Lopsided Landy?

Recommended Posts

My '97 Defender 110 CSW seems to "lean" towards the passenger side a bit. Certainly, the rear passenger tyre is a bit closer to the wheel arch than on the driver's side. I've just read (on a site pushing Old Man Emu shocks and springs) that this is normal. Can anyone comment on this please? If I need to do something, any advice as to what to do, how difficult will it be etc?

My 90 it lopsided all the time just in different directions! - depends on how much fuel you've got it, if you're in it, what you've got in the back in verious places, its not a "huge" difference, but I've kinda learned to live with it. you can get 10mm spacers to sort it out, or you can just ballast it on the oposite side with a bag of spanners :)

drivers side springs are slightly longer than pasenger side, so you get a slight lean, the logic is that the drivers weight levels it out. Of course you never see this as you can only see it when unladen usually. And doesn't take in to account passengers being as heavy.

You could fit two passenger side front and two passenger side rear springs, or just eat more pies

A lean at the front MIGHT be a sign of a collapsed swivel bearing.

Check for this by jacking up the front axle enough for the tyre to be clear of the ground. Then get an assistant to waggle a shovel up and down under the tyre while you look for any movement between the swivel ball and housing.
