  1. Like everyone who's posting on LRA I like the ambience and sense of freedom....it's new and it feels like we are all free again. Great! However, an enormous amount has happened over the last few weeks, with bad blood splirting everywhere, and the immense distrust causing some people to look over their shoulders. I feel justified in being critical of exerciseer Green & co for letting this mess happen in the first place.....but I'm getting worried when I hear colleagues laying into moderators. I think we ought to pause for breath and reflect upon what we now have. Having two forums may confuse, but we now have access again to those important archives.......and we have yet to see the majority of LRE subscribers migrate to LRA. If you read Bigfoot's post of today's date in the British Iles section of the LRE Forum you will see confirmation that the link with the LRE magazine has completely gone.....and we all now know that's a good thing indeed. Further [and I say this through gritted teeth] if we're being objective we should acknowledge that someone within LRE's management has exercised a not inconsiderable degree of statesmanship to allow the Forum to pass on.......Herr Green could have taken his ball away, after all. I think LRA is currently superior to LRE for a number of reasons; if it wins out in terms of subscriber numbers it will be by dint of relevence and quality of advice - and that would be a plus for our community. That's the natural order of things....but please lets not knock those who choose to visit the other place, whether or not they post, or those who have tried [successfully] to wrench a precious resource away from the magazine. Bigfoot deserves some respect, boys. Neil
  2. Can you point me towards the LRE Forum article....can't find it. Neil
  3. Michele Looks a bit naff on the Jeep [link from Tony]......makes it look a tad retro and plasticky and without any thought for ergonomics....now where've we seen that combination before? Neil
  4. Might be cheaper to import from the US - ask seller to mark package as GIFT then no UK taxes applied. http://www.marlincrawler.com/winch.html $39 http://www.off-road.com/jeep/news/2004_12/...2/fairlead.html $55 http://winchline.com/mcart/index.cgi?ID=17...ID=IT17&code=13 $49 http://www.okoffroad.com/stuff-fairlead.htm $59 But now - big roll of drums - for real devotees of bling....... or this...... or this...... From your tasteful friends at Rock Dancer Products [ http://rockdancerproducts.com ]. Each fairlead is CNC Machined from 6061-T6 Billet Aluminum Hard Anodized 1â€X 4â€X 12â€....Hot Lips cost $149, which isn't bad from a value point of view.....difficult to comment on the aesthetics........ You see, we're light years behind the Americans! Neil
  5. Have found him - hadn't discovered LR Addict - now that LRE Forum back up as an archive.
  6. If the Optimate won't revive it then nothing will....I have a red top which used to run flat when I left the truck standing for a few weeks [bloody Immobiliser spider problem] and a standard charger could never revive it. The Optimate would bring it back to full charge after 24 hours. I love them, but they are very expensive, and there are alternatives which are good enough for most uses. Throw it away and find a cheap source for a Maxima. Neil PS Trev - where is Furnaux Riddel and how much?
  7. Let's be careful here - it could have been a freak coincidence of loading.......a large number of posts at the same time. Apart from this incidence, the system has been pretty robust. Normally providers will blame their problems [eg server failure, the ultimate horror for customers] on customer issues, so it might never happen again.....try and put it behind you, guys. By the way, I love the phrase 'unsuspending' !! I will use it from now on!! Neil
  8. Do we have a contact number? I wouldn't mind the wheels. In fact, I could do with the bricks as well....I need to build a barbie. Neil
  9. I reckon he can't afford a colour TV licence so he's going to paint everything b&w.
  10. You could raise that amount from sales of stickers and Tshirts.....happily most of us in the Land Rover fraternity seem to wear size XXL [for comfort and value, of course] so the production risk is reduced. Land Rover Addict makes a good T shirt slogan.
