OilIT
saw this which I thought was quite interesting ! mg4x4 looks like an mg body on a lr chassis doesnt it?
Turbocharger
I actually really like that, although I'd prefer a diesel version. £4k though!

will_warne
I'm not sure about it - the principal is quite nice but some of the details are horrible The simple answer if you can't decide on a sports car or a 4x4 is to have both - it's what I did: (and before anyone starts - I still have a V5 and a lot of bits for a 4x4 so that counts )

Turbocharger
I agree with separating the two functions: If one was left-hand drive I could have a go at driving both at once...
simonwh
A few years ago I met the bloke who made that MG, the first show he took it to he was physically assaulted by an irrate MG enthusiast.
SteveRK
Its a pity that the "professional" conversion didn't quite stretch to a £50 interior valet before offered for sale. Obviously the original MGB chassis would have been utterly rotten as no-one in their right mind would take £6k worth of MGB to scrap just for a conversion chassis surely - hence fibre glass wings etc. Whilst MGBs are a classic British sports car, albeit not to everyone's taste, what we have here is a tad' "White - Sock" Still, one man's medicine etc. Just wish the seller on eBay had taken the trouble to at least valet the interior - it says alot about the owner/vehicle condition? will_warne
Nice S1Ours got binned Thanks - it's getting there. After an engine rebuild its now goes more like it should but I will probably add more bhp later. Next up, though, it will get a suspension refresh, new Nitron NTRs and a quickrack. B) Shame about yours as it looked very tidy. I'm guessing it was in the wet? I don't tend to drive mine if I know it will be very wet - 160bhp + 700kgs + rwd + Yoko AO48's + water = soiled underwear. Turbocharger
I can testify that 135hp + 1060kg + rwd + bald budget tyres = neeeeawm screeeeech <clenched teeth> + no bang + brown stain + same-day bill for Goodyear Eagles I bet the MGB doesn't handle quite like it used to. Now, talk to me about SVAs, C&U and 'wings covering roadwheels'...
Night Train
I can testify that 135hp + 1060kg + rwd + bald budget tyres = neeeeawm screeeeech <clenched teeth> + no bang + brown stain + same-day bill for Goodyear Eagles I bet the MGB doesn't handle quite like it used to. Now, talk to me about SVAs, C&U and 'wings covering roadwheels'... Having restored a couple of MGB's and raced them, I can't imagine the conversion having made a standard MGB's handling any worse! I don't see why an enthusiast would be annoyed, the original body would have been scrap to warrant the conversion and the Sebring kit would only be a pattern part anyway. Besides, it is more of a rebodied RR then a 4x4 MG. I sorta like it but it could have been a little bit lower to give nicer proportions. rusty_wingnut
having restored a 67 roadster, i think your comments on the handling are unfounded. my experience is with the earlier cars which are renowned for being better than the later, more power & better handling. With a good set of modern tyres they are good cars. You run out of grunt before grip. my car has been fitted with orig and spax shocks at the rear and both perform very well. One problem i can see with the hybrid, is rot. not the best at corrosion prevention, so why go fitting it to an off road chassis?
Night Train
The handling comment was a bit tongue in cheek really. I improved the handling of my 1970 BGT by using uprated springs lowerd 2", adjustable dampers, negative camber wishbones and uprated rubber bushes. It ran on wire wheels and a standard engine and had incredible race handling. I do like the idea of the 4x4 MG more then the reality though. will_warne
Have bothAlthough one is Vals Just keep WW away from the spanners/tape measure Tony - nothing wrong with my tape measure. If you want to come and measure the aforementioned tyre you are very welcome to Fair point re spanners - I try not to work on the Lotus if I can avoid it as I have a very good specialist who's close, not expensive and is capable of doing what I want. I feel it would be almost mean to build a car now as it would rob you of your favourate joke
white90
I can Wait Will I'll bet you a £5 your Simex go down the first time you use them if you Inserts are 6 1/2 inches wide if they are wider then again the measuring went wrong some where 8" wide rim bead thickness 23mm so nearly 1" x2 =2"+6 1/2" insert=8-1/2" =success Er no bead thickness 17mm nearer 3/4" so inserts required are 6 3/4 or 7" or you'll not seat the tyre with the insert. Result £300 for new insert delivered or spacers required, I can get you a set of spacers for a reasonable price when your tyres go down if you have 6/12 insert

You asked for a measurement and you got it - what worries me is the apparent variety in bead thicknesses because the one tyre I have got that's off a rim is 21.5mm - 22mm
white90
well that shows 21.5 not 23 mine are 17-20 varying but that is uncompressed so the inserts need to be nigh on 7" or the tyres will go down, mine did
