  1. Very good Devils Advocate! BUT Superbike Magazine used to call a carp test bike, carp!! even to the point that I think it was Honda stopped giving them bikes to test, until they realised that that was even worse than sorting their **** out! Haven't read it for a while but it used to be a real "call it how you find it" mag! proved you could if you had the balls! Do think we are asking a bit much though as most Landy owners are happy with fairly standard trucks with a few add ons and are not as "perved" as us lot LRM is probably the best LR only mag though, balance not too bad. TOR is ok for a read but what they call "well prepared" needs serious attention!!! My god they have featured some carp Lara
  2. Hi John, Have had a good look at all your turbo pics etc throughout this thread and would almost guarantee you that your turbo is not surging! Exhaust is easily big enough and compressor side is in my opinion perfect for a 1 bar application! you could even go larger in all probability! I believe you are thinking too hard Don't worry, set it to closed at idle and Drive it! You will see Lara.
  3. Hi John, Difficult to tell by the vid but I personally doubt that you are hearing "Serge" Serge usually sounds like a slush pump and is not constant but a churning noise, it will almost certainly only be heard coming from the compressor side. Just think you have an old turbo, are hearing other sounds and not to worry. Much more worrying if you hear surge type noises at low engine speeds and high throttle / boost settings. Then start to investigate. Lara.
  4. If your spring is doing what you show in the graph, then that is fairly ideal, The aim is to get the turbo to spin up as fast as possible ie. to simulate the smallest turbine possible, which it should do with the vanes directing gas inwards towards the turbine wheel. Then moving to simulate a larger turbine as the boost gets to where you want it to be. The control can staying on it's seat for as long as possible will do this best! 1 bar at 2300 may be all it will ever give you? Try it with the can disconnected and see if you get 1bar earlier? if not, then that is all that this turbo will ever give you, reaction wise! Maybe a larger compressor wheel is needed? Lara.
  5. Would totally disagree with that Pacey, I have a big mother of a steam cleaner and regularly steam my truck underneath after off roading, I do mine on a bridge and get completely underneath it and clean everywhere, until no mud is seen of felt! this takes at least a 5 hour morning to get every nook and cranny and then at least 3 hours to clean the workshop mess!!! Waxoyling when done properly and injected into all cavities etc will take at least as much time on a totally DRY vehicle. If you ask me, To do it well, and I mean very well I would pay Dylan "from Before N After" to do it! I know he is not the most popular guy around and to be honest is a funny guy to get on with, but you would be too if you spent your entire life Waxoyling cars! He does a bloody good job, and earns every penny he charges. I got mine Kleantected and Waxoyled from new by Chris, I treat it hard, but also look after it, my underside is as good as the day I bought it!!! 7 years ago. And I have absolutely no body rust what so ever! Get it done properly and don't try to save money at this important stage! Lara.
  6. Sounds like good service! I have a Rovercom setup and the backup service is worse than dreadful! you have to use a forum for backup and they answer one question a day if you are lucky, and most of the time they deny problems and tell you it must be you! If you complain, then they tell you that they are actually doing you a favour by answering your questons out of hours, but then that is your one question per day (not a rule, but real life) answered Wish I had never bought it Luckily I have only needed it once, and even then it was only to clear fault codes after an ignition sensor problem. They should perhaps take an example from Nanocom and help their customers in a normal and more useful manner! Well done Nanocom. Lara
  7. Have loads of springs, Tell me what length you need, what load at fitted length. What stroke needed. Lara
  8. Anyone seen the new JE Engineering "Zulu" ??? http://www.jeengineering.co.uk/ It should be called a friggin "Nutter Ninja B-----d" cos with 450BHP it will disappear into the night as soon as you look at the throttle!!! Am trying very hard not to order a nice Bonatti Grey 110! Everything but my head says I "NEED" one Lara
  9. Sounds like something is wrong, but also remember that although the speedo will show 100 miles etc your wheel / vehicle with the larger tyre dia will have travelled maybe 105 miles etc, Lara
  10. totally agree with you Eduardo, But as you say Tata are not a charity! Nor is the Taxpayer! Tata does not share it's profit with the taxpayer so therefore it should not get a preferential loan! Full loan terms secured by collateral at full interest and someone held liable, OK, but not a prefferential "handout!" And why should the taxpayer loan money to someone who could easily finance themselves but obviously do not have enough faith to do so? I do agree there are special situations to do so and people loosing there jobs cost money and are unfortunate, But I do not believe this is "actually" the case with LR / Tata. I smell a nasty smell from this deal. and it ain't curry! Lara Nuff said by me on this subject, leave it to others views now
  11. And so they should!! The thing that gets my goat is that unless they are total morons (and clearly they are not as they have built up a very good company in Tata) then they had some pretty good accountants and business lawyers in on the deal when they bought LR / Jag, now this was only a few months ago! and "suddenly" they have problems? well so do loads of other companies etc who ain't got Billions behind them! If I had problems with one of my companies then I personally would have to bail them out! and if I couldn't then I would be looking for a job Allin with my employees! When do these big companies ever give out free handouts to taxpayers? Mr Tata could finance it himself and probably not even have to skip a holiday, Tough but true! Unless the government wants to buy shares and then give it back to the taxpayer when profitable??? And no it does not affect me one bit but I believe in fairness and this tinkles me off!!! Same with banks being bailed out! They are responsible for gross neglect! the men at the top who have been walking away with big fat bonuses should have to give that back first! as the bonus was obviously gained through miss management rather than good management!!! The situation that the banks have got them selves in was waiting to happen just as any "Pyramid scheme" ask Jean-Pierre Van Rossem (Wiki him) We need more accountability and more responsibility from these people. Lara.
