  2. Hello, Intresting to hear your veiws on wot happened to Simon and Chris. Word is that they got proper stuck in a section for two hrs broke both winches and then the organsiers closed the section??????? Giving them only 100 points as consolation? The same as one punch Seems like a tough/Sh*t desicion for Simon and crew. You don't close a section when the championship leaders have just lost two hrs..... You leave open to make it fair. If others want to DNF for a score that is up to them. Giving everyone a DNF score then after is just crazy. Or you stop the event to allow them time to repair (Iknow this is not possible at this event) Or you leave the section open and give all teams a clear warning. Seems a shame to have so many questions after what has been a good two horse title fight. Seems, should i say this?...........Not a little odd? Comments??????????? Jim:rolleyes:
  3. Had the pleasure of watching Steve and his new toy at the Three peaks......... Man oh man thats a beast! Scared the SH*T out of me as meer landrover axle owner Winch is also something to behold (Even more scared ) It was fun watching something truley different ,a credit to the bloke WHO is prepared to think outside the box Am competing againist Steve in a few weeks time, I'll let you know how we get on (Nervous laugh) Got a feeling where gona get our arses kicked Ho Um........ Jim
  4. Being using simialr mounts on the front arms most of this year. Big difference is we where testing rose joints rather than bushes....... Its a quick easy way of getting back to standard if it all goes horribly wrong........ Lovely Nick, Now i can see who's the brains in your organisation...... Am running before he sees that...... See ya Jim
  5. Only one to use...... Thats Speedglas 9 out of ten pro welders use this product. Do not agree with about the solar though, but thats just a personal thing as we have had many solar units pack up. However i do agree that sod and his law dictate that the batteries will die just after the shops have shut. But on the bright side you can still use the mask as a standard unit if the Solar/batteries die. Go for Speedglas in my humble opinion. The cheap ones just do not last. (However i must point out that we use our unit almost daliy, which doubt your going to do) Hope this helps a small bit Jim Ps: Batteries still going strong on both our helmets, one at 6 months and the other at approx 18 months Our solars would normally have died by now
  6. Don't forget the Girls Lara.........uummmmmmmmmmm There are times you really wish you don't have a girlfriend............ Actually thats most of the time????????????? (Iam so dead if she reads this ) Look forward to next year, more of the same please JJ and crew. All the best Jim Ps: Will get that F**king truck finished and start playing or you'll forget what the pedals do! Oh yeh, Cv's still in piece So far......... Destruction tests start next week, i'll keep you informed.
  7. My mate Chris has portals He also has a 3dr Range.... A 5.7 chev lump....... 3spd Auto Cyrs box....... Tracker body kit.......... MASSIVE 2inch radius arms (4link) Hydrallic steering.....yeh yeh! Five, forty four inch tyres A Hangover, and a complete lack of time...... And wants me to do the welding... Yeh Yeh He also had a sex life before this project begain................. But she's F**ked off to! Cars, Don't you just luv them..... But.... If it is ever finished, it will be monster And Banned from every event i want to enter.....Ha Ha Hes reading this over my shoulder Jim Oh and Chris Hello...Eeeerrrrrr?
