  1. Grade 10.9 should be used and as above loctite (the oil resistant one) after cleaning it all out first then torque it up tight and it should never come lose. There is no reason why recoverys should work them lose any more than driving dow the road or parking one wheel on the curb!
  2. What engine??? I think £18 seems a little steep but it does depend on what engine it is as to how many parts, and altho their quality. As for fuel consumption i doubt it will change enought to notice, and power, you might see a small increase. Overall it is worth it, even for keeping your engine cleaner rather than having nasty carp recycled through the engine.
  3. I'm heading up there in a bit so will take some then.
  4. Streaky - its not actually your responsibility to pay for the return costs, it is however QT's responsibility to replace the arms as there is a design fault and they could cause catastrophic failure, if they want them back then they have to pay and they cant refuse replacement if you dont want to send them back at their cost. Its all covered by various UK regs including the sale of goods act and others.
  5. The stable isnt mine though and unfortunately there is a hay loft above thats in use, not sure they would mix well with a burner but still, its better than nothing and @ £7 a week i canna complain!
  6. Thats just what i need - shame i dont have 4 walls on my "workshop", stables really arent ideal!!!
  7. Ring either Ian or Pete (ian is IRB and pete is Bell autos - both really nice chaps to deal with)
  8. They were developed by IRB developments and Bell Auto services, they are the guys to speak to and from the dyno print outs they are briliant...
  9. The law states that as long as the person next to you has B+E as described above then its legal - the reasons behind doing it are not required by law and if they ask, then its fairly simple as you are practicing for your test, perfectly legal either way!
  10. I've got my card now - went in the other day with a bunch of reciepts and managed to find someone who wasnt a complete dunce like the previous chap and they did it without a quibble
  11. Not only thicker tube but a higher grade, NOR use Clubman 500 which is stronger.
  12. So would the spraying be the top coat then Nige, to cover the grey primer the truck is painted in???
  13. Diff, half shafts, CV or drive flanges. Starting at the outside it should become fairly obvious To reduce possibility of damage disconnect the front prop when using it in "2 wheel drive get me home mode" but beware if its a CV or diff it could catastrophically get worse through use.
  14. Looks interesting Dave, what is the steering lock going to be like with the knuckles as ive seen some setups (in pics from pirate 4x4) which get some crazy angles, much improved on our rover steering angles.
  15. I've got a cage and NFU insure me....they know about every mod from tyres & suspension to winches and cage without a problem.
  16. Very interesting pat_pending, thanks for the information
  17. Ah, well i have a choice of sell with 12months MOT or none since the old one expired a while back!
  18. Interesting topic, especially the amount of poeple saying not to trust the MOT on a vehicle for sale....i'm just about to sell my 90, and had every intention of putting a new MOT on it - is this the wrong thing to do then???
  19. My personal cage of choice is North Offroad - fantastic cages for the money made of top spec materials and expertly constructed and welded.
  20. Hello and Welcome Marcel, I can only answer a few of your questions, with regards to the clutch you can change the dual mass flywheel for a solid one with either standard, HD or race clutch. The cheaper ones are made by Britpart (standard and HD), the more expensive HD and Race ones are made by Rakeway www.rakeway.com As far as i am aware there isnt a 6 speed box available for the TD5 and am unsure if the new TD4 box will fit, someone on here will know though! For your gearbox you ought to speak to Dave Ashcroft www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk as he is the drivetrain guru and a very helpful chap.
  21. Self employed mechanic or high volume parts buyer probably covers most of us!
  22. I just popped in and had a chat with them - wish i hadnt bothered! "are you a mechanic" "no, im an engineer but i work on and repair vehicles" "oh, so your an engineer in the army" "no, i never mentioned the army, im an engineer, i dont have a mechanics qualification so im not a mechanic, but i am an engineer and work on vehicles" "in the army?" ......i give up and walk away!
  23. Nah - they are wrong, the 4.25T train weight is relating to B, not B+E....you would think a training place would know this!
