backstop
My '97 Defender 110 CSW seems to "lean" towards the passenger side a bit. Certainly, the rear passenger tyre is a bit closer to the wheel arch than on the driver's side. I've just read (on a site pushing Old Man Emu shocks and springs) that this is normal. Can anyone comment on this please? If I need to do something, any advice as to what to do, how difficult will it be etc?
western
a slight lean to the left is normal, the drivers side springs are slightly longer, so with driver onboard the vehicle rides level when moving [well that's the theory according to LR]
Maverik
My 90 it lopsided all the time just in different directions! - depends on how much fuel you've got it, if you're in it, what you've got in the back in verious places, its not a "huge" difference, but I've kinda learned to live with it. you can get 10mm spacers to sort it out, or you can just ballast it on the oposite side with a bag of spanners
Retroanaconda
Pre-Td5 cars have a lean to the left with handed springs left and right. For Td5 models onwards they did away with it and went for the straight and narrow look.
MrKev
See, in his avatar, even James' has a slight lean to the left. Kev
backstop
Many thanks guys. Your replies saved me the worry that the MoT man might call for new springs or something.
mike080381
Just because the collective genius on here knows, doesn't mean that the MOT man knows too. I tried to have on tell me today that I need exhaust emissions on BOTH LPG and Petrol!
Lorrick
Just make sure he does not fail it on missing handbrake cables Richard
landrover6x6
Hi , just a note to say i test vehicles every day, can only test on the fuel the vehicle drives in on ,
pete3000
drivers side springs are slightly longer than pasenger side, so you get a slight lean, the logic is that the drivers weight levels it out. Of course you never see this as you can only see it when unladen usually. And doesn't take in to account passengers being as heavy. You could fit two passenger side front and two passenger side rear springs, or just eat more pies
mickeyw
A lean at the front MIGHT be a sign of a collapsed swivel bearing. Check for this by jacking up the front axle enough for the tyre to be clear of the ground. Then get an assistant to waggle a shovel up and down under the tyre while you look for any movement between the swivel ball and housing. Buzza
Dont forget on pre TD5 models the fuel tank is on the drivers side as well