  11. Les/Geoff I note that www.landroveraddict.com and www.landroveraddict.co.uk web addresses were mysteriously registered on 3 August and 5 August respectively by an undisclosed registrant via a nominee in Belfast...I hope this was by a friendly sole. This leaves a couple of other viable addresses available for a bit of mischief. Assuming that the Forum now holds the www.landroveraddict.com and .co.uk addresses, do you not think it's time you asked for a whip round to cover costs of registering the .net, .org and .org.uk options? Paypal would be an easy route for most people - asking for a fiver would notch up some resource....can't be the only one happy to donate. Setting this up must have already been expensive, so I am sure the community would help share some or all of the costs of kicking it off. Enlightened mutual self interest!! Neil
  12. NFU are also very cheap - they do insure a few farmers' Land Rovers. I think I pay £160 fully comp, and when I had a Defender stolen two years ago they offered a cheque the next day...£2k more than I'd paid for it....couldn't have been more helpful. Neil
  13. I've emailed Mr Green at least five times since closure of the LRE Forum was imminent, using the email addresss richard.green@landroverenthusiast.com - never got a single reply, despite reminding him he was a tosser after he failed to reply to the first four. Strangely, if you look at the email addresses on the LRE website, only Mr Teflon has his personal address - the rest are all a shared address. However, I think that there is a live address at james.taylor@landroverenthusiast.com.........so I think you should try and excite the monkey as well as the organ grinder.....he is supposed to have editorial control after all and therefore our interests as Land Rover geeks at heart. Neil
  14. Concur re purple feed - you've found where the juice goes in! Neil
  15. The biggest potential noise will come from the metal panel resonating [thrumming] - what you need is a self adhesive bitumastic anti resonance pad [approx A4 size] in the middle of the panel. [Halfords used to sell them]. Heat insulation can be anything, but bear in mind it will trap moisture. From memory the only insulation on a production Defender is the door card. You could try glueing polypropelene carpet tiles to the panel. Glue [hot glue gun] plastic sheet to the interior of the door. Neil
  16. Give Poppy a load-level kit from a breaker/fit Disco polyurethane spring silencers to rear [sit on top of the spring and removes most NVH - v.cheap]. Neil
  17. Sounds like bushes to me - hope so, Michele, as relatively cheap fix. Surely you'd feel any major tracking error on all surfaces.......there'd be tugging one way or t'other. Can recommend fitment of the Disco silencer plates for all Defenders - made out of a dense polyurethane - very cheap from LR dealer and remove significant amounts of NVH [why put up with it]. Transformed the on-road ride for my truck. Also give a useful 1/2" lift. Neil
  18. Have the guys saved all of the Technical Archive?? If it's all there, then this must have been a mamoth task as there was presumably no simple way of doing it. I hope so - was always my first bolt hole if I couldn't work out how to rectify a fault.....more valuable than RAVE. Neil
  19. These images were sent to me by simonb. Thanks Simon - very clear:
  20. One of you guys out there was asking for a set of wiring diagrams for his 300 TDi on LRE Forum....if it's YOU give me another pm with your address and I will forward what you need. Unfortunately no-one can access their mail boxes on the LRE Forum website any more......I mean, good riddance etc etc but someone out there is waiting for help!! Neil
  21. I think you should have made the options clearer....specifically, one question should read 'Did you follow a link from the LRE Forum?'. I had to re-read the options several times to avoid ticking the wrong box. Have been involved in a great deal of market research....email me if you need any help with wording. Neil
  22. Simon Any chance of a drawing, however crude Neil
  23. Bit of a sad story.....I want Clint Eastwood to play Les, Frank Spencer to play Richard Green, and Mother Theresa to play the girl who cleans out the cupboards...make my day, punk!!!! You've got to admit to being impressed by the new, LRE recommended, Land Rover Chronicle website.....LEAD STORY......Disc Jockey at Range Rover Sport photoshoot......hey, let's get wized up guys, we're just not part of the hip scene...... We're better off over here....so how do we rope in the missing thousands? What we need is an accountant........... Neil
