chattering clutch plate

Recommended Posts

Do you mean a chatter while driving along, or on taking up drive?

If the latter I'd suggest you may have broken springs in the clutch plate.

Alternatively as with my own experience of a heavy judder when letting the clutch up from stand still. This was due to a glazed flywheel surface, which required refacing at my local gearbox specialist to sort out, plus new clutch pressure and friction plates.

Have fitted many Valeo clutches,  would certainly recommend them.

If it's chattering with the clutch released its more likely the release bearing.   Chattering can also come from the input shaft bearing so check for play on that when you've whipped everything off.

it chatters normaly when you depress the clutch to change in to second .the people who rebuilt my gearbox said the clutch was a valio clutch plate and was much better than the one they were going to fit so they didn't replace it .400 miles later it started chattering and its now 5 years later and its time to get it sorted .

Valeo one went in mine a year ago, even looking at the difference between the one that came off and the valeo one going on, you could see quality was in the valeo one. I’d do the clutch bearing too as it’ll probably be ready to start jangling when you’re sitting in neutral with engine running. 😊👍
