  1. When I replaced the cappings on my 90 with some nice galvanised ones, the old ones were a complete b*stard to get off! Probably didn't help that they were that badly corroded they came off in bits God knows what they used when they were fitted, it looked almost like some kind of resin!! I ended up having to staighten my tub slightly as well - great idea of yours with the grinder though. I just used some similar stuff to Tigerseal - being galvanised I can't imagine having to replace them any time soon! Oh and get all the rivets in place before you start 'popping' them
  2. It now almost sounds like I know what I'm talking about... sometimes! My Mum used to use that saying, and i've come to learn it's so true! Leaving that nut off (probably because it's awkward) says a lot about this 'mechanic' - I trust you won't be using him again! Great news that it's alright now though
  3. Could the float heights, if set too low cause this problem? I'm sure a grown up will be along soon with a better answer/suggestion....
  4. I like it! The topic that is... But £35 for that? Not as 'bling' but I think I'll stick with these two I have: http://www.frost.co.uk/thread-pitch-gauge.html http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-engine-and-mechanical-tools/thread-gauge.html
  5. It probably does... but in this scenario the conduit run will only be 1.5m tops, so pulling the cable shouldn't be a problem? Very kind offer there Chris, Thanks. However I think I'll go with buying an elbow.
  6. Use a big g clamp (or similar) to compress the pipe into a slightly oval shape, move clamp around the pipe 90 degrees and repeat... Worth a try?!
  7. All makes sense - thanks for clearing that up Lesmond
  8. Cheers guys - simple solution there! I have a TLC Direct near me, they appear quite reasonable? One other question I have is regarding the adaptors - it's clear why they're called male and female, but why would you use one over the other?

  10. Soon I will be 'sorting out' the wiring in my garage. Plan is to run PVC conduit from any sockets/switches to ceiling level. One particular socket will require conduit with 1 x 90 degree bend in it. Now, call me tight but I don't want to buy bending springs just to use once. so, does anyone have any suggestions/tricks on how to bend conduit without springs? I'm sure I've read somewhere before about packing with sand - would this work?
  11. Funny you should ask, I'm looking to buy some soon to put on my refurbished frames. So i've been looking at prices and it was paddocks or craddocks that came out cheapest...
  12. I've used a big (2 litre?) metal syringe for many years on all sorts of vehicles. It's simple and versatile, the flexible 'spout' allowing you to use it in all angles/positions. I think i got it from difflock about 8 or so years ago... A bit like this, it is:
  13. To be fair either will do for going off road. EFI will give you a bit more grunt but they both have the same problem - they do not like water!!
  14. Have we had X-Safe...? X-Protect...? X-Shield...? X-pregnable? X-Fend... I definitely haven't seen.
  15. Thanks for all your comments ejparrott. So my proposed diagram looks ok?!! However I think I will wire the sockets on radial circuits as it'll mean less cable, less running of cable and therefore less 'moving things around' - there's a lot of stuff in my garage!
  16. I'm hoping to get on with this in the near future so will be ordering cable soon. Just need to get an idea of where and how I'm going to run the cables. So today I have come up with this - working bank holidays isn't so bad The cables will be 1.5mm T&E or 1.5mm singles - with all the lights on I come up with a load of about 5.5A so a 6amp breaker will be fine as will the 1.5mm cable. The consumer unit is a 2 way, 30Ma RCD protected item with a 40A Main switch, 1 x 6A MCB and 1 x 32A MCB. I plan to install 3 x 2 gang sockets, wired radially in 4mm T&E ran in conduit up to joist height. Would be good to hear any comments... But please be kind, as I've said before this is all new to me!!
  17. Good point, however I have already secured some old colours SWA so I think I will continue with that 'theme'. As for your other comment - I didn't know that. This is all new territory for me. However I have a good idea of the bits I need and how I'm going to install it now, the only thing that I'm unsure of is the lighting circuit. As I will be using 2 way switches for some of the lights I plan to use singles, what (if any) are the implications of me buying a bulk reel of say black cable and using that thoughout the lighting circuit, with some insulating tape of the correct colour(s) for identification?
  18. Old colours, would then look as though it's been there since before 2004 Or am I missing something?
  19. Ok I'm slowly getting a plan together, just a quick query. I reckon I'll need to run 4mm cable for the ring main, I plan to run it in conduit and as I understand it's standard practice to use singles in conduit? Trouble is 4mm single in red seems difficult to come by so is there anything stopping me splitting red/black T&E into singles?
  20. Make sure you have a 1 1/16" socket & spanner! Or at least that's what I used for the 3/4" bolts that connect the arms to the chassis...
  21. I've requested more info on where abouts he is in Liverpool, will report back once I know more. As for the size, it's just some cable. Not a ridiculous size/amount mind you, just there's something specific about this cable that I require.
  22. I'm not sure the seller would want to hold on to to it until then. Thanks anyway
  23. I've got my eye on something on a well known auction site, problem is it's in Liverpool and I'm near Oxford. The seller is unwilling to post or allow me to send a courier, so... I'm hoping some kind soul is near Liverpool and is willing to collect and post to me - beer tokens at the ready!! If anyone thinks they can help, I will 'bug' the seller some more and obtain a more exact address.
