  1. Thanks for the concise symptom timeline. Helps a lot. It is quite a slow leak then. But I would have thought you would still see some evidence. What is the climate like where you are, as I wonder if such a small amount of fluid would evaporate if it is hot there ? Or washed away with heavy warm rain ? It looks like it is a result of something you or a mechanic has done, and as you had a leak at one of the pipe unions, I would look closely there. Possibly the metal feed pipe has fractured at the flare which you will not see unless it is disconnected ? The fluid leak could be in the form of a fine spray, directed away from the vehicle or onto the exhaust, which would cause it to simply vanish ?. A frustrating one for sure !
  2. Mods, please ignore this poor deluded fellow. Actually, that is a VERY good idea !
  3. I still have it. I have had that longer than the M57. Its a long story and you will wish you hadn't asked !
  4. If there are no visible leaks, and you keep refilling, I cant understand where it might be going.
  5. I will go to £60. Delivered mind. I agree regarding ebay. Lots of eejits and chancers, and some with dishonest motives. Good exposure though and you might be lucky. I tend to run my vehicles to destruction as I hate the process of selling, but the few I have advertised via Autotrader have all sold, but I don't think it is the answer for the CSK. I dont know anyone who has had first hand experience with Matthewsons. But it is tempting. As with all auctions, it all depends on who is there on the day. I have my old Rover car that I know I am never going to have time for, so it has to go, but like you, I don't know the answer.
  6. Tells me that all the time. But they are just being nice !
  7. That's what the kit is for !! Did you see what I did then ? Might be right though. Dont want to cause in international incident, and I don't imagine the seller will want to refund.
  8. Its for a BMW M57, but only the early ones. Later ones have a slightly bigger bellhousing.
  9. She wants her stable finished I expect. I have too many "little asides" on at the moment. Seriously though, she doesn't have an agenda in that respect. No price tag on it, and we are both the same in that respect.
  10. This morning, on her way out, SWMBO said that there is something for me on the freezer downstairs. "Whats that" I asked. "An early birthday present" she replied, and closed the door behind her. I finished my tea, then went downstairs, expecting to find a pack of Raspberry doughnuts or something, but no ! Sitting on the freezer was a largish flat box with banding on it. Anyways, I unwrapped it to find this .......... Which is great, if somewhat expensive. Only problem is, I don't have the heart to tell her it doesn't fit my engine
  11. Firstly, I do not think you will get any better than TRW or AP cylinders. To be clear, the fluid disappears from the master cyl, and you top it up. Empties again, and you top it up again, and repeat, and repeat ? No signs of leakage underneath or down the clutch pedal ?
  12. They did on this episode. Was a 1980s Fiat. I think the only original bit left was the roof. I am not even sure about that !
  13. Talking Pictures. Fantastic. No ridiculous Superhero type stuff or Jason Statham silliness. I love "Footage detectives"
  14. Wheel spacers or large offset Carlos Fandangos can make this worse too, also premature wear. I think Fridge is on the right track, but you might want to check the brakes for pad binding too.
  15. I saw half of a new episode of Car SOS tonight. Tim Shaw was driving a new Defender on his contrived parts acquisition jaunts. Same tedious formula. Interesting that the workshop was using Hobbyweld gas, but not surprising.
  16. I really, REALLY like those two "veteran" conversions. I have been hankering after a really old car for a long time. Something like a Morris Eight or Austin Ten. This sort of thing could really fit the bill. Getting the springing right on the leafer would be interesting. Just remove one leaf at a time until you get the desired effect. Even that Kahn thing would better if roof was off.
  17. A lot less IMO. I class myself as a "discerning" customer, but what they mean, is stinking rich. I would hope the build quality and attention to detail is better than the last production examples.
  18. It looks a great design and cutting aid. Unfortunately though, it doesn't actually put the real thing together, so if your ability and workmanship is similar to a bull wearing boxing gloves, the finished thing will still look somewhat .......... unprofessional ?
  19. I have a small Sealey pressure washer that was made in 1999. Its a heavy thing though, and still works absolutely fine. I like it because it produces really good pressure and volume, and does not fall over when the hoses or power lead are pulled, unlike the DIY type things available now. It has been left outside in the sun and frost several times. The plastic casing had fallen apart, due to age and UV light I guess. Just before Christmas last year I phoned them, as the model no longer appears on their online spares site, expecting to be laughed at, but no ! New case, new wheels, and a couple of other little bits were no problem. Well impressed !
  20. Yes Gaydon your best bet by far. I have got details for old vehicles over the years, but not sure if they will have records that new. They will charge though. Used to be £25.
  21. Still cannot find the manual. I dont think mine has anything as sophisticated as that, but I have no idea. I want to bypass the "fixed" wire feed, and fit a rotary knob rheostat, or is it a potentiometer ? I have found the highest output tapping and bypassed the board, so now the wire feed is on full tilt on all power settings. I need to choose a control for it. At the moment I am trying to work out how the welding current works. There are some bridging links on the rotary switch but the faulty switch makes it difficult to make sense of it.
  22. Its a Mastermig 120 from 1984.
  23. I have not had much joy with Shiply either. Quotes I do get are expensive, but if you dont respond the price comes down with further messages.
  24. I have got the manual somewhere. I dont know if it has a schematic diagram in it, but it is in a safe place. So safe that I can't find it ! What chance would I have of working out any cunning twists, if an electronics genius such as yourself did not spot it !
  25. That is exactly the sort of solution I had in mind ! Most of the things I have here should have one or other of those stickers !
