  1. Nope - the kenlowe stat probably wasn't working beforehand either TBH, they're bleedin' awful! After putting a new fanbelt on (shredded by flints in the mud) I drove home like that
  2. Found a better photo, this is what a LR engine should look like:
  3. I refer you to Dave White's challenge 100" http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/vehicl.../megasquirt.php And the water testing procedure! Placed 33rd out of 55 finishers in the 2005 Outback Challenge, which I think was his first try at that event.
  4. I love the "commentary" on the photos: ...as would "not letting quite so much air out in the first place"
  5. There's a distinction between those who haven't got the time / space / whatever to build a vehicle so have to pay someone else to do the work, and those who just throw a chequebook at one of the big companies and say "build me a challenge truck" without any great thought about the details. See also Brute Force And Ignorance.
  6. Why go to all that hassle, just buy an inflatable dalek: http://www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk/index.php...roducts_id=5759 Or for that matter a thoroughly modern nodding dog:
  7. Well this is my old engine: But the new one will look about the same, albeit with neater wiring/plumbing and hopefully minus a distributor.
  8. Who knew Fi had been "artificially enhanced" Coat on...
  9. We've been officially banned from forwarding that NTL complaint at work A mate is an "Orange phone trainer" he gets people phone up and ask where to put the film in a camera-phone
  10. Gelf - very good point. However, Andy (Moglite) is building his entire truck for the price of a set of MD portals (or trying to ) there will always be those who throw their chequebook at the truck and let someone else do all the work, but I suspect most people will be more interested in the ones where people have used their own initiative and put some work in themselves. From another point of view - suppose Andy with his 5k home-build enters a challenge event and comes close 2nd to someone who's spent 50k on a 90. Who's done better?
  11. Aren't the VM's kinda fussy about maintainance, something to do with being designed to be cooled by the entire sea rather than cooped up in some little vehicle?
  12. www.maplin.co.uk www.terralec.co.uk specifically PA-100
  13. Clicky: http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/knock.html
  14. I've just been on a great one, thought I'd share: "Customer has had a fire at their premises, suspects some comms equipment may have been affected, fibre link to switchboard is down" OK thinks I, toddle off to the premises expecting maybe some part of the building has caught fire and smoke/water has got near the comms room, or power is out, etc... No - the switchboard CAUSED the fire! The cable came out of the BT box and went into a pile of melted plastic and metal that used to be the switchboard. Got the fibre link working again and told them all they need to do now is peel the switchboard off the floor and plug a new one in
  15. And for an encore you could try: Or is that young Robert
  16. Buying a kit someone's started and then got the hump with (or died before finish as with one a mate has just bought!) can save £££ over option 1/1b but be prepared to take it all apart and start again - do YOU trust the person you bought from to have done it as you'd like? The LoCost is a good option as far as I can tell, you can buy anything from a book, to pre-made bits, to a complete car as required. Check Practical Performance car magazine, ignore Kit Car mags they all think they're 100% wonderful and worth 10x what they really are. Your biggest PITA will be the SVA - have a VERY close look at that before deciding if you really want to build one yourself. I have the Kit Car magazine SVA guide if you want to borrow it, it'll cost you an A4 SAE.
  17. Perhaps the only time I'm glad to live in a block of flats - they can't get past the main door entry Also it's been absolutely p*ssing down with rain all night, problem solved!
  18. And screwed down with 19" rack mount screws and placcy washers I'll get my anorak...
  19. I was with you up to "Paracetamol", then I had to go and take one! Really must get that EDIS sorted...
  20. Good for morale, what what old bean?
  21. So when do we get "right to roam" then? Maybe we should take a leaf out of the RA's book and stage a "mass trespass", sure that'd go down well...
  22. A 3.9 engine has 400 more cc but the injector flow rate is no different IIRC, what are you gaining? Jag AFM will have the wrong fuel curve in it, yes it flows more air but if the mixture's cocked you could have other problems. Rob - was wondering if anyone would recognise it
  23. Markie: Ready built ECU: £170 V8 EFi setup minus ECU & AFM: £10 (sodbury) Wiring tail: £25 MegaView built: Maybe £50 ish depending on display and case used, VFD modules such as here cost a lot more than LCD. This is a very rough estimate assuming you're fitting it yourself.
