  1. Have you found the engine number? It will be a great help as it can be 'read' to help ident its age etc. Steve
  2. These requirements are included in the SVA manual. Automatic self leveling. Wash system (Does not mention wipe) Accompanied by evidence that the installed system complies with UN ECE reg 98, 99 and 48.01. As you say there are plenty of vehicles on the breakers with either motorised or vacuum mechanisms so it should be possible to Heath Robinson something that would work but you will fall down on the compliance bit. Steve
  3. I assume you are testing at the sensor rather than the dash end of the wire. Yes the resistance should change. Don't know the description Green ring but suffice to say the sensor on a 3.9 V8 will go from 9210 Ohms at -15C to 2420 Ohms at 19.5C and 181 Ohms at 100C. You need to know this info to calibrate MegaSquirt. Steve
  4. I think you're going to need a laminated copy of 'Section 4(3)a of the road vehicle (lighting) regulations 1989' with a hole in the corner and cable tied to the dash. Think it's going to get a lot of use as BIB will take some convincing. Steve
  5. I think you will find the lights need to be more than just masked over. As a guide the SVA manual states it must not be possible to reinstate the lights without the use of workshop equipment. An advisory note within VOSA clarified this giving an example that something like crimp terminal tooling or soldering irons required rather than screwdriver and a pair of pliers. Cutting the wires and tying them back should suffice along with removing the bulb and if possible the bulb holder. I can find you the exact wording if you need to convince a tester. Steve
  6. The engine number should be stamped on the block just above the dipstick unless it is a very early engine as I think some had the number at the back of the block above the bell housing joint. Would help a lot to have the number as they came in different compression ratios (which may also be stamped with the engine number). Steve
  7. I would suspect the tyres to be worn unevenly and you have even mentioned them being worn on the edge. Have them put up on a balance machine and check if the tyre is running true. Just balancing it will not fix the problem if it has flat spots or tread deformation. Can you borrow some wheels to try out? Where do you live as someone may have a set laying down the side of their garage...ah that would be me then. Steve
  8. If you want to block of the hole properly use part EAC1383L. Steve
  9. Get yours recored. That way you are only paying for some new fins not the whole carcass. It will be away a few days so not the best if it is your daily driver. Steve
  10. There are a selection of coil pack mounting positions shown in various threads. I doubt any of those would be an issue when fitting in the 90. I've recently mounted mine on a serpentine 3.9 which again needed to be a different position to those already documented. Steve
  11. Is basically the same as having a head skimmed. The top of the block is skimmed to remove any wear/corrosion and to make sure it is not warped. Steve
  12. It is just a list of inspection fees. Took me by surprise as I have not heard of a trailer test before. Steve ETA Found the inspection manual here.....http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/crt/repository/IVA%20inspection%20manual%20for%20O1-4%20Trailers%20V3%20.pdf#xml=http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/cgi-bin/texis.exe/webinator/search/xml.txt?query=trailer&pr=crt&prox=page&rorder=500&rprox=500&rdfreq=500&rwfreq=500&rlead=500&sufs=2&order=r&cq=&id=499e46ee19 In the foreword it talks of the new regulations for 'trailers coming into service' coming into force 29th Oct 2012 so you have a while to build it always assuming there isn't already some other reg you need to comply with. If it doesn't start till 2012 why put it in the 2009 price list.
  13. What are the wire colours at the connector? Sounds like it may be a headlight dim/dip module as they dissipate a bit of heat. If a Disco has dim/dip (never had one so don't know) then try putting the side lights on (which should then put the headlights on dim) then unplug the module and see if they go out. Steve
  14. I received today the VOSA newsletter which includes the pricing for IVA tests. In it are the prices for trailer IVA tests. From this I have to assume if you build your own trailer it will require an IVA certificate. £ 70 under 3.5 tonne £145 over. Steve
  15. It would seem the problem is with my laptop. You get to the stage where you switch off MS, remove the jumper and switch MS back on again (step 6). It would seem that some PCs/laptops have a small voltage on the COM port which prevents MS doing the reset after boot jump so it hangs. Fix is to disconnect the data cable before switching MS back on then reconnect and continue. Steve
  16. Someone else on here has also extended the transmission breathers and brought them all together in a manifold and taken one breather from there up to the top of the snorkel. Steve
  17. Did you take the flywheel off when you did the clutch? Probably not as there would be no need. It may be that your crankshaft thrust bearings are worn and the back of the flywheel is kissing the block when the clutch is pressed. Steve
  18. I would start by pulling and refitting any fuses that relate to those functions as it may be a poor connection there. Next I would be looking for a bad connection or even a broken track in the back of the dash. The back of the dash has a flexible printed circuit which can suffer from cracks due to vibration. Check also any soldered connections to the flexi as you can also get a dry joint. Steve
  19. Don't forget you will need a decent fuel filter between pump and engine. Steve
  20. What's it made of? May just be a simple job to solder it back in. Steve
  21. When set the hydraulic lifter will be slightly compressed. As said the easiest is to shim under the rocker towers. you measure the preload with a piece of bent wire. You fashion it to the correct thickness for the preload figure and use like a feeler between the top of the lifter inner section and the underside of the circlip. Great way to while away an afternoon. Steve
  22. I believe the RV8 runs at about 35psi (2.5bar) Steve
  23. MSExtra forums have come up with a fix so I now have Extra loaded. Have to start tuning all over again now. Main thing will be the closed loop idle which hopefully will solve the problem of stalling when the fans kick in while sitting in drive. Steve
  24. It's there so that if you mash the pedal to metal you don't break the cable. If it is weaker than the throttle return spring then as you rightly say it's a bloody stupid design. Steve
  25. Perhaps one or more of the outriggers have failed leaving the rear cross member doing all the work. Steve
