Gazzar
Does anyone have a genuine axle brake line retaining clip to hand? How long is it? I'm concerned that the standard length may be too short for the reinforced lightweight axle. And how are these fitted?
steve b
I just had a look on Britcar to see which one it is and gen. only - £8.15+ vat !! , I'm sure they are a standard SS binder so should be available in longer lengths if required an probably cheaper too cheers Steve b
Gazzar
Is that what they are called? Knowledge is power. But minimum orders are a killer. Thanks.
western
on Brit-car page it shows 3cm x 3cm x 39cm https://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/78298/0/brake_pipe_gt_rear_axle_jubilee_clip
Gazzar
That would work. The question is now: I can get 10 stainless steel cable ties for the price of one "proper" tie. This isn't a concourse rebuild, so I'll just buy the 10 cable ties, I think. Thanks everyone!
oneandtwo
Britpart or similar used to supply them for pence - I had loads of them and I wouldn’tve paid genuine prices for one! They do fit around the reinforced axle BTW
Gazzar
I bought a chunk of stainless cable ties. I'll try them and see.
Gazzar
Not impressed with my cable ties. They're okay, but didn't tighten fully. I might try a different type. The type I tried were smooth and they sold back slightly when tightened. Plus the excess sticks out and looks untidy. I think I'll run this excess of and for it back into the buckle. For the outer pipe attachment I slipped some heat shrink tube on first, and used this to hide the trimmed excess.
Arjan
Looks nice. We use VHD cable ties...
Gazzar
Plastic? I was trying to keep it somewhat original, seemed somewhat appropriate. But I do debate whether I should bother, to be honest.
Arjan
Yes - plastic.... Originality is to me not really something that is taken into account when it comes to Land Rovers I'm afraid...
Gazzar
I know! This is a toy. And I do prefer original, mostly. RRC LSDs, HD shafts, disks, wolf rims, 110 2.5 petrol and CVs not withstanding.
Arjan
Obviously you try to stay as close as possible to the original..... Like me 😁 Parabolics, IH Scout powersteering, 200 Tdi, Stage IV Front, roll cage, LED's, customs build electrics... etc....
Gazzar
I want it to look reasonably original, but be really capable and very reliable. And " go anywhere " to include city centre. So petrol, fuel injected, and maybe even with catalytic converter! Which reminds me, I must order the updates for the engine.
MagicMatt
Hi Gazzar i bought the one in the parts catalogue part number 11820L but I haven’t the foggiest idea how it’s supposed to fit. Any clues as it’s a bit baggy at the mo
secondjeremy
The idea is that you thread the band through the split pin and then turn it to tighten the thing up. The other end should be cmpressed between the band and the axle. Works quite well!
Gazzar
I bought the cheapo version, it's okay. Not convinced yet.
MagicMatt
I thought that was how it might work, a bit like a tin of sardines
Blanco
Re the sardine key version (or similar), if you fold the static side tail underneath, ie next to the axle then it is tidier and self clamping when the tension is wound on.
MagicMatt
did that as you suggested and looks and feels peachy
