I Hasten to add the above is initial baby steps, will need some more trimming to allow flywheel to fit, just holding back a bit until I have section cut off gearbox side to see how things go/mate up

Need to rig up a slitting saw on mill to cut next section for gearbox side

Also the below has possibilities for joining the two Flanges together

One alloy wheel rim

so there is possibilities with this, just need to cut things down and see how its goint to work to make a complete adaptor

So got my Bridgeport running this morning, still need to suss a few things out, but I need it for a wee bit of Heath Robinson fun

So one drill attachment in the lathe with a disc grinder nut on it to turn down disc locating section

why?

because i needed to fit a circular saw blade onto it

insert into chuck on mill and bolt casting to cut onto bed

Start cutting, this is not where final cut will be, just seeing if it will work and no damage sustained by myself ...lol

Appears to be OK will just need to go slow and steady

could have done it on my other mill but the Bridgeport has a way bigger bed and range of compound slide movement so i should be able to set it up to do all in one position, could not do that in my other mill without repositioning

that's one way of doing it i use a slitting saw and arbor now and again as i mostly need a thinner kerf cut
did you do it in one go or leave a few holding bits to stop it flapping about and trapping th blade

When using a slitting saw on something likely to vibrate and be a pain I used to use a couple of techniques. If it was something like slitting the side of a tube, I used to shove a blue tack like material we use for vacuum leak checking inside to stop it moving about. For things that could be clamped, I’d use a slip gauge in the gap the blade is creating and clamp that up to take out the vibration. The latter also means if you do it in a few places you can keep the workpiece solid.

Can you make up a jig (even timber) to hold the engine and gearbox in the right locations then you can tweak and align things before tacking them all in place.
