FridgeFreezer
Self-centering steering dampers on eBlag: Clicky for linkamification Hmmm, good idea or bad idea?
jules
Would they work properly with power steering ???
Astro_Al
Sure - why not, if it has self-centring due to caster angle which overcomes the resistance of the stering system, then this would only add more restoring force I guess (if you need it). jules
they don't look like they would hold up racing but anything that helps a quick steer system can't be bad.

Looking at the pic, what is it about them that makes you think they wouldn't hold up to racing? If you have a real problem with feedback / self centring, why not look at changing the swivel angle a bit? Al.

HoSS
seems to attack the problem from the wrong angle. If you have an unstable system (non-centering steering after lift) then adding a spring may make it centre but could create other dynamic problems. I would say stick with castor correction. will_warne
I've seen these before and I'm sure I saw a discussion about them on a forum. The general opinion of the grownups was that they were just a gimic and did as much as the electric superchargers you see on eblag
Daan
I have seen this being used on a portugees landy. The spanish and portugees seem to like this setup. Problem I saw there was that stones and other carp got trapped in the spring and causing headaches. Interesting that the collar is being held on only by friction on the damperbody. I would say it is not solving the real problem, somehow. Anyway, anyone got one and can tell us more? Daan
GBMUD
When my PAS pump expired the other day and I had to cut the belt off at the roadside and drive home with no power assistance, I am able to confirm that the last thing I would have needed was a spring acting against me too. I can also confirm that despite a 2" lift, the steering is fairly keen on self centering without any extra help. Chris

Competing without powersteering has to be very high on the list of things I never want to do again! Likewise, I've never had self centering issues with a lift.
