honitonhobbit
So I'm about to fit a new diff cover on my Salisbury. The old one is a bit tired and a bit rusty; and I was given a brand new one. Is it worth treating the inside of the cover and if so what would be a good treatment to use? miketomcat
I would think it's only worth it if you leave it parked for long periods. The one I've just painted for the ibex is off a d plate the outside was rusty but inside was like new and that's been stood for a year at least. honitonhobbit
It was just a thought... My rear axle suffers from regular water ingress - but benefits from regular oil changes
Maverik
smear some thick greese on it, other than that I wouldn't paint unless you know of some very good oil restant stuff.
Part1cle
Industry standard, or at least the one I work in - large industrial gears, would be not to paint or plate of any kind. The only thing we paint, and that's using a special type of paint, is sand cast surfaces where there is the slight chance of casting sand being eroded out of the cast surface even after treatment. We do not use any plated fittings (bolts, nuts etc.) internally due to the risk of the plating flaking off. The lube is more than good enough to protect the parts. Hope that helps. honitonhobbit
Funny ha ha Charles... It's no the pain meds - it's the fast approaching old age Mind you the pain meds aren't helping the memory at all - or is that age? Anyway who are you and what do you want?
