T Wash - Mordant solution

Recommended Posts

I bought a litre from the cheapest seller on eBay, I did about three washes on a pair of 90 rocksliders and still have probably 600ml left. I would guess 5litres would do a chassis

As I've never bought any from anywhere else nor tried another brand I can't offer any comparisons

What modifications did you go with on your new chassis?

It was surprisingly difficult to find round my way. Eventually found a 5l container in a Crown decorating centre for £10.

I brushed it onto the 90 chassis and used about 2 litres, next time I would use a garden sprayer as Astrol_Al says.

No complaints with the liquid itself however :)

Galv is a sacrificial coating, so surely any additional protection which will prolong it's life is worthwhile.

Sometimes galv is painted for cosmetic reasons - not everyone wants a silvery-grey chassis or bulkhead

T wash or mordant wash was invented in a railway workshop to allow galvanised steel sheet roof panels to be painted. I bought a gallon from my local galvanisers when I got some 101 stuff done which I didn't want to leave bare.

Advise from the horses mouth here - http://www.galvanizing.org.uk/about_galvanizing/painting_and_powdercoating/guidelines_pre_treatment_for_painting
