  1. It is normally only a bad regulator that will over charge a battery, the hissing is indicative of that, however you say the other battery was fine? If so then I suspect you just had a battery go bad on you, perhaps shorted internally which caused the heat and then hissing. As for a monitor, any of the really cheap things are fine, it is only measuring voltage after all, e.g. 12V-60V Car Motorcycle Marine Battery capacity indicator monitor Voltmeter Meter | eBay
  2. The fluid looks pretty brown, doesn't seem like it was maintained to any great degree....
  3. ...and more on the speed sensor: Hilux Surf LN130 1UZ-FE | Lexus-Toyota V8 UZFE Forums (lextreme.com) Complete with how to make the auto fit to a Surf transfer box.
  4. This has some info on the speed sensor: Reincarnation: 1uzfe reanimates 4runner with impending flatline | Page 4 | Lexus-Toyota V8 UZFE Forums (lextreme.com) and another: 1uz into 1990 lj78 prado | Lexus-Toyota V8 UZFE Forums (lextreme.com)
  5. Yup, there is a sensor... 6 pointed star inside the tail housing.... Never needed it but as we know there's quite a few variants of loom/ECU out there.
  6. The BW box is very strong in all honesty, and muuuuch quieter than the LT230. If you have your old one, I suggest a new chain and viscous and bolt it in. An LT230 conversion is fine, but more work than you think, including handbrake fiddling, linkage, maybe even cutting a bit out of the tunnel for the lever.
  7. Same. There is a good for sale group for comp safari stuff on FB, if so inclined, may stop a muppet wasting your time.
  8. They have got better in recent times, with proper cases and some PnP offerings: DIY-EFI – Bringing you EFI solutions on a budget Their plugs appear better on some of the offerings than the MS D37.
  9. Agreed, Arduino looks great, but 'just' builds on the MS stuff very heavily, including using Tunerstudio etc, so the differences can't be that wild. The hardware, as Fridge suggests, seemed much less developed than even a MS1 V3, I don't see the benefit.
  10. I often find they open just enough to make things cold, lottery if you get a good one.
  11. Yup, I totally underestimated you, and overestimated the weight.
  12. What sort of gap are you after between the spring seats, front and rear? Perhaps being thick, but did you weigh the front and rear separately?
  13. They do run cool, but you should get SOME heat out of it
  14. A weak thermostat, very common even in new items, can do this. Or could just be the heater is being overcome by all the draughts.... What does your temp gauge say? Checked the water level?
  15. There'll be 100Kg difference between 200tdi and 1UZ when both dressed.
  16. That's.... Lighter than I suspected. Nicely done.
  17. Plenty more in that, what you on about?
  18. If chunky rust then it will come off and end up in the oil, harming stuff. A bit of surface rust likely isn't a problem.
  19. A bit of contact cleaner squirted about often works wonders on those sorts of switches.
