  6. one small thing to think about is some off road sites and clubs dont allow dislocation cones
  7. nop it wont bend any where near enough to get the sharpness required if it is of required thickness to pass an mot hence i have a lenght sitting in the workshop after trying this myself
  8. nail on the head thats the best 3 hitachi is a little cheeper though but equally as good
  9. make sure you use nylock nuts or nut lock they can shake lose
  10. been using makita for 10 years now as an electrical contractor brilliant stuff cheep and easy to repair the other very good manufacturer is matabo were given them by my old employer proper bullet proof stuff yet a little unknown
  11. its all ther used it as referance for my conversion
  12. its very easy only problem i incountered wes undoing the retaining nuts whilst stopping the shock turning got over this by holding them with pipe grips or stilsons the other slightly more messy option is to hit a large screwdriver through them and holding it tight
  13. having just installed a second hand tmax 9500 on the defender i have a problem all is ok winching out but when i try to winch in the soliniod just chatters and the drum does not move may be a wiring diagram would be helpfull if any one has one as i do have a small black cable hanging lose which appears to be an earth but it goes on a connection which links between both soliniods but as one works ie the out one and it does not look like it was ever connected i am not sure of its purpose any help greatly appriciated
  14. had cooper stt with no lift and now have insa turbos on mine with 2 inch lift both 235/85 16 with no problems atall
  15. thats a difficult one but to be honest i probably would have although i think £20 is plenty enough
  16. having visited foxham 4x4 again today we found it was under new managment having spoken to the new manageress we paid our £5 to renew our membership and £20 pay and play fee all good and much improved site too marshells which were very good before are now better and its all together much better site having had 5 very happy hours we went to the washing station to clean lights, mirrors and wheels so as not to cover the road with lots of mud and the safety aspect of not having un ballenced wheels and as we had to go on the mway home we needed to see our mirrors we were then told we had to pay £2 to have this done by a very pleasent man but that aint the point we already paid £20 which concidering how many were there today i think the owners would of turned a tidy profit so why a further £2 surley they are oblidged to provide a means of washing for free what do you think sorry new managment but we do this hobby cos its relitivly cheep and although £2 aint exactly a kings ransom coupled with the play fees and burgers it all adds up
  17. the self drillers will go through the not so captive nuts and fix to the inner frame work so dont have to drill them out and risk them becoming stuck to your bit
  18. i spent fkin ages trying to do mine many fags and counts to ten breathing deepley later i resorted to self drillers like you use to hold tin sheets to a roof works a treat looks a bit shoody but never mind
  19. ok so have just purchased a winch and bolt on addapter plate for the defender the question is are the standard bolts which currently hold the bumper on suitable for the new winch plate or are higher grade stronger ones required cheers
  20. problem solved 1 of the front wheels was slightly bent they discovered whils trying to balance it so well worth getting the balencing checked if your experancing this
  21. got a whole td manifold and turbo removed from mine when 200tdi engine fitted for sale if you wanted it
  22. got more than the shakes on mine and have read all the posts and checked all bushes dampers bolts ect(all seam ok) but refused to belive the wheel balancing could cause so much of a problem but after an off roading day last weekend it got massivly worse i could not get over 35 mph i can only assume the extra ****e on the wheels contributed to the already worring problem and the tyres are quite worn anyway new insa turbos should be arriving this week which i shall take to the tyre shop and get fitted and ballanced correctly i will then post on here to see if it is the cure if not i think the only souloution is for a full service of the sterring to check castor canber and the toe of the steering georometry need to try to keep this post alive as i know someone has made a very good check list of this problem and all contributions are very helpfull to other members as this seams to be a common problem
  23. where abouts are you i may know for a defender 200tdi like changin a light bulb then no messin with exhausts inter coolers ect
  24. Mine was exactly the same most people agreed it was worn piston rings only on one cylinder in my case this allows preasure into the sump resulting in oil being pumped back to air filter and turbo dont bother rebuilding chuck a tdi init its a quantum leap from the old 2.5 well worth it
  25. only trouble is it seems one key fits all on defenders all of our groups fit each others an the second hand doors i bought from the scrappy opened with my original keys too, so other security strongly recomended
