..... That is if you like sytems that where designed by idiots, thta ain't ever worked on a car. The Rovacom is very nice, was very impressed by the system i saw recently that was wireless (No more cables, Hurray) But the only thing i found lacking in comparsion to T4 is the lack of a fault explorer option. This is the one thing T$ does well But i have to admit that i need a small portable system for our race car later this year, and i will probaly go for the Rovacom lite (Another sale Pongo ) I hope this helps Jim
  7. Thats Pants...... Never going to get through an M.O.T with out Mudflaps...... Nice work Robin.... Good to see you you've been keeping your hand in with Butt man.......... Nothing to Filthy, Boy o boy it is impressive....... So What are you doing next weekend...?? Fancy a hand painting the Seven bridge or have you got something larger in mind...?? Speak soon no doubt All the best Jim Ps: Bl**dy lovely, bout time we saw some pics
  8. Them Aussie kids ain't half ugly Running....... Have coat...... Exits stage right Jim
  9. Hello, Yes they are matched motors.......Of course The only complication of one or other motor failing is that the other motor will continue to idle it. So unless total bearing failure (Highly unlikely) No problems. As for the free wheel, Well lets be honest have you ever used one??????? In that case , i rest my case We are also testing a free wheeling drum at present and if this works as well as we hope, then you will only need to power in and free spool out (Unless lowering of course) As for why have we left the freewheel toggle.....Eerrrrrrrrr......Why not? and it does a fantastic job of holding the small spur gear in the correct location. As for back lash in the system and is there enough.....Yes, Is the simple answer. This winch shown is one that has been built for a customer, and then he has added his own drum. This is why it is not nicely painted. Will be running one of these at the ultimate, But with the freewheel drum option added as well. Please feel free to ask questions, and i will endeavor to answer them as quickly as pos. Regards Jim Ps: Ironically compared to some Aussie conversions this is still quite tame It is a worry
  10. Bout the same as Jules, Ooouch Hurts every time i think of it
  11. Being using Rose joints on my rear trailing arms for 2 years. Ace Should have done it eariler. The only prob we have encountered tis that you must mantain them, and you get what you pay for. We also tryed on the front but found that the lack of bushing caused the radius arms to facture Buy cheap, get cheap. One of my friends rose jointed the whole back end, and my god the noise was deafening, evreything was transfered up the arms to the chassis and then body. We leave one end bushed the other jointed. We are just a bout to test some new fancy rebuildables, but as i said, you get what you pay for Also be aware of the amount of deflection you are looking for (side to side movement) as you will be suprised by the difference. Hope this helps. Jim
  12. Thanks TAT team, Nice to have this info Very difficult to know where to find you. I know that a few Brits have read your write ups and are now thinking of going Spam? you really think so Chris????? Thanks once again TAT team Jim
  13. Hello, Yeh a lot of us still run full bodys........But I think you will start to see a swing towards tray backs and i think you will see British cars becoming lighter and longer I have just ordered two new chassis for new cars we are building, and yeh, you guessed it they will be both tray backs. I aslo agree with Jon that some of the tray backs out there are Bl**dy ugly, and have had little real thought put into there design and manufacture. But the concept is sound Hell, that many aussies can't be wrong can they????????? But whether the tray back will be lighter than a standard rear tub? well that remains to be seen. I'll be intrested in which way you decide to go But have you noticed how cheap rear tubs are at present.....Quite amazing. Regards Jim PS: Sorry for not replying to your pm Jules having pc trouble Will mail you shortly
  14. Hiya, Love all this... Dolly i have yet to see a Tpye r beat an 8274 in ANY competition...........Disagree? The type 'r' failed in russia last year and to the best of my knowledge wasn't exactly great in France in December. Of course that is second hand info The type'r' will undoudtably be a good winch (Like the pun?) When it's been finished and tested by those that can..... But the fact remains (And this is missed by those'That can't') that drive assist and being able to feel for your winch is ever so important when using a winch for that that was NOT intended by the manufacturer. Having a winch that will pull your house is undoubtably a great quaility in bottomless swamp Eg: Ladoga. But for the Home nations, feel is required and that is where the tpye 'r' falls down. But, i'm sure that it will progress into something that WILL beat the 8274........Eventually. I am not being biased, cos' i will use the best system available Jules, If your fiitting a second alt, go 24 volt add another battery and leave your 12 volt circiut clear for engine and lights This gives you a dedicated 24 volt winch system that is uncomplicated and very effiecent Plus you can winch forever. Before the critics jump down my throat. Croatia last year i did a single line pull across a swamp (200ft including extension) Got the other side and the motor was barely warm. The cars with hydrallics tried to follow but sank and had to go out backwards due to not being able to drive assist! others tried across the middle and burnt out motors Am not trying to blow my own trumpet. just trying to give you the REAL reason we use 24 volt I hope this info is some use. Regards Jim Ps: Give it time and hydrallics will win...............But not yet!
