Mean Green
I am taking my Defender off the road for a few months with the intention of giving it a tidy up. I will transfer the insurance to the Disco thus leaving the 90 uninsured. Given the current "popularity" this is probably not the best plan - so before I approach the insurers can anyone give me a rough guide to the cost and are there any specialist insurers that I should talk too? Retroanaconda
I have a laid-up policy with Adrian Flux for my Series III. Costs me about £50 a year.
Mean Green
Thanks Retro - that's the kind of figure I was hoping for. Does the policy specify where is it kept - ie in locked garage etc. The 90 is kept in the garage most of the time but I hope to be able to keep it on the drive if (when) I need to use the garage for the Disco. Retroanaconda
Mine is based on it being in a locked (brick built) garage yes.
Off Road Toad
My 88" is £20 fire and theft with NFU
Boris113
My 90 is about £40 a year fire and theft with the NFU. It's insured as being outside too.
Mean Green
I just spoke to NFU... not interested as I am not an existing customer!! It is great to hear that NFU are doing so well that they can afford to turn customers away - after all I may only be looking for laid up cover for the 90, but I will also be looking for full insurance for the Disco. Team Idris
NFU works in a funny way like a co-op (union I guess). Insurance isn't with them, they are an agent. But it is worth the joining if you have a few things to insure, because they are very good at paying out. And you get a magazine

I spoke with your people (I am already insured through you with another vehicle and have been for many years) but they were not able to give me a competitive price for this or indeed my Discovery that I also insured. Thanks anyway.
dailysleaze
I've had a quote £160 for laid up insurance. Only 50% of the full premium so not as economical as I was expecting. This was from Adrian Flux and Lancaster/Sure Term don't want to cover if the car isn't in a garage (which mine isn't). Any other leads for laid up insurance or what sort of price is a good deal? Cynic-al
I can't remember what I was quoted but when I looked I could only get cover if it was locked up at my home address. I kept it in a lock up at the time so no use to me.
landroversforever
Mines with Adrian flux laid up cover, about the £200 mark if I remember correctly. Gives a bit of peace of mind. Edit to add that my main reason was to keep my NCB alive
