I'd check that wire's connections aren't loose. Have a look at the condition of the alternator belt?
Actually, what year is yours? my head is in 200tdi mode!
Do you mean the Speedo or the rev counter?
Speedo - Either normal, or if its getting worse could be loose speedo/broken speedo cable. Or nackered speedo head like mine!
Rev counter - mine did the waving about randomly when the alternator belt was on the way out. Is it slow to respond when you up the revs quickly?

I would look at getting the AEU2522 As fitted to early 110/90. They are supposed to be the strongest LR CVs. But with your 32 spline stub axles, you would need to change them for longer ones.
I believe there are more regulations that will make getting them to conform harder. This is the reason the BFG KM was discontinued and I guess the reason the Cooper ST is too. Noise levels/rolling resistance etc.
Thoroughly enjoyed it . I wouldn't have been stood where james was
Stunning places around there, would love to drive some of that!
Also noticed the Disco
I bought a set as I needed some other things from MUD. Still yet to fit them .
When I ordered they were lost somewhere between here and the USA, Mud kept me posted . Great service
As far as I know, the D2 body is only longer behind the rear wheels, just the over-hang. Land rover used D1 bodies on the D2 test mules, jsut with an extended rear.
I would have thought it do-able. But not just a nuts and bolts swap AFAIK.

You say you can't get to motorway speeds... is this because the truck is revving its nuts off? If so then the 35" will up the gearing, not sure how much though.
I would have thought they would be better on the road than special tracks .
