Maverik
Hi folks, I'm being plagued with battery renewals on our mountain rescue team vehicles due to numpties leaving the interior lights on. Rather than just remove the permanently "on" function, which I am tempted to do I was thinking about putting a power off timer into the mix, to shut them all down after say 10min whatever setting they're left on. I'd preferably like to buy an off the shelf black box, but some brief google searching didn't really pick up anything of use to me, has anyone got any suggestions? Cheers Mav
SPendrey
What about switching to LED interior lights? Wouldn't that extend the period/reduce the load on the battery?
Maverik
Hmm, I had wondered about doing that, would at least give the batteries a fighting chance to survive...
ejparrott
Heated screen timer, I think VWP have some 10min ones?

Landowner
I use battery powered led strip lamp for my 90 interior, it lights up all the 90 and has a delay of a minute before switching off so just like an expensive car really Got it in Lidl ages ago for a couple of quid

steve_a
I reckon you want to do something of a mix, if you relay in to create an OR with engine charge then the permanent on can stay on if the engine is on, which isn't a problem and then include a basic RC circuit into that so that it will go off say 10 mins after engine off. If you like I'll get my electronic bloke to draw up the circuit with some values etc for you. The IGN line can be counted as engine on, mostly, and it also allows a reset or override by leaving the keys turned to IGN if needed. simonr
Wouldn't it be simpler just to connect the light to an ignition source? Then, with the keys in the ignition you can have the light on - but no chance of leaving it on! Connect the door switches (assuming you have them) to battery live so the lights come on with a door open. Si
davie
dont know anything about electrics etc but my 2003 td5 90 has exactly what you are after i reckon buried in it somewhere. when i leave a door/doors open the interior lights switch off after 10 or so mins so hopefully somebody more clever than me that knows a td5 can find it. rovernut
I think that is only i n conjunction with the door opening. It will not prevent some numpty switching on and leaving on.
