cackshifter
I see Motor and Diesel http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170651925809?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619 are offering bits to allow fitment of a 'Puma' 6 speed Getrag box behind a 300tdi. Has anyone any experience or knowledge of these? They also offer a HD 250mm clutch for the TGV/300tdi. Nigel
Gazzar
How does the 6 compare with the R380? Stronger? Higher top speed? Lower 1st gear?
ejparrott
A friend has a 110 puma, he says he noticed no difference in top gear at all, but first is a lot lower than the old LT or R380
Ex Member
Yes, much lower 1st...
elbekko
So only useful with a 1:1 TC behind it?
cackshifter
M & D quote ratios as: 1st 5.443:1, 2nd 2.839:1, 3rd 1.721:1, 4th 1.223:1, 5th 1:1, 6th 0.742:1. R380 ratios 1st 3.39:1, 2nd 2.13:1, 3rd 1.3:1, 4th 1:1, 5th 0.77:1 Pumas have a 1:2: 1 transfer box, so quickly doing the sums for comparison with a 1.4, overall ratios... (and ignoring whether 1.22 etc) 6 speed 1st 6.53, 2nd 3.4, 3rd 2.4, 4th 1.47, 5th 1.2, 6th 0.89 R380 1st 4.75, 2nd 2.98, 3rd 1.82, 4th 1.4, 5th 1.08 Does look a usefully bigger spread at either end
Ex Member
Your choice of transfer case gear depends on if you have power to push the top gear and will depend on your own engine... The main advantage is the much lower first for off road, low range use. Also note, reverse is a lot lower, 4.935 versus 3.
JimAttrill
I can say that the R380 reverse is a bit high. I often use low-range to reverse out of steep driveways.
Happyoldgit
From my experience of owning more than one Puma and numerous previous models the Puma box offers more relaxed cruising in top.
Landy-Novice
how much! for an extra £100, i brought a whole landy for that!
nicks90
jeeeez - £1000 and you still have to buy the clutch and gearbox for it! If you want a more relaxed top speed cruise and a lower 1st - it would be much cheaper to fit a 1.6 transfer gear and an overdrive.
ini88
Has anyone fitted this yet? I would like to see if you need to push the engine back or forward at all.
