marsie
I recently got the renewal through for the insurance on my 90 and noticed that i was insured for £6000.This was apparently the current market value for a standard car when i first insured it(4 years ago). However my car has been progressivly modified in the time i have owned it so i asked to have the agreed value upped to cover the cost of all the bits if it got nicked so i guessed that to build another car to the same spec as mine would cost me around £15k .So i have a couple of questions- 1-if i need to get a written valuation who is the best person to see? 2-do you think i am about right with my valuation?details below p-reg 90 300 tdi truck cab 90000 miles 1 previous owner +2"lift with front/rear dislocators modded shock mounts, extra travel OME shocks front winch/bumper-Warn 8274,plasma12,albrights,d44 stainless fairlead,6hp xp motor rear winch/winch crossmember-warn 8274,dyneema bowrope, allbrights, alloy fairlead,5.6hp bowmotor Front and rear ARB difflocks with ashcrofts cvs/shafts/drive flanges(should have by next week ) tomcat full external rollcage lots of lights ARB compressor gwyn lewis ground anchor/stump hook waffle boards mach 5 beadlocks with 36/12.5/15 simex extreme trekker2 tyres(5) 2x optima yellows bucket seats Garmin gps linked to in car laptop with memory map software Now before anyone says its overpriced,i dont want to sell it i just want to make sure its insured enough should any thieving scumbags have it away. The reason i ask is-many years ago i had a fully spec'd up prodrive impreza that got nicked and the insurance would only pay the market value for a standard car which was about £5k less.Hopefully it will never happen again but i would rather be covered than not So any ideas Paul
LR90
Itemised list of mods, supported with pics and where poss with invoices, is a good way to establish an agreed value.
white90
photos of the gear added and the invoices the L/R underneath will still only be worth the 6k Flux were ok about agreed values as long as you pay. I have a huge folder of invoices and receipts for everything should the worse happen. When I was in the RS owners club the treasurer used to do proper valuations and insurance companies accepted his conclusion based on market values and equip/condition. he was a policeman though which may have helped

marsie
ps where did the pipe work between the intercooler and turbo come from and do you have any more spare got it from the indoor4x4 show at donnington the company was called darton fabrication http://www.dartonfabrications.co.uk/index....y&id_ctg=67 The insurers have asked for 5 photos(front, rear, both sides, interior) and have said to get an independant valuation, but need the photos to get there own valuation. What concerns me is if their valuer isnt clued up on off road gear(and what it costs ) for example looking at photos how can he see £1500+ of uprated halfshafts/diffs.They are listed in the mods but my previous experience of insurance companies is not good Like i said before,i hope i never have to find out,but would rather be prepared than get a letter and a big f*** you!! should the worst happen Paul

marsie
I am going to ask them if they will accept the valuation from a landrover dealer. If they will i will be ok cos i used to work at the local dealers for 6 years if not i thought of doing like Tony said and getting somebody at the LR club to do one?Maybe they will accept one from the AWDC or my local LR club(Buxton and district)? reads90
The problem with all our modified trucks is that they are only worth what somone is willing to pay for them . Never mind how much money you have spent on them and how much you think it is worth. Belive me i speak for serval bits of experiance. If your insurance company ask a dealer what it is worth (and not one you have worked for ) then they will tell them you have ruin a land rover and price it for less than a standard one. you have to be carefull with insurance companys. Don't want to shock you but they are not in it to do you a favour or for charity. You have two 8274 up rated axels and all the extras (too mnay for me to list) you have which the insurance company will see as extras no differant to a boy having a 2 grand stearo. And they will just give you 500 quid for the lot that is not standard on the truck (which is a standard Insurance thing). Unless you do what trev surjest to do. So the upshot of it is if your truck got nicked the insurance company would turn up with a satndard same aged truck and give you 500 quid on top for the extras. Unlessd you have a prior deal with them so they know how much you have spent on it. But doing this will of course put the price of the insurance up. And in most cases of insurance companys they will not want to insure it with all these extras on anyway.Because as they used to say to me , they will not insure you beacuse you may take it off road. Which point i used to say to them it is non of their business as the truck is not insurred off road so what has it got to do with you.But they still would not touch it. Les Henson
I had to get an agreed valuation insurance on a Mercedes 230/4 once, and part of it was to supply an engineers report, which cost me £40. Les.
siearl
I have had to do that with Adrian Flux as art of the agreed value i had to supply an engineers report
Happyoldgit
I had to do this a number of times in the past for various classic vehicles I've restored and owned. Valuations from motor engineers or vehicle marque clubs are the norm.
Daan
Mine is insured for £8k, which on paper is good for '74 Series 3. But the spec is not dissimilar from yours. Peter Best insurance was happy to insure it for that after seeing the pictures, no questions asked. Ultimately, the insured value is reflected in the premium, So I cant see the insurer making to much of a problem about it. Daan
jules
My 1985 challenge 90 had a agree value of £8000 but if I wanted more we needed a inderpendent valuation.
marsie
Spoke to them today and they said they would accept a valuation from any independant specialist or landrover club so it should be ok.The cost has gone up but i think its still reasonable(£199 PER YEAR fully comp)considering that it has only gone up by about £30 and if the worst happenned i would get £15k instead of £6k.The guy on the phone seemed genuinely interested in it and fully understood why i was concerned about "market value".Upto now,a big thumbs up for Sureterm direct Watch this space for the update when they get my photos and valuation,my opinion of them may change then Thanks for the advice everyone Paul