  8. Is that a dig Sir The reasons for trailering a car to an event are many, in this case cos i could not get my tent and beer in the SV with the rest of my kit. I would also like to point out that the SV is MY EVERY DAY car and of that i am very proud (Just drove to the three peaks and back, And earlier this year was the ONLY team to drive to the Croatia Trophy and back, including the Europeons!) I do not know of one other driver in side the so called top twenty that can say this, so in furture please use your words wisely Take off wind-up hat Continue........... F**k class systems, thats is wot ruined Comp safari, Run head to head and just enjoy the challenge, you never know just how good YOU might be.... Simon Madgwick is currently leading the AWDC series.......His motor a 'C' plate 90 200 with a 8274 and a home made cage, Oh and lockers. Oh and before saying "OH but he can drive" He is just like YOU just a bit tubbier.....HaHa........ Cos "I" have not done a AWDC event this year i am also being branded as "Scared of losing" Oh well so be it. It does not matter.... Nor does what axle you have. Many of the people here moaning have more toys than he, but he enjoys himself and lets the rest come naturally. Stop making such a big deal about everything just "GO AND DO IT" rather than talk about it. Really the sport needs ALL of you and Some more, just not the bickering...... Look Forward to seeing you AT Santas, or maybe the Ultimate, or Muddy Truckers or a europeon event perhaps????? Thought not Just come and have some fun All the VERY best Jim
  9. Superb thread!!!! Bout time this brought up and addressed properly After this weekend some organisers have mentioned banning portals and some modifactions fromt top flight competitions....... AAAhhhhhhh! was my reply to these people (Who are aslo friends) Keep the portals keep the mods and keep driving..... Any set up is not with out it's faults and for that gained with portals, you lose in other areas, So, Let people develop and change, let them try something different, we all might just learn from it. Competitions might get better, Cars might improve, Portals might be resigned the bin after one or two years, landrover might build a strong axle (Not likely ) might all take up GOlf But my point is this, it does not matter what you run, the best will still be the best, people will still moan, And those with well paid jobs will lust, and those with technical ability will make, and those haven't will want what we've all got. So whats the problem? I personally am looking forward to the challenge of portals, and can not wait for my first chance to drive againist them competivly, It should be fun. It give me the chance to improve and change MY ideas So bring it on All the Best Jim (I have small axles ) Ps: Steve (MCS) Love the truck, KEEP ON TRUCKING, See you at Tong
  10. Thanks to Munster 4x4 for the best Three Peaks yet..... Mildly miffed it down all day Saturday, but it was still bloody amazing Over 70 vehicles on three sites for two days, and hardly saw another vehicle all weekend, Wow! To say it was tough is an understatement, and i must mention the teams that went without axle lockers or two winches in there trucks, cos they must have worked hard... Thanks to all those that made the social side as good as ever. Will see you there next year (If I recover ) All the best Jim Ps: Nice to meet you Lara, did you have a good time?
  11. Gulp! Yikes! I have not got a clue whether it is right or not, but it's scared the SH*t outa me!!!! Very impressive Jim Ps: i'll keep to the simple explainations
  12. You are all pretty close..... I will try to explain as simply as I can..... White 90's picture shows the problem perfectly Wot is happening is that (Astro al is spot on here) Is when a propshaft is used in anyother plain other than striaght, it turns going fast slow, fast slow fast slow Under stand??????? Let me try putting it differently if you look at white 90's picture you will see that the uj nearest the diff is inline with the prop, So when this is rotated it travels as a consant. However the uj at the other end of the propshaftis working at a greater angle (nearly20' i guess) This means when it turns t goes fast slow fast slow fast slow causing an ossilation. Before the new springs where fitted the propshaft angles would have been much closer, thus when the propshaft turned the action of each uj cancelled out that of the other......Yeh, got it This why when you fit a carden jointed(triple jointed) Prop the problem is solved. This is because the double joint cancels itsself out and the lower is turning inline, therefore no Viberation. Bloody Hell, do hope that wasn't to complicated to understand If in doubt call me Jim
  13. Yeh, But in that situtation does where the ,Eerrrr, torque go matter???????? Surely you just want to get everything back to normal as soon as and crack on.... Or is this one of those wierd scientific threads and i'm once again out of my depth?????? Errrrrrrr...... Jim
  14. Have I missed something..??? Or is this all as strange as I first thought.... Does it matter ....? If the Center diff is locked it is supplying equal load to front and rear as a fixed shaft, so again, Have i missed something confused Jim
