  1. Without adding to what everyone has said well enough already, I have one statement. "Without any doubt, of all the extensive modifications I have done on my Landy, The one mod that stands out above the rest head and shoulders as the "best thing I ever did" is fitting the Auto box" PERIOD! nothing else comes close to the advantages of using this when off road!! Lara
  2. And remember that with LPG a "lean" mixture is actually colder than a "rich" one! which means Rich = danger!! Lara
  3. Simple! you can't The only way is to buy some oil, rig up a filler tube (pain in the arse) undo the filler plug in the front of the gearbox sump and fill with the engine running untill oil is dripping out. Full! Lara
  4. I have a lockup override button on the dash, this will lockup the TC in any gear and at any speed providing that the speed is above a pre set wheel speed inside the gearbox ecu, this is about 15k/h in high range and about 1.5 in low box, it is very usefully sometimes but you will actually find that in most circumstances, as long as you are off of the throttle in "over run" situations, the TC is locked by the computer anyway. JE Engineering did mine at my request several years ago. ("Julian's Tomb Raider" if you want to inquire, they will remember) Lara
  5. I take it that the Ford 9" R&P wont fit then? Lara
  6. Dave, Now that we see you nearing completion, how are the forecasted prices looking? Lara
  7. Great Dave, Well done!! But as above, a prop restraint would be a good idea, as you are testing something new, just in case you have a diff seizure etc and the prop lets go! could be more than exciting for the person stood next to it! Great to see this project evolve! Good seller I hope! Lara
  8. Wow Will !!! You are getting wiser and wiser AND doing your own build! IMPRESSED! Good advice! I think this is all pointing to a serious re-think! And a look at what others are doing with their finished and "running" vehicles! Don't look at builds like mine (Ced's) or Wills or any other "in progress" vehicle as an example as we don't know whether they will work yet as they are not "tested" This is very important! anyone can build on paper and although we are fairly sure that our stuff will work you should not take our word for it Look at the other vehicles that have done the events that you want to do and look at their approach. Their engines, Their suspension and their Weight etc! Turbocharger has a good point, but remember that although you can gear down a small engine to pull big axles wheels etc you will surely loose the speed! And do not under estimate the drag of a big bogger in deep Mud!!! you will need some grunt to spin those up!!!! Lara
  9. Again for running repairs it comes down to "how engine mechanical are you" some people can fix anything anywhere but the more "modern" it is, the less likely you are to be able to fix it if something **** happens! We have finished rallies before with 1 of the 6 pistons removed and the pushrods removed to keep the valves closed! wouldn't want to try to do that with a modern chain driven OHC multi valved turbo nutter!! A lot to be said for a simple approach and a little less power! and as Jez says, when you need parts, ?????????????? Lara
  10. Buy a cheap Yank 4x4 and use as much as possible! Sell the rest and have fun! Lara
  11. All depends on how technically minded you are! I reckon you could build a 200/300tdi engine with a roots type blower and turbo with a bit of methanol injection etc to give an easy and reliable 200+ bhp and give quite a bit of low down torque to boot!! Or even better, start with a TGV, (does Will Warn still have his old one) and a bit of work etc you could be flying! I like the TD5 but for a comp engine there is no reason a tdi will not be fine! just lacks the finesse of the TD5 (if you can call it that ) BUT If you need to pay someone to help then you are better off getting a cheap Chevy V8, But not sure what the answer is for transmissions if this is your route! Loud pedal + speed + big boots all rotating very fast and then + a sudden stop when you hit grip etc = Big bang $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ if your running gear isn't up to it! Lara
  12. I had a Sprinter 312 4x4 a few years ago, worked great! snowy roads and dirty tracks etc pulling a trailer, perfect, it even had an electric locking rear diff and selectable traction control ! Absolutely Great vehicle! Got a new 316 2wd now though. Better for 95% of my use but carp on muddy fields etc BUT I do have a Vito 115 4x4 long wheelbase to do those things with! spoiled I know Lara
  13. Hi, The post from Jez is not insulting, I said "criticize" and it is silly criticism, just because the 88 "worked" does not mean that anything over 88 or whatever is a waste of time! the 88 didn't work as well as Jez wanted it too or he wouldn't have changed it would he? the point I was making was this, For someone with quite obviously the talent that Jez has, making a comment like that, (and others more recently) is quite frankly "bellow him" to imply that anyone going the 100' route is only going to reduce the overall performance of their vehicle is absolutely ridiculous and I was asking what wheelbase his own car was? or the next one on the work bench / drawing board? Jez knows as well as the rest of us that 100" or there abouts just happens to be a fairly good compromise when running 36" and over tyres! I thought that he should share some of his extensive knowledge rather than shun others for doing exactly what he is doing!! And not being offensive myself either, I have a lot of respect for Jez's skills, Just calling it how it is that's all! Lara
  14. Jez, how long is Mouse's wheel base? And if there was nothing wrong with Petal's 88" why did you change it? It seems that nowadays all you ever come on here to do is to criticize everyone else's cars or engineering while implying the superiority of your own! you surprise me to be honest! Lara.
