  1. My D2 reacts quite sharply if the cruise is just switched off.... my guess is that with cruise on the accelerator pedal 'position' is reset to 0 , but if you lift off the pedal then the ECU follows the max rate curve descent, which would be kinder. I have learnt to adjust before switching off.
  2. And there was I thinking he was a Magic Roundabout fan!.... Perhaps Ermintrude put out a contract on Brian
  3. I have a problem with my td5 top rad hose, when the bleed screw sheared off I cut the pipe at that point and put a rigid joiner in. As a fix it has always suffered from the shape of the hose at that point and is difficult to seal 100%. (remnant of bleed screw port plus adjacent branch etc.) I recently put silicon hoses on the turbo and thought I would look for a silicon replacement. I find not much choice, one reputable manufacturer I found at £113 and BP (to be available April) at £40. Dare I risk the Blue Box on this occasion??
  4. Pure fluke but found the relevant copy in a box not 2ft from the desk...... biggest thing for me is looking back at the quality of the publication then, compared to what we are offered now. ...
  5. I bought two pairs, I plan to fit a pair to each side giving some redundancy anyway. They are also lower profile than the Rubbolites so I am hoping they won't damage as easily.
  6. I bought some of these; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251368464017?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D251368464017%26_rdc%3D1 I haven't fitted them yet but they were cheaper than replacment Rubbolite lenses. Mine tend to get damaged before service life becomes an issue.
  7. And after all EP90 is just what the new deck needed as a weather proof coating!
  8. Strange I never thought too much about my diffs until this thread, my 110 was fitted with Detroit lockers when I bought it but I have no idea about the rest of the spec. (I assume standard). I did a search and found Nige's very clear video explanation of all the ins and outs of diff architecture on u tube. I don't do competitions but I do do quite a bit of off-road, nearly always towing something substantial and the Detroits have been impressive. Steering not great when all locked up but you expect that. Nearly always its clay in the tyres that brings me to a halt. I think 'shock' loading in competition must account for most of these breakages, for those of us that aren't looking for the limits, the simplest of mods will suffice.
  9. I will when/if I can find one at the right price,..... in the meantime I just came across that. As DD has proved, (and we can all see on fleebay) the cars and engines are readily available, (for most of us) getting the project off the ground at a sensible price would seem to hinge on sourcing that increasingly rare pump........... Or we wait to see how this thread pans out (which could be a while ) and see how it might be done another way!
  10. I was elsewhere on the web today (it is allowed!) and discovered that Cummins engines from CVRT's are fitted with Bosch pumps, ... I don' suppose it helps in this applicatiion but it may be of interest? The Bosch code (I checked) is 0 402 736 908 One of the suppliers is ..... http://www.milweb.net/webvert/71458 new or take off, there seem to be a few about ?? It just struck me that at that time the military might have opted for complete mechanical reliability, can anyone de-code and tell us whether it might suit the om606.
  11. Just read the latest 2 or 3 and thinking that 'Top Gear' is beginning to sound boring!!! bring on HH and one or two projects and Clarkson look out
  12. Is this a six cylinder?,... (sorry for perpetuating the 'off-topic Mike,... nice build) +1
  13. I think POI might be 'Points of Interest', my Garmin has fuel stations separately though.
  14. And I found the mislaid snap of the axle mod......... I took the backplates off, but left them in their respective corners and flipped the axles over. Then just made a little spacer for the bump stop.
  15. I worked quite a bit in the local metal shop and was disappointed in the modern Makita. (they buy half a dozen annually) Its true they get abused, but some had noisy gears straight out of the box and were clearly not right. There are also a lot of Makita models for each type of grinder and it takes a bit of research to make sure you are getting the real 'industrial' model. My best one lately is AEG, about 4 years and going strong, and much quieter than the Makita.
  16. I was hoping we would highlight a few of the gems, when you are as (un) nimble fingered as I am on the keyboard, I can see it would take months to find anything I will thank you.... I break normal phones very easily and have drowned a couple, but this is helpful.... thanks Soren
  17. My source says UK built but three wheelbases, and not really a true utility anymore.... more of a car.
  18. Sadly I don't have any subscriptions any more, I was used to having them all provided. (somewhat pricey just for 'tinkerings'!) When I am knocking something up though I often think 'if I could just ...' This is probably a stupid question but can you have an 'app' on or for an ordinary pc??
  19. Now that is kind of what I wanted to know, I suppose there isn't a finite element app out there?? Great stuff, as it happens I have a Carrier unit in bits at the moment! I will have to look some of them up tho'...... red spotted hanky and Glympse for starters
  20. +1 for the LLAMA; Otherwise has to be the Series 1 80". As for the modern stuff, I would buy a VW Tuareg!
  21. Well the old Nokia 5140i battery is on its way out so I guess its time to modernise again (I suppose 12 years isn't too bad ) . Do I go for another robust type ornery phone or is it time to go 3G (I would go G4 but not keen on the colour ). It seems to me the attractions are e-mail on the move and possibly the apps...... that is the main question, what is out there that is really worthwhile for the engineer and landy owner, what do you find usefull?? fun, silly or sensible....
  22. Yep, my Iveco 4010 has the cable to engage, and a spring coupled to it to dis-engage, simple and effective.
