  1. Well....due to Transfer box issues of the crutchy crutchy, grindy grindy nature, I didn't make it to Slindon But today I collected the new windscreen and fired it up for the first time after fitting the fuel pressure regulator. Obviously it's hard to tell if it's cured/fixed, so roll on Slindon next month hopefully! Steve
  2. A nice starter for someone! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Landrover-tomcat-off-roader-/262324386710?hash=item3d13c07b96:g:cM0AAOSwe7BWyxka
  3. Shiney Shiney, And it did arrive the next day........at 8am! Head over to here for the rebuild: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=76471 Steve
  4. I was going to say: Are you going to paint the floor and walls, but it would be a shame to hide that lovely old stone wall! Steve
  5. Yes I think I remember there's two sizes, one takes an M12 bolt and one takes an M14 bolt. Something like that anyway, could you not drill out the hole on your panhard rod bracket? Steve
  6. Nice! Looking forward to it taking shape! Steve
  7. Cool! Well I would unplug the things you don't need or that you're not using for the defender and use the Disco wiring loom. If it comes to it you could just bung all the surplus loom in a bag behind the dash somewhere, but thinning it out would be the better, neater route. I haven't done this personally, but it sound feasible! I look forward to the build thread! Is it auto or manual and what year 10p/15p. Steve
  8. Well if you had the Discovery wiring harness, then I guess you could retro fit that into your Defender. If it's still in a runnable state in the Discovery then you can thin the harness out and make sure it still runs. I don't know what the main things the ECU needs to see in order for the engine the run. Steve
  9. Well thank you all for your help. Synchro are reasonably priced and seem to have good service, as you've all stated, but they want over £100 to deliver and collect, which I thought was a bit much. So today I have ordered a transfer box from David Beaumont as they charged £510 for the box and only charge £20 for delivery. With regards collecting the old box they have vans in the area and will give me a call when there in the area to arrange collection at no extra cost. Also there's no surcharge to pay. All being well it will arrive tomorrow ready to fit at the weekend! I'll let you know how I get on. Steve
  10. Thanks so far! Synchro seem to be quite expensive along with Ashcrofts... I'm really looking for hard evidence! But AW Trans do seem competively priced! Steve
  11. Hi, As some of you may now, I'm in the market for a new Transfer box. I've been looking at Ashcrofts, but they seem rather expensive, so I was wondering if anyone has had experience with David Beaumont gearboxes. Their website suggests that they are a long established company and know what they are doing/talking about. I've also seem Bristol Transmissions - any one used them? And has anyone had experience with any other companies that provided good service when it comes to transfer boxes! Thanks Steve
  12. And I think some of the Warn winches (and maybe other) have the brake inside the drum and so you can't run synthetic rope as it'll melt. Anyway, what they said, TDS all the way! Steve
  13. Yes! Slindon again next Sunday.......Are you game?! Steve
  14. Today I fitted the new regulator. Remove old unit, I may take a hacksaw to it to find out why it wasn't working! New rail adapter. New bracket made, thought I'd paint it silver to match everything! And it all fitted! Even added a small p clip to hold the vac line in place! Now just need to start it up and check for leaks! Steve
  15. Hi, I had this alternator in stock and thought I'd have a go at seeing if it's possible to fit it to my V8 Racer that you may have seen else where. The big stud at the top is labelled B+ and a COM is labelled just above the Renault logo which either points to the small terminal or the plastic socket for a plug (which has one pin in). Now the V8 is a V belt variety so it may struggle as it's a 110 amp, but at the moment I'm having difficulting determining what terminals to wire up to where. I know there are electrical guru's on here! Once I know how to wire it up then I may have more enthusiasm to fit it! Thanks in advance! Steve
  16. Well it was cheaper than a genuine replacement. It's adjustable and potentially rebuildable in the future if need be! It seemed a better buy! You can flame me at the pub on Thursday! Steve
  17. I hope so Bowie and Dave, I really do hope so! Yes, as the previous owner thought it was the fuel pump, I replaced them with a single high flow webber fuel pump. Subsequently I have removed the second fuel pump and re-plumbed with fuel hose and less joins! Haha, and just as I'm righting this the door bell rings.......It's arrived! It's a bit wet today so I'll get it fitted in the coming week once it's back in the garage! Steve
  18. Using my new trailer licence, I towed The Racer with my trailer using my 90! A little slow at times, but did the job. I think I will swap the diffs back to the 4.1's! So it was fine all morning until 11:30 when it coughed and spluttered and stopped.....I could instantly see from the fuel pressure gauge I had fitted that I had lost fuel pressure. Putting the ignition back on I could feel the fuel pump relay click on and the fuel pump come on, but it was not building up pressure. I left it for 10-15 mins and tried again and the you could hear and see the fuel pressure build up and so I was able to start the engine. This happened a few more times in the afternoon, but I had fun with no other problems. So I think the mechanical fuel pressure regulator is not seating correctly after relieving and so it just pumps the fuel straight back into the tank again. I still don't understand how if you leave it for a while it resits itself! But this is one of the things I haven't checked or looked at. I could get hold of a used unit, but I will constantly have doubts whether it's functioning correctly or will last. It seems new units are hard to come by, Paddocks are selling a genuine unit for £130. I know you can buy aftermarket adjustable regulators for less, but you have to make up some sort of adapter to join it to the fuel rail which is not worth the hassle. A bit more searching led my to the RPi Engineering or V8 Wizard website where they sell an adjustable fuel pressure regulator with adapter....for less than a genuine item. It's also meant to be better over the standard unit. It should be coming this week, so it'll get fitted and do a few other bits before another testing session to make sure it's super reliable before entering a comp safari! Steve
  19. I'm famous! It's me in my old Blue 200TDi! It's a great little site, with lots of tight twisty technical sections. I'm still undecided whether I'll be there yet! Steve
  20. Nice, but I don't like the sound of a quick spoil turbo, that'll just SPOIL it all!
  21. You do realise that this was 8 years ago!! And which picture are you refering too? Give us a bit more info and I'm sure someone can help, maybe even me as I have a TD5! Steve
  22. Ooow look a challenge truck with one of those super duper challenge roll cages on! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/land-rover-defender-90-v8-/322015101325?hash=item4af998818d:g:wuAAAOSwWTRWygNp Oh dear, I hope the buyer knows about the cage not being very roll cagey and more tree protector!
  23. The TD5 has a bonnet stay of the tube or rod type, but it is tidied or clipped in on top of the radiator, so it should be too difficult to fabricate a bracket and order the two little plastic clips. The rams are sold by Megasquirt v8! Steve