  12. What total B------s!!!!! The new owner of Landrover is a god damn Billionaire!!!!! He should be the one forking out the hundred or so million!!!! When was the last time we heard a company say, Oh, we earned so much this year, we will share it with the taxpayers??? What a con!!!!! now I have seen it all, some foreign Billionaire owned company buys an ailing company in this England, it has more problems (there is a surprise ) and the new owner says "well, if your government can lend me some money at silly low interest rates, and very little security, all will be OK" F *** is what I say! They are just milking the situation!!!!!!! Lara. PS. Can Gordon please lend me a couple of Mill? Please, I need some nice machines to help me wipe my a**e!!!
  13. I love the reaction from the fat guy in blue!!!! Does he even realise something odd happened? Lara
  14. They look safe enough to me! When cars were mostly leaf sprung we used to use 2 flat bits of 1/4 plate to lift the backs up! Standard was just the same on my old Mk2 Cortina and all my mates Escorts at the time! These while not a great invention look to be made perfectly well for what they are, Except maybe the bolt shank length. Let's not try and hang this guy eh! now we haven't got Scrap Iron there is no need for a replacement to hate Lara
  15. Whatever the real cause of this tragedy, May our thoughts go with Mr Gresham, his family and all who were affected by this event. May God only judge him and may we all learn from his terrible loss. Lara, Signing out of this thread.
  16. Perhaps something was needed to be done! Of course there should have been a court hearing / case, 4 people were killed here! But I feel that Mr Gresham and the public were severely let down by the pitiful defence argument! We have learnt nothing here, the prosecutions argument that was reported was so severely flawed, and due to a total lack of defence we never found answers to questions that should have been asked. Their argument may well have been good, but they should deffinately have been challenged by a competant lawyer!! Court room and public messages should have been separated in my opinion! Can't help feeling that Mr Gresham is being made a public example of here! and that is NOT Justice!!!! The coroners court would have been a much better place to make a strong point regarding the responsibilities of home mechanics. Very sad day for everyone! Lara.
  17. Sounds like a prospective sponsorship opportunity!!! Lara
  18. Three absolutely spot on posts!!!!! Who am I going to argue with now. you inconsiderate lot Statylite trackers! I like the sound of that Lara
  19. That looks like machine controlled welding on a second run to me, Not? Lara
  20. Jez, That is exactly what I am saying! Muppets do drive at unsafe speeds down country lanes all the time in all sorts of motors, But you generally don't see large groups of them. Go to any event run like Santa's and you will See large groups of them! (sorry to use Santa's but it is a V good example) Not so fast as a Ferrari but probably more likely to crash! I am not saying it has never happened but I have never seen anyone check their muddy truck before heading off to the next site during an event, other than "maybe" cleaning their lights. Sorry to say that I am also guilty at this I know of some competitors who I think would kill their granny in order to win a plastic pot! Not driving fast would not even enter their heads! Nor would loosing 10 minutes in order to do a rough safety check even be conceivable for then to imagine without a schizo attack! This needs to be stopped!!!!! It is not the total responsibility of the organisers but it would be so easy just to take away the "need" to be on the road OR drive quickly on the road, and make arrangements for cleaning / inspecting. Actually it IS the responsibility of the organisers to ensure that all vehicles leaving their site should be free of loose mud etc! That alone would help safety inspection as you look while you clean as a rule ;o) Lara
  21. In WRC they have a 2 million pound budget and 10 mechanics! And they usually don't throw them down a cliff face and expect to drive them afterwards! We are talking Heavy Challenge scene here, Different horse race. You telling me that the vehicles cobbled together to finish the Rain Forrest Challenge are road legal in England afterwards! NO! Lara
  22. Firstly Dave W, I acknowledge your post and agree with the most, but come on, open your eyes! You don't have to break the speed limit to be "speeding", 60mph on a country road with a Landrover of any sort is stupidity, but not illegal or speeding, My own Landy is VERY fast for a londrover and handles VERY well for a landrover, but not GOOD compared to a normal road car! 60mph round a bend on a country road with muddy tyres etc is just plain stupid, but not illegal ! And it is done time and time again between locations! I have no gripe with keeping the vehicles to "road legal" spec, just don't ask them to do it during a competition! This is forcing someone to drive a wet, muddy, possibly damaged vehicle on the public highway, with probably muddy feet! and to add to that, even with speed enforcement, most people would drive at or close to the enforceable speed limit, which is asking for trouble! I have seen accidents on the road on several events, luckily none with injuries, but to kid our selves that it won't happen is foolish! It does and it usually includes something going wrong with the competition vehicle and / or speed unsuitable for the vehicle in that condition! I actually don't think this thread is about any particular vehicle BUT it is easy for us to say afterwards that "we" would have failed it at scrutineering! We probably would have if everything that we read in the papers is true, but then we would also have men on Mars! I can not comment on your event but to be honest the level of scrutineering at an event can not possibly be high enough standard to check all vehicles properly, Or we would need another 2 days and a workshop with lifts! Dolly, nothing hard at all for normal roadwork, but that just is not the case when driving between "timed" sections, Not the road section timed, but the need to get there fast and give your self more time for the competitive sections. I was not there but would bet heavy (if I was a betting man) that not one comp vehicle driven between the sites on this years Santa's Challenge for instance was driven at standard gentle driving speeds! or was cleaned off before leaving one site and entering the road! The organiser could stop this! Easily! Stop the clock between sites! Steam cleaner before the road, ETC Costly and not so nice, but probably a good thing! I can not say truthfully that I am not guilty of some of the above either! can anyone on here? Lara
