  1. Slomofo, Where are you? If your not too far away that could be ideal. I had Monroe's on my 90 and thought they were great, but then again TF weren't around then!
  2. Hi all, The 110 failed its MOT on worn rear shock absorber bushes so I guess it's time to take the old shocks off. While they are off I am planning to replace the shocks - but what with. Current favorites are the Terrafirma standard ones or Monroe Adventure. The truck is a 110 double cab, fitted with HD rear springs, Mainly used for overlanding type adventures, not so much into the extreme off road style adventres! Cheers Ben
  3. I am sure somebody will be along any minute to tell you to use the search function on the forum, however Its is a massively common problem on Td5 Discovery's and is commonly called the three amigo's. The fault relates to a huge number of issises, from a misplaced ABS sensor to a worn bearing. Diagnosis is very difficult. Ben
  4. I have been doing my TD5 110 over the last few weekends, it hasn't been tooo bad. I have been taking the item off (use pleanty of Plusgas prior to trying to remove the part) Using a hole cutter to reomve the centre sleeve and as much of the rubber as possible, Using a hacksaw to cut through the outer sheath, normally in one place, but sometimes 2. Using a hammer and chisel to pursude the outher sheath out Cleaning the hole up nad pressing in the new bush with a trolly jack and the front bumber of the defender. The Panhard rod took the most time, the front radius arms were OK, the backs event easier. I would plan to replace the 6 bolts for the rear radius arms though (M10 35mm) Planning to do the A frame Ball Joint arms this saturday. If I had worked solidly on the truck I could just have done it in a weekend. If I had a press, I could have done it in a short day! HTH Ben
  5. It has been in most of the LR comics, I guess it depends if you flick through the carp to find the articles!!
  6. I fear this may be next to no use, But I remember being on parts suppliers website a few days ago and seeing rool cages fixtures. Essentially they were large c clamp. but with the ability to bolt this directly to them. I will have a look through my history and see if I can find them, but they are out there if it helps!
  7. Mine was still under a warrenty so had it done at the garage. They didn't belive it was the head gaskets so repleaced: Thermostat Rad Water Pump Then, finally, took the head off. They replaced the plastic dowels with steel ones, and also I asked them to replace the injector wiring loom while they were there. So, Loom and dowels shold be the only changes for yours. I have the invoice for £1300 if you want to have a look through
  8. Hi Mark, I had the same with my 2002 TD5. It would show normal temp, but everynow and then would vent coolant through the expansion tank cap. My turned out to be the head gasket failing due to the plastic dowels slipping. I would advise getting it done sooner rather than later as I left mine and eventually needed the head skimmed when I did get it done.
  9. Looks great, glad it all worked out. Now onto the Series 1??
  10. Do you have google sketchup? I have a 3d scale drawing that I made when working out the layout for the back of mine if that would help?
  11. Thanks Gents, I'll bear the offers in mind and bid accordingly - Unless Nic has a price in Mind?
  12. Hi Nic, Would there be any discount on combined shipping? Interested in the bike rack and the gearbox cradle, but don't go to Kent too often! Cheers Ben
  13. Mandy and Mike who run Alpine Rovers are one of the LR Scene's nice guys. We went to the Alps with them a few years ago. Because our group had someone who was a little inexperianced, they toned down the tour for them, and offered everyone else the oportunity to do the more challenging stuff the day after the tour had offically finished. Being in no rush to go home we wnet along, and at the end of the day had a turbo failure. Mandy and Mike stayed with us until the tow truck arrived, followed us to the garage and even offered to help us fit a new turbo if they had one. The garage didn't have the stock, so the took a few of the more expensive bits from our truck home for us (Oz Tent etc) and made sure we got to the hotel provided by our recovery company. Truely excellent customer service. If you want to chat to them directly, Mandy use's the username Hillbilly Raider on the forums, she is most active on www.Landroveraddicts.com Enjoy your trip!
  14. I am pretty sure the GKN will not fit with a Discovery transferbox something to do with the different input splines. Besides, as Luke said, it would be massively overgeared. I have a transferbox waiting to go into my 110, aving had one in a previous 90. Fairly easy job really. From Memory: Remove rear prop remove linkage to Hi/Lo leaver remove speedo cable undo 6 bolts slide back and remove. You may need a bit of help fo the last bit!
  15. Replaced mine after dtripping it myself while changing the oil. Moral of that story is don't change the oil on a hangover! I replaced my sump - cost £45 off ebay and fitted it with little drama.
  16. This is a little easier then! You'll be relived to know its nothing to do with your brakes or ABS. The ecu is earthed to a small post in the bottom of the underseat drivers bin (Where the ECU sits). In LR's infinate wisdom, they paint all the panals before fitting them, and then hope that somehow the earth posts are able to connect to the chassis. Yours isnt. I had this last year, and fixed it with an extra earth wire from the post, through the hole where the wires leave directly to the chassis. Problem solved for about 20p! Good luck.
  17. Hard to say, I knew which one of mine was faulty as it was me that broke it when changing the swivel seals. Nanocom was able to work it out as well after doing a diagnostics run on the abs sensors.
  18. I have just had this with the Front ABS Sensors. The looked ok, but the wiring into the sensor itself was broken, causing an intermittant fault. I replaed the sensor and all had been well since. Nanocom will allow you to test the sensors and the sort of thing woulf noramlly show up as a logged fault, something like sensor out of range.
  19. Not had experiance of that specific light, but have a Labcraft Orion in the back of the truck and am very happy with it. Most of their stuff is waterproof to a certain extent and it tends to be very good. Hope that helps....!?
  20. Can't help with the part numbers for either part, but there are plenty of stainless steel kits on ebay. Not commenting on the quality, just the availability.
  21. Google Nanocom locator and you will find a list of people who have a Nanocom and are willing to help out, there may be someone local to you. If not, the new one is out - about £300 IIRC
  22. On the Nanocom you have an option to powerbleed so I would guess it needs it.
  23. Assuming I can get my ABS sensor swapped out on Saturday I should be there on Sunday. A few friends are marshalling the offroad course so may give that a go.
  24. I am fairly certain that the snorkel shouldn't be able to stall the engine unless you go to real extremes like sealing your airbox. As for the smoke, what did it smell like? My guess would be exhaut gasses. If the joint under the seat isn't sealed correctly, when the truck is stationary those gasses would come up through the floor. Its something you wouldn't notice unless you were stood still.