  15. Have Momo wheels on the shelf for around£90 +vat Boss is around £35 If anyone is intrested. We also do a custom bad adaptor to keep the steering wheel in the same position as a standard wheel, rather than most bosses that bring the steering wheel much closer to the driver. Sorry don't usually do the "Plug" thing...... Jim
  16. Hello, 90/110 circa '84 to 90' has the same steering shaft as a def td5 csw. Def90/110 circa 90' to present are all the same apart from TD5 csw which is of course the same earlier..... Understand...?????? Thought not As for disco and range?????? F**k knows? Jim
  17. Hello, Have worn out three or four sets of ET's and have never managed much more than between 7000/9000 miles But i do sell them before they are totally shot. Chris (one of me blokes) uses ET's daliy and has had a problem with one cracking round all the large lugs ( Very nasty) His front are now almost bald with only 8000miles on them However the rears are still in good order. A friend of mine who does pretty much the same stuff as me changes is wheels between events and has only done a couple f hundred miles n the road. His tyres still have a huge amount of thread but irroniclly he will be changing themsoon because of side wall damage and lugs that have been ripped ff. He has had them approx 2.5 years? So it would seem that you caught between a rock and a hard place which ever way yu go. Hope this has not wrecked yer day All the best Jim
  18. Acttually had a Landrover nut (Supposed) ask me once why i had a 'D' plate reg on the SV, Errrrrr? After i had had stopped pissing me self..... I gave him a quick friendly slap and went about me business..... Some people.... This plate has saved me money in the past though Traffic warden thought it read D90 SV But of course it is really D9 OSV Saved me me skin whilist he was trying to work this out..... I got the hell out-a-there And the rest is history Jim
  19. Thats an OX alright..... Chain driven junk... Makes good paper weight B)
  20. Love to see some photos if you have any????? Wot car is going to have the honour of that lot up front...? I have got to ask as to the reasons you have gone this route?(It's a jealous thing) I am not taking the tiddle, I have considered this route in the past but seemed overkill for any defender type vehicle once i'd got it down on paper What size alternater have you opted for in the end? And are you using smaller faster motors with less load or big 6hp+ with heavy draw? And YES am really intrested, Please PM if you wish. All the best with the project Jim
  21. With out meaning to state the rather obvious..... But, If they are getting rid of that lot early 2006 Then what are they gona put in Defenders??????????????? Just thought i'd ask See ya Jim

    Td5 Auto

It is quite a common conversion if you use a Zf4 speed without the electric shift. The engine fit is well documented and Ashcrfot can supply all the parts inc Box for the auto conversion. Friend of mine has had his done recently and reckons it's the best mod on his Defender (Is a factory fit TD5) Trick is to get a full engine and main harness from a breaker (Was charged £250 for both harness and dash facia inc dials) And then source a good engine. I wish you luck, could be a nice vehicle if you have time to do it (thats the hard bit!) There also bits on the TD% that are not require IE: Egr modulator, Airflow meter etc Getting rid of these of course makes life easier. Hop this helps Jim
  23. Hello Mate, I sell lengthened and or reduced diameter drums for 8274. I also sell hardened mainshafts that do away with all problems with breakage and gets rid of that troublesome circlip. Please pm for details and prices. All the best Jim Ps: Yes they are the Bo**oxs!
  24. See this alot... Other tips that might help. Poor a small amount of water on the belt with the engine running, if squeakin stops its the belt, if it does not its a bearing. If it's the belt remove belt discard, but before fitting new item, clean the pulleys carefully to remove all wax depoists and any other bits caught in there. Do not spray with wd40 as this just makes it worse. Becareful with the tensioner, often the problem is not so much the bearing but the shoulders the bearing fit upon being worn. Also look between the the sprung sections of the tensioner, there should be a plastic spacer, if this is worn away bin the tensioner and start afresh. Landrover do an anti-squeal belt... However it is very expensive, The cheap way go and buy the correct length belt made by GATES, Squeak much less than the orginal dayco version. Hope this helps Jim
  25. Toyota made a winch for there race teams thats a balant copy of the 8274... Saw a Toyota in Croatia belonging to a italian team that had them front and rear.... Very good and very fast. The intresting part was the freewheel (Which they must just hated on the 8274) instead of it releasing the motor, the freewheel freed the drum so that it could turn freely. Real nice, well built bit of kit. God knows where you would find one, and God knows how much they would cost. Jim
