  1. thats the largest and fuzziest photo i've ever seen !
  2. Thanks guys. Thats made me a lot happier. Can i clean the injectors or should i just replace them? The timings been checked and they say its OK. The turbo has been checked for leaks and its also OK. They also checked for oil in the turbo, also OK. So black is fuel, white is oil then....i shall remember that! Cambelt is 500 miles ish and EGT is removed??? (if this is the same as EGR) Sorry for my complete lack of knowledge. The garage mentioned someting EG?? was removed and it was "good". I presume its electronic and no good for overland?
  3. Black smoke. Worries me its high and oil seems to make it high (Reading between the lines of the link you posted) So oil = high compression and black smoke seems to fit,,, or is that simplistic? I'm off to get it back on Friday. The Garage have had it a month plus. Time to fix what they have found. Well the minor things that i can do. I'll leave the big stuff to them. I will certainly clean or replace the glow plugs as advised.
  4. i'd take em to court if they don't fix it. If you're a road user (or light user) and its only done 19k its not of merchantable quality. Costs almost nothing through small claims. They won't even turn up to the case and you'll likely win even if they do. It will cost them at least £8000 to get a brief involved. Word of advice don't threaten to do it. Just do it once you've been rejected officially by the normal (polite) means. The trans box should last way longer then that! http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/claims/index.htm http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/ Showing you have attempted to argue your case before taking legal action is always a good start. Everything in writing. A specialist will be able to do you a report and send this to LR. Show them you're serious.
  5. 400psi +/- 10% across all cylinders according to the garage. Isn't that a bit high ? If its even 400 accross all of them, should it be fine? Been advised to give a good long drive and use it for a few months which is good advice (which i'm going to do) but what do you reccon to the compression figures? The engine is smokey at start and even when revving when warm. I can generate a rather large continuous cloud by dabbing the paddle. I'll put a 1000 miles on it and then should i just change the injectors and spill (spill needs replacing anyhow) and the glow plugs as maintenance and see if its any better. I'll keep the old ones. BTW the glow plugs are oily according to the garage. If thats no good then take out the pistons and change the seals and rings etc. Is that a sensible plan? TA
  6. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/freelander-tow-bar-electrics-39873.html that should sort you. Well it might..... the freelander RAVE disk http://green-oval.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=13&Itemid=29
  7. good point. well made. if thats the advert photo, which it is, they aren't very good.
  8. @BogMonster. Its a Tea Room, so £20 is rather a lot. I did say "at least".
  9. I'm a big fan of vote with your feet and suppliers get either a 1 year or life ban based on what they have done. So based on your experience I shall give them a 1 year ban. Thats two customers they've now lost. There is no excuse for your travel after you called to confirm and thats on top of the enviromental/mechanical/time waste. Only thing i can say if write a letter (real one) to one of the Director's. You can find out who they are by various means. You might find that generates and apology and some future discount. With regards to the ban. Its not easy sticking to your guns. The local (and fave) restaurant who used to get at least £20 per week out of us got a 1 year ban based on a 30 mins wait for something which should have taken 5, with no explanation or apology. The wife must have suggested 15 times that we go back and only now have we returned after the full 12 months (actually more). Thats got to be about £500 pure profit they lost (and they know why). Local takeaway has just missed a ban by offering compensation. The British do not complain enough, and we should! How about $150 shop credit for the ski lift breaking for 30mins when i was on it. It was very cold (-25c). Complain.......
  10. not forgetting my trip is two+ years all climates. I reccon its going to need a mopping out or two Dust is a biggie though. I've seen the pictures. My slippers and pipe need a clean floor. I could follow the summer i suppose so i never have "muddy boots". Now there's and idea....... 6 months southern and 6 months northern (repeat) with the transition period in the middle where its never winter. Now thats a dream. Of course the house could be sold and this could be the rest of my natural..trouble is she won't let me sell it. Downsize, now theres a plan,,,then pension. Good idea about the grooves though. The chequer 5 rubber suff must be a nightmare to sweep. Longitudinal stripes it is, right out the back. So it looks like i'm going rubber. A bit more Googling is needed. I think i might buy shares in a silicon sealent company also.
  11. Thanks. I'm planning on getting rid of the wiper as you mentioned. The motor is actually OK so will be Ebayed. The reason the windows are under scruitny is they are pretty knackered. I'm going to try to repair them first but if i can't they need replacing or removing. I'll look into locker doors. Hadn't thought of that and i might be able to repair one window and locker the other. As for the matting or Ali i was doing it so the inside can be washed out. The inside is currently planned to have a centre isle walkway. Thats persuming the roof is still part of my project. My storage will go floor to roof on either side. Picture attached. I might just go for the rubber as it will certainly be eassier to cut, fit and remove as required.
