I'm putting a 2.5TD in catflapII. It was blowing oil into the air filter, but it's been hammered many times, so it's hardly surprising. I intend to replace the rings and see how it runs, then if necessary, do a full re-build.
This is a good engine to put in an 88", and will pull it like a train.

I'm right in the middle of messing with gearboxes, so I can help in perhaps a small way. There are two layshafts - The 1-ton is different, or at least the part number is. In my parts book it lists the 1-ton type as 'optional or 1-ton' (words to that effect anyway). Dunno about the mainshaft, not got to that yet.

If the oil filter is the bypass type, then if it gets blocked it should'nt prevent lubrication of the engine.
You would know within a few seconds if the oil had really stopped circulating as the first thing to starve would be the head/rockers/camshaft. Louder, more rattly/threshing noise, like an old sewing machine indicates poor lubrication. Maybe the guage has a fault and everything is fine?

The 300TDi lift pump has no woodruff key on the shaft where the belt sprocket is to assist in re-setting the timing. Not sure how you would go about setting it up. Chaging it is no harder than a 200TDi though.

A series clutch is 10-splines and an LT77 is 20, so the plate won't fit. I don't know about the cover, the thrust bearing looks the same, but I'm not sure if they are.

For a couple of days I've been putting your signatures that you used on LRE onto this site. I've been working mostly from memory, and as the LRE forums removal is now imminent, I can't guarantee to get the job done using the old site as a reference. If you don't have a custom signature already, then please let me know if you would like one. I need to know your forum name and what you would like your signature to say.

When the Lre forums finally disappear then I'll give you the information you require, but we still have to tread carefully for a couple of months. You'll all be able to vent your anger on here eventually - promise.
Before then it might cause more trouble for us and ruin some plans.

You lot have no taste!! Ford crossflow engines were very good.
Mind you, I'm not surprised the clutch slips, I bet it won't last long either trying to drag all that weight around all the time. At first glance I thought that it was sitting on it's rims. I dread to think what it would be like to drive.