  15. At the same Junction meself Petrol??? Diesel???? So i looked at it logically. Been using Diesel for Errrrrrrr Ever Probs? err None People that i know that have probs at minute, err Yes you guessed it all drive V8's And before you ask, These guys have spent thousands...... Then thers the other way of looking at it, Who do i fear/respect the most and what do they drive? Bout fifty fifty to be fair. Love the V8, But it's got to be LR, cos of parts availability.......So Same with the diesel. So we opted for TD5 even though this has ALL of the electircal probs of the Newer v8's WHY? Cos' if i had a V8 i'd only fill it with diesel anyway But ultimate engine????? Not the TGV (Parts availability in foreign clims to risky) Not the Rover V8 (Just to fragile) Not the Td5 (To much funny stuff) Not the TDv6 or TD6 (Just not enough known) So there we have it , i'm not gona get one from L/R. So Looks like i'll have to start looking at the DARK side Jim Ps: Jules, Jez where do i start looking??????
  16. Thank you To all At the HBRO, what a great day. Thank you to the marshalls, and also the other competitors for just generally being good eggs. As Paul "It's my title" Wightman said earilier we where teamed with Lee and Ann in there bobtailed range Had a top laugh and really enjoyed the day. Took it gently all day up until the last hour where i could not resist anymore and we went for a play on the punches by the entry gate. Fantastic, really good stuff B) Poor ole Lee was having a few fuel probs by this time (Like a lack of it!) and a knee that was twice the size of normal (Took a nasty bang early in the day) But we got back in plenty of time with lots of smiles. No damage bar a side light lens (Oooops) and some slight range rover body work issues So once again Thank you Nice to have a relaxing day for a change Jim Ps: My only regret is not getting to spend any time with Michele Sorry Mate
  17. Yeh...... Part from the fact he was co-driving Nah, I know that the organisers went on to supersylvania then Croatia..... But There is at present ANOTHER Transylvania running apprently in July, and this is the one i am trying to get some info on. I am awful at searches so wondered if anyone here can help? Cheers Keep it coming Jim Ps: Michele, don't mean to seem rude, will PM you later
  18. Hiya Everyone, Anyone got any links to an offical site? or know an details of this event? Anything, no matter how small would be of great help Has anyone been? Or does anyone know someone who has entered in recent years???? Look forward to your thoughts and help Regards Jim
  19. I might just know some one who is that silly perfect partner for you Just waiting to make sure that his car is still in one piece and i'll give a call for you. Comes from the same stable and knows how to crash drive his car and everything Will have a chat and see if he's up for it. Jim Ps: Thats another friend of the list............
  20. Yeh, would love to mate..... Got a winch drum to test Cheers Jim Ps: Peter, if i'm im the mood, i don't mind doing a small winch class for you and the others.
  21. Cheers Paul (and others), Superb day, Had alot of fun, No damage And a girlfriend that was still talking to me at the end! Almost the perfect day If she hadn't have been talking to me it would have been Boom, Boom! I have to confess that the reason i did not do the punches is because i was scared Since a bought this bloody Smart car, i have started to notice funny things happening...... As you can see from the pic of me i have even started standing like i'm Gay.......... Add to this the urge to want to drive a BMW convertiable and shave my chest and i think we have proof that i've flipped Don't worry will be back to me self for Muddy Truckers............ But For the Mike wolf........ I might just wear a dress Cheers once again Jim
  22. Paul, I would love to mate....... But for some biazar reason (Lost me marbles) Have decided that siting on a river bank clutching a barely warm flask in the search of fish is far better Once i have got this out of my system for the year, i'll be back with you See you the following week Jim
  23. I was lucky to be the one of the first crews to test certain winch lines and fair leads options Many Moons ago.. And there where no ali fairleads available, so we made ali ones. These where seen by certain people and the rest is history. But we also learnt very quickly that the alloy wears very fast This nearly cost me a winch, as the grooves had widened so much that the drum walls stretched putting massive pressure on the main casing So i only use stainless now Seen Simons (Devon) latest offering, and it is lovely. Another friend of mine is trying something a bit different Nylon, Yes nylon. And so far it works very well. I'll keep you posted. Jim
