  1. The H-L function and the Difflock(transfer box difflock) are separate even though on the same lever. In low DL to high no DL the shift can be one movement (allowing for road speed and de-clutching) and vice versa, keep an eye on the DL light on the dash to confirm unlock or lock Welcome to the forum , and Defender living Steve
  2. Thanks Ralph, I thought the MOD records would be more detailed. The main info on this 109 is it has been resting for 26 years so it will need some tlc even though it has been in the dry mostly by the initial look around. Steve
  3. Ouch... Did you try Agri-hire for the seals first? Steve
  4. Having a template to prove theory is always worth the work , and oh boy, did it work Steve
  5. Thanks - the reg no. and the con. no show nothing on Merlin database, maybe it was on classified duties... Steve
  6. Yep, been there too. So awestruck I completely forgot to take pics. Loved the Southland , so different to the rest of NZ.
  7. ....just a bit of wiring and it will be done then You have made that faster than an on-line order and delivery from a supplier.... Steve
  8. It would appear you intuitively chose a good mix of donor material, reminds me of Burt Munro casting pistons for his Indian in that film. It looks great Stephen Steve
  9. Did you use that wheel as material for this cast? As others have said , it's a very clean cast with no porosity or inclusions. Steve
  10. I like it , looks like a set car off Bladerunner. Nice job Mike Steve
  11. Cool , look forward to the build. .........I have an '86 V8 90 on one of my many back burners waiting to be finished Steve
  12. Modern stuff eh, just won't manage the unexpected use... It looks great btw, I'm sure there will be other ally casting projects along the way now- 3D printers? ppfff Steve
  13. This may be the greatest re-purposing of domestic tools ever, certainly way more adventurous than a dishwasher running diesel to clean stuff Steve
  14. Does it still have the valve in the rear circuit? - down on the OSF chassis near the footwell. Steve
  15. Drum or disc on the back? Clamping the flexi's should give a solid pedal with correct free play at the top, then release one clamp and check pedal , re-clamp and release another and repeat Steve
  16. I'm pretty sure if you have rebuilt it then all will be well, it certainly engages ok from your description. They are fairly simple in function Steve
  17. The other box probably has a stuck diff lock dog if it drives the gear train disengaged. The one you built looks to be ok from your description Steve
  18. With the diff lock disengaged you will need to hold one flange stationary and turn the other to confirm the selector is working and the gear train all turns Steve
  19. @Daan maybe this should be in the Defender forum or International? @miketomcat - I would suggest pre-registration SVA compliance is not the same as a roadside check by DVSA of vehicles on the road? Steve
  20. Good to hear that it's sorted. full throttle opens up the flow in the IP with the DPA pump which all helps with bleeding. Steve
  21. I don't see how parts such as bodywork being swapped make it illegal - surely it's just the disc brake rear axle and engine(s) that might raise questions but even that is unlikely as both are common upgrades and within the standard 90/Defender90 build sheets. Ok , the 4.6 was never an option but the RV8 is. I also see no need to scrap what is left if the '85 is built onto the stamped galv chassis. Steve
  22. once the chassis is stamped it is then for that one vehicle. Building it up as a different truck would make a road side check very traumatic indeed... build it up with the correct reg for the VIN. If it was not stamped it is then a replacement component. Steve
  23. It depends on which type pump - Tdi style with unions on the top is down on the hand lever and the side mounted unions (AC delco) type the lever pulls up to prime Steve
