Why do you need bigger wheels to go with your huge engine? If you are intending on invading a country let us know which one and we may be able to help. 6 pot
Ehm, this is a joke right?no. no joke i want better brakes to avoid killing me or someone else Are you fitting a nuclear reactor or a V8? V8 (yank) Why do you need bigger wheels to go with your huge engine? I know (think) I will need bigger wheels to fit round the bigger brakes If you are intending on invading a country let us know which one and we may be able to help. invading a country????? where the hell did you get this from? I have talked to a north west tuning company who do 365mm ish discs with bigger calipers but i did not like there sales technique (wanted more for used stuff than i could buy it for retail new one bloke said adapters yes no problems the other who had some wheels to sell said they were weak ) Why would i be joking? reads90
You don't say if you have a 110 or 90 Put vented disc on They will make a hell of a difference and with good pads will do the job The axles will limit the amount of power that will go to the wheels It a land rover built in safety factor , put too much power thoUgh to the wheels and the half shafts break And I really think you underestimate the power you are going to get a yank motor once it has gone though the 4 wd system What BHP are you looking at
landy V8
to be honest a 90/110 setup in good cond will be hard to beat.you could put vented on the front help with brake fade and that should do really. i was running a 200+ bhp V8 90 with solid discs all round and ebc ultramax pads and it stopped on a dime. i would be a lot of expense for little gain in my opinion. ToyRoverlander
Put 80series axles under it. They got HUGE brakes, and if you don't think they're good enough slap some grooved/drilled discs and green stuff (or whatever) pads on it. These axles will also handle the increase in power and give you a better turning circle . (311x35 vented front discs, 4pot caliper. 335x18 vented rear discs, single pot sliding caliper). I've got them under my 109' with front pads from a 100series (physically bigger than 80series pads), brakes are awesome!
mike4444244
Agree with above, 110 brakes were designed to stop a 3 ton car with a big trailer on the back you'll be surprised just how fast they stop! Well not as surprised as the boy racer tailgating you in his saxo!

Porny
Hi all I would like to fit bigger brakes to my defender as i am planning a huge engine upgrade. I know i will have to fit bigger wheels. Is there a off the shelf kit or will i have to find the parts separately? Cheers Rob Hi Rob, I do a big 6 pot calliper conversion, with 342mm discs (that are also twice as wide as a standard vented disc) All bolt on, no modications required - although you do need to run 18" or bigger wheels. The kit has been designed with ALCON, so is not some cheap budget calliper set up. Will be a few pictures in next months LRM. Comes with braided lines, fluid etc etc. Ian
Snagger
I saw the guys at Rogers of Bedford fitting a 6-pot calliper kit to a customised Defender the other day. It might be worth calling them and asking about it.

LRG
That'll be a set of my brakes Onto this: Just so happens I've also tuned it, supplied the lights, wheel adaptors... and a few other bits! Ian It was this car in LRM which made me decide to modify mine. In fact Porny supplied the adaptors for me, and I am hoping to return in the summer for an engine tweak I regularly tow a 25ft boat behind my landy and have thought about upgrading the brakes...if only money was limitless (but where would be the fun in that)!!! And before anyone says anything I have now put extended arch's on so it is legal!

Ian That's the one, Ian. I had a good look around it, and while the amount of lime green paint underneath and the size of the wheels are not to my taste, it's a very impressive vehicle. kkk2
Hi I am running a 4.2 tdi diesel in my 110 (340bhp) I am using standard landrover vented disks and calipers on the front and a standard disk rear axle set up as well. I regularly tow a 22 ft trailer for work behind this truck and it stops perfectly, as said earlier the std. setup is really good. I had std non vented disks on the front at the start but experienced serious brake fade if doing a lot of braking now I fitted the vented disks this issue had gone away. Troll Hunter
Apologies for hi-jacking the thread, but while talking about uprated braking performance, is it possible to fit vented discs on a 1991 110 with solid discs? Presumably, new calipers would be required, but what else would need changing, if anything? Mike
Retroanaconda
Just change the discs and calipers I believe. Everything else is the same
