Hybrid_From_Hell
Anyone any experience of these : http://www.ukwelder.com/shop/helmets/optrel_satellite.php vs the 'Moglite Specials' http://www.ukwelder.com/shop/helmets/monkey_masks.php I knew a pro welder who used a optrel, but he's moved aroad for 3 years work, Having just had to do a days welding, my ESAB is going to be replaced, either a speedglass 9002x or v or maybe the one above ? Experienced replies please ? on any of the above or other top range AD Helmets ? Nige
SOA 93
Ok not an experienced view. The important bit on that helmet looks identical to an ESAB who just happen to be Swiss also. Maybe the same optics with a different sheild. All the same features aswell. I've just bought a new 9-13 version of the ESAB, very pleased. Andy Edited: The Guy I bought mine from was doing the ESAB 5-13 inc VAT and delivery for £215 IIRC.
simonr
Optrel is the same as ESAB 5-13 (which is what I got) You'd be welcome to come try it if you want. I think you should buy one of the Monkey Masks - cos you'd look funny Si
FridgeFreezer
Nige, I'll bring my 9002X up tonight for you to play with if you like?
Jon White
Nige, Bear in mind that the speedglas ones go down to shade 3 when untriggered. Some of the others only go down to 4 or 5, so do not go as clear. Makes seeing what you're doing more difficult! Jon
ebo
Anyone any experience of these : [url=http://www.ukwelder.com/shop/helmets/optrel_satellite.php]http://www.ukwelder.com/shop/helmets/optrel_satellite.php[/url i have been using an optel satellite at work for the last 3 years, its a nice helmet for bench welding but i found it a little bulky for using under a car.i bought a speedglas(i think its a 9000v)for home use about 7 years ago, good alround helmet and battery powered(so no problems with the solar panel packing up through under use). also the casing on the optel is very rigid were as the speedglas is flexible hope this helps ian
bishbosh
Not for the pro's amongst us I am sure, but as I am just about to start with this welding malarky, I have just bought one of these: from HERE. seemed like a bargain and a grown up said it should be Ok for my purposes...... northernchris
It,s got to be Esab or Speed glass but the latter is for hob-nob eating girls

dollythelw
you only like ESAB because its Swedish and you have an IKEA workbench and ABBA on loop, so there Speedglas is faster because it has "speed" in the name and definately even fasterer because they are black. move with the times - bin that horse and treadmill and get a traction engine like wot us darn sarf 'ave
