Steve King
If Firefox is giving problems - just reinstall it. It will keep your bookmarks intact.
RangeyRover
The browser wars will never end with Fanbois on all sides. I love firefox for the addons. I hate it for memory hog usage, and crashing More sensible questions: What version are you using? 7 is current. What addons are you using if any? Do try Opera or Chrome, Both good free options. I personally find Opera best on low spec computers.
elbekko
Haven't had firefox crash in ages, and I keep it open at all times, currently with easily 100+ tabs open. It may be using up 1.6GB of memory (which is understandable with that many tabs really), but Chrome's memory usage is at times a lot worse I've found. Also, I can't really live without Tree Style Tab, and Chrome's extension system just doesn't support such an extension sadly.
Landy-Novice
100 tabs? :o whats the spec of your computer? at this very moment, i have 27 tabs open, 15 being youtube playing video's fine which im in pressed with! how do you find out about the memory usage? elbekko
100 tabs? :o whats the spec of your computer? Nothing too fancy, a stock Q6600 (2.4Ghz quad core) and 8GB of RAM. I recently upgraded from 4GB of RAM, because that wasn't enough to comfortably satisfy my computer usage Memory usage you can see in the Processes tab of the Task Manager, or in FF's about:memory. I've found it's gotten a lot more stable since FF4/5 or so, before that it would sometimes crash and especially lock up more often (when it was swapping out memory, I guess). Landy-Novice
no wonder its so good!!!! mines an old pentium D 3.0ghz and 2Gb ram, and it does me fine! but i got a amd 3.2ghz and 8gb ram lined up up soon!! mikey, well that slows down the whole computer! try and find a good manual anti virus program rather than an automatic one which is constantly running in the background, i use threat fire it works for me, if your good with pc's, you shouldn't really need one! discomikey
im not amasing with PC's however this laptop is one of the fastest computers iv ever used. and never had a problem with the computer itself crashing or bieng slow it generally sticks to about 40% RAM. FridgeFreezer
FF working fine for me both on the PC and the laptop.
discomikey
it seems to be ok for now, maybe its related to peak times? although i wouldnt have thought that would make a browser program itself stop responding.
elbekko
Well, there's a difference between crashing and not responding. If it's just not responding, it's probably due to something else eating up resources that FF needs. Could be a virus scanner doing its scheduled scan. discomikey
well it seems to crash, then say not responding, then the window shows a white sort of semi seethroigh page over the top of the browser if that makes sense, it probably doesent. Landy-Novice
it does and that means its not responding, which can be lots of things, rubbish computer, slow browser or internet etc, when it crashed usually mean adobe, does it come up with "well, this is embarrassing FF has crash" or something like thaT? discomikey
well its not the computer, was brand new less than 6 months ago and never ever been slow on me. it does come up with well this is embarrasing ff has crashed, and comes up with "were these tabs what you were using?" too.