  12. I'm looking to remove all the rear trim in my 110 CSW and line at least the floor in chequer plate or something. I'll certainly do the rear door in Ali so i can fit a table. Suppose i should ask...Rubber or Ali for the rest? Is there a complete kit you can buy or are all the parts separate? Can you buy a rear load area floor plate that goes all the way to the 2nd row footwell? Where the best supplier....its looking expensive? If i fit it is there a reason i'd need to get under it later? I'd buy the Ali plate myself as theres a local supplier in Pontefract but i'd balls up the cutting. If i did, do you think 2mm would be good enough or go for 3mm? 2mm would weigh less was my reason. Another thing. If i remove the CSW rear sliding windows can you get solid non-sliding replacements? I've seen some but they look smaller and look like they are meant for a hardtop as a retro fit. Can i just replace the entire rear cab so it has no windows? Would this be a bad idea for overlanding? A good few questions there. Searched around and got more questions. If anyones done this to theirs i'd love some pictures. thanks
  13. How permanent do you want the installation? It you start fixing straps and rubberising the floor it will be pretty permanent. http://www.roofbox.co.uk/straps/fasty_straps_transport.php http://handystraps.co.uk
  14. never converted myself but all the 3rd line guys use it on their desktops with windows as a virtual machine. If you get really stuck with something let me know as we have about 5 developers/engineers who may be able to help. I can ask if any use it for GPS. Be after Xmas though.
  15. BS2869 requires Oil Companies to supply diesel fuel with a CFPP of at least -15°C from October to March (-12°C for gas oil / "red" diesel), but only 0° during the summer months. Often it is well into the winter before diesel operators can be sure that their fuel is 'protected' to -15°C, as a result of adding winter grade fuel into tanks still containing summer grade fuel. CFPP = COLD FILTER PLUGGING POINT buy some addative. Just shecked Texaco and their summer mix is -5 and its been colder than that here. It was -7.3 here at 9am this morning. Their winter mix is -15 typical and -19 nominal.
  16. Depending who you bank with licences are often free. Barclays certainly offer free Kaspersky and some of the others do. I can only recommend NOD32. I work in the industry and have neved heard a bad word. My mother uses AVG and i use Kaspersky due to the free licence. If you want one let me know. I have three full licences and only use one. I'm happy to give you one of them via PM. The package is called Kaspersky Internet Security. We can re-new each year via PM or email but you'll get 365 when you register. All legal. NP. Do not use Norton or any symantec product. Ever. Its practically a virus in its own right. All the others are pretty much OK and although NOD32 is certainly the best AV some others are better at overall secuirty. My employer has recently gone for G Data after extensive trials. Its a hybrid so supposedly very good using multiple engines (which should tick one of our boxes!). None of the engines are LPG....hehe PM me if you want my licence key or a family member may already use Barclays.
  17. Mike At the moment thats is true but from what i've read in Jan 2010 thats no longer the case (happy to be corrected here ). Anything over 3000kg and its a class 7. No matter what the seats are (or windows and distance between front and back rows,,blah blah etc). My V5C im' NOT listed as Estate but am listed as Light 4x4 Utility and P L Goods. I remember you mentioning this when we were looking at your removable " for MOT purposes only" seating . From what i've read now it looks like were both knackered and class 7 and so my question. Is it really much problem? Please don't take this as completly true but at the moment its looking that way. I'm not bothered until its costing me money,,, well, at any rate, money thats more than a few quid each year i.e. the class 4 to class 7 price difference. that's no biggie. From what i've read some of the ferry companies charge the earth if you're a "commercial" and its looking more like this every day...LEZ and now MOT,,,barstools. Will it cost me at the border, will i have to queue with the lorries in Tibet? My list is endless.......for the sake of this forum you can forget the last bits. I'm just ranting. Go back to the last para and stop reading. One more thing...the plate goes front to back. entire length? I shall look. Any more detail? 110 still in Garage 100miles away so not easy but i will check. I might go get it back for Xmas. Want to play,,, i have some bits to replace.
  18. Thanks Western (or is it Ralph) I have some old Photos. Its looks like one outside (i suppose) from what you said but might not be. Also has the light. See attached. I have more if you want more?
  19. So the VIN "M" is Station Waggon and I'm not assured its a County. No letter for county then. any way to be sure? any tell tail indicators?
  20. Sorry to re-open this old thread. Whats the big deal of a class VII MOT. Its not much more expensive. Is there some other issue i'm missing? Mine is on the V5C as 3499kg (obviously wrong for a 110CSW). Need to check the plate in the Engine Bay but don;t have the 110 to hand at the moment. Is this an issue for anything other than slightly dearer £57.50 MOT ? Should I care? Will this (i.e. 3499kg) cause issues with Tolls, Ferries etc when on my trip? Sorry lots of questions.....TA
  21. I might have one for sale soon enough. Whats the going rate?
  22. What he said....especially number 3. If i managed it anyone can. Admittedly it cost me £100 for three viewings but two others were free. I can honestly say the guy i paid was the best of the lot,, spending 45 - 60 mins on each one. Money well spent and spotting many item i would not have.
  23. @Snagger, Now that all sounds pretty sensible to me. Not that all the other stuff before is incorrect but your logic seems sound on the Engine not running bit. Mikes not the only person quoting "destruction by fan" stories. Considering my viscous will be new as will the entire fan assembly i'm not going to panic over what might be. If i did that i'd not be going on my trip. All considered I think i might still go for standard. I always listen to the horror stories though and am usually over cautious. I can honestly say everyones advice has been listened to and at least no arguments have developed this time. Some people just can't take it if you don't accept their advice on face value. I think the moral on this one is both have their merits. I'd rather not destroy my radiator but then again i'd rather not have to think about any of this at all. Who thought this would be so complicated!
  24. Few times recently and always excellent. Duncan was helpful and even though we did have a problem the correct part was set FOC and a kept the incorrect one (low value part). To be honest i would recomend them beyond just saying they were OK.
