It came up at the right price and local. Plus we booked a large pitch at Silverstone so would be rude not to use it all. @Daanit was never dead just back burnered till a box came up. @FridgeFreezerjust need to find a trailer to go under it now. The box is 11'6" so this is the bed/chassis length I need but I'm going to extend the rear a little to give a more pleasing shape. Mike -

I might be picking up a fridge box next weekend......let the build begin. Mike -
And they looked better than the ones they fitted at the end. Mike

I had an issue with mine splitting after a few weeks of fitting. Genuine are much better but I gave up and fitted HD drive flanges with a screw on cap. Mike

It's in and working as it should. So I guess it is possible to fit a V8 lt77 to a 200tdi however you do need a diesel bell housing and a special spigot bush. I have no concerns with how far into the spigot bush the shaft is, the amount of spline in the clutch is not ideal but time will tell. Mike -

The isolator you have for the winch are much better than the plastic ones but cheaper than the big durite job. Good progress it's really starting to get there. Mike -

Special spigot bush. Standard TDI spigot bush for reference. In situ. Gearbox is back in so far so good. Just got to fit the props and test. However slight boo boo, a while ago I fitted a spacer to the front prop because I wasn't happy with it. It transpires that fitting it at the diff end wasn't the best idea as on full compression the prop now clips the oil return pipe on the sump. So I'll be switching it to the transfer box end. Mike -
I've just done the seal on mine, I didn't bother taking the flywheel housing of to do the gasket. I just pulled the old seal out cleaned up, got the seal started by hand then gently knocked it home with a ⅜ extension going round and round to keep it even. Mike

It might be worth asking your questions as there are some very knowledgeable people on here and a thread on here may get his attention. Mike

Polyester, vinylester or epoxy do not stick to nylon at all. We use a nylon fabric called peelply to give a clean internal finish to laminated units. It also allows the top surface of resin to be removed once cured leaving a surface ready for more laminating. Mike

Well a quick look this morning was all I needed....... The current gear selection is 4th, 4th, or 4th even reverse is 4th and I think the bearings are now square. So I guess the lay shaft has snapped or stripped and somewhere along the line it's ended up jammed or welded itself in 4th. When it broke I'm not sure if I tried 4th as I was in 5th at the time. One of the (lazy) recovery drivers started the engine (to my disgust) to get power steering. After that John and I couldn't push it until the transfer box was in neutral. Mike -

Not yet, I got it on the floor and the heavens opened so threw it in the workshop in disgust. However I did turn the input shaft once out and it didn't feel good at all. The plus I'm taking is we couldn't roll it until the transfer box was in neutral which suggests the gearbox is the culprit. Hopefully I'll get a chance to have a quick look in the morning. Mike -

Gearbox is out. The V8 box is at my dad's along with the spigot bush blanks. He's going to have a look at machining them tomorrow. Mike -
Mine gave a good puff on start up then cleared, it would run fine but as you came off the throttle it would start to smoke again. When it was head gasket (blown between no3 pot and the middle triangular water way) it would excessively pressurise the header tank. On the occasion it was a cracked head it blew into no2 exhaust port and was much more difficult to find. You can just see it vertically above the valve stem (picture is on its side). Mike

I have also heard this, I believe it was later trucks to combat theft etc but I've never seen it or been able to verify it. Mike

I have two discovery 200tdi engine's one in our 110 and one in my ibex. Both are solid mount body to chassis, my ibex has fractionally more sound deadening. The ibex has discovery engine mounts and 300/td5 gearbox mounts, the 110 has original 200 defender mounts. The ibex is definitely quieter and smoother than the 110 but not much. I'd say there's not a lot in it between my ibex and tsd's with a tgv in. Mike