  15. Don't worry it wasn't pressure from this forum, I spoke with Dieter about it ages ago and he said it was a temp solution due to a space problem and they were going to solve it when they had the time, They obviously got round to it Tim is our "team partner" for two car events so I suppose we batter try and catch up Lara
  16. Yes, that is extremely high if deg C, general rule 750 at tops for safe use. Although high boost does not = high EGTs many times just raising the boost without adding fuel will actually lower EGT as the extra air acts to cool things down! this is one of the reasons that most factory diesels will benefit from extra fuel, because automotive factory settings are anything up to 60% lean!! Boost itself does not necessarily give lower reliability fro your engine either! however anything over 1.8 bar will certainly play a role in turbo life! Lara
  17. And remember that if it is pointing forward and you go too fast into a river etc the wave can go in and easily inhale enough to hydraulic the engine! I had a couple of close calls like that that luckily my ITG filter saved by just blocking and not collapsing like a paper one does, the whole lower box was filled though Moved it to point inward by the screen now!!! problem solved. And as Jason says, Go over it from start to finish and check everything like a maniac! you would be surprised how easily water can get in!! Lara
  18. Unfortunately forces everyone to fit trackers to their pride and joy! I have one on mine even though it is kept inside the workshop every night, which it's self is in a locked compound !! A real shame we have to live with these scum!! Lara
  19. And it has no temp sensor as standard, You need to weld a boss into the sump. Lara
  20. Now you sound like me and Derbyshire? Too far up Noorf for me to imagine the poverty and degradation! That cross-member should pass with flying colours anywhere norf of Watford Lara
  21. Drive to Devon 4x4 and get them to fit one of there fancy things! Reasons, 1, Bloody good quality, 2, Let them do the hard and dirty work, 3, Cheap for what you get!! Problem solved. And "any" chassis rot like that on a vehicle with a separate chassis should be an MOT fail. Think about it, especially in a crash! Lara
  22. Your Avatar makes you look like a best friend I used to have, Can't think of his name now but his last name was Mann I think We used to have great discussions Lara
  23. That has got to be the best looking and best prepared "Landrover" inspired vehicle I have ever seen!!!! Well done D&G Tuning on a fantastic vehicle! AGAIN! We should have a "SEXY TRUCKS" thread with all the nice goodies in Lara
  24. My 90 uses about 11L/100km (about 20 mpg) when I drive carefully, and about 13 when I cruise at about 80mph on motorways, (don't ask about full throttle, you do not want to know) My Mercedes Vito does about 7L/100km careful driving and about 11 to 12 when driven hard, trouble is that I always drive the Vito hard and just want to get wherever as fast as possible! I almost never drive the Landy hard! Just enjoy driving it everywhere! Not much difference, but I enjoy the Landy more and am probably safer on the road in the Landy, for me and for others. Lara
  25. It's not an argument, just a different way of explaining the same meaning really P.S. The Aquamist system is a good aftermarket kit, can be improved on but is a very good start. Lara
