  1. To fill and fair and etch-prime and paint, (maybe lacquer as well?) £500 is a fair price, I take it the horse doesn't have insurance
  2. I am very pleased to know I am not the only one! ....After a recentish post of mine (actually on smart phones) I have tried downloading Autodesk 360, which, when I got into, I realised the whole cloud thing was precisely what I didn't need. Then changed to Autodesk Inventor, which is self contained, but I struggle to get a feel for it and up to now I have failed to download and install the materials databases which mean that non of the frame generator side of things works anyway. Still waiting for some response from Autodesk so am even less likely to part with $7000! Have gone back to Autocad 2D. I did download something called sketchup, (eventually... carp website ended up with Sketch something else first,...had to go back twice to sort that!) but I haven't launched it yet till I get a free day cos the free trial is only 8hrs! Anyway I would love to know what software(s) you are doing all this in.
  3. Does the panel think it will handle the torque Proper job that.
  4. I had to look up what a 'welding positioner' was before replying....... I was going to recommend Lidl's little ninety degree magnet thingy's but then the 240v bit made me Wonder if I was missing something;...... and I was. I wonder whether its the sort of thing you get better and cheaper as old 3 phase stuff and get a little (velly cheap) phase converter?
  5. No joy with the defrost either,......... I wondered if it was just the limitations of the Nanocom at first which is why I went back down to the local garage.
  6. Had another crack at it this morning, engine running, changed the relay. Nanocom status doggedly returns to 'inactive' after a split second blink. Something else I noticed though, when Nanocom is plugged in the whole dash seems to shut down,.... is that normal?
  7. My garage man has a professional Delphi system, which seemed to me to be pretty comprehensive. I will swop the relay and try again. Having tested the on/off indicator light separately, (and it works),... I kind of assumed that it would come on when the screen was switched on. As there is no frost at present, it is hard to say from appearances. I suppose I could test for a load on the circuit. Thinking about it again, I remember the air con/heater panel was switched off when we were trying, I now wonder if that affected things, I will try again at lunch and report back. thanks R35
  8. Recently had to get the windscreen changed (insurance job) so got the local garage to order the heated variety, I thought it might be good come the winter to have the benefit. Screen is in and plugged in, fuses were in anyway, bought a second hand switch and relay and so I thought I was all set. I can get into the BCU with the Nanocom (an early one) but don't seem to be switch it to 'on', my local garage put his laptop on it and he can't either, although pushing the switch while watching the screen it changes briefly it won't accept a permanent status change. We can toggle the actual switch led on and off, I can feel the relay working, just a bit puzzled as to what I am missing??..... any ideas much appreciated.
  9. I'm with BVS on this one, also forced to reconsider getting rid of the Elliot mill I bought, I don't have any tooling for it, and I think it is just too dear to start from scratch,.... but when you see here what is possible then it does make me think twice.
  10. Must be getting old!,.... first thought when Discomikey said D4 (struggling with the quote thingy this morning!) was that D4's didn't have any suspension any more than D6's did. Slowly it dawned on me that D4 here possibly meant LR4 . Slightly longwinded that vid, but I have to admit that I get complacent sometimes, just bought an old horsebox the other day and towed it home a short distance not on the main road without worrying about the safety link, a cable in this case; it helps to be reminded what can happen.
  11. Well the price of those plates doesn't seem too bad to me, including as it does the green card insurance. (Which, until UKIP get somewhat more influential, should include the UK!). I have discovered over the years that policemen are not, and seldom claim to be bang up to date on the letter of the law. I think if you check out the quality of the insurance first then it should be fine. Any policeman presented with full documentation (licence, insurance and old V5) is unlikely to want to get into the paperwork headache even if he thinks there may be a technicality. You may get someone on a bad day who wants to 'caution' you, but I think it is unlikely. I personally would certainly go for it. And I am pleased to have the linky, thanks .
  12. Not sure what the truck is,... couldn't be ABS I suppose?
  13. Thats some impressive list of bits that are 'just laying around' are you sure this is still the same cheap and cheerful project from the first post?
  14. Also check the cables, where they sit on the cross beams the plastic chafes off and the cables suffer water ingress, .... 10 to 1 it is seized cables, in which case back off the adjusters for now and get the cables on order.
  15. If you just need a sliding joint what about tractor PTO shaft tubes, they are designed to transmit torque and you can buy the tubes as 1 meter long stock, no need to buy the whole thing, or if you do they come with the UJ's yokes etc. which you might adapt to suit.
  16. Not been down Under for a while but I am much happier with the 235's on my 110, on normal rims the 265's are not going to add anything to road manners, probably the reverse.
  17. Isn't the front a bit light at present? or do you figure the old chassis is that much heavier than the space frame will be?
  18. You will have seen the winch section on www.discovery2.co.uk ???
  19. remember that max width is less for 3.5t vehicles, I seem to think it is 2.3m
  20. I think I can see them inside, through the holes, I presume then that the holes are to 'spot' weld through, will they be enlarged before welding? I find small holes make it hard to get the penetration on the inner layer.
  21. I thought it was simply a choice of airbags with ACE or coils, but someone will be along to clarify...
  22. Great to see this thread back on the move, and love the 'crazy' bits... I am thinking this will also be the only SII we know of with air conditioning or possibly the biggest on board air compressor ever?? It might be just the perspective of that photo, but it looks huge.
  23. Peak trailers do all the bits, also Knott have a good website.
