  1. The key switch turns a rod which then turns that switch, so no. It looks like you've just got the switch. It should fit on your existing key switch body with infuriatingly tiny screws
  2. And why do you want to diagnose it? What problem are you having?
  3. I do not recognise a solid red wire on the back of the ignition switch. Is it a DIY "fix" someone has put in that now has a bad connection where it joins the loom?
  4. The quality of that evidence makes this springs to mind...
  5. It's a Land Rover, anything is possible! I would start at the battery and work forwards from there towards the ignition switch.
  6. The thick red wire positive feed from the battery goes to the starter motor solenoid with the other brown wires running from there for the other circuits. If this connection is dirty/loose then you could get intermittent electrical problems.
  7. This is what the guy in the video said on the subject of egt sensor....
  8. This is an informative video on a boost pin here. I think it's always wise to fit an egt monitor when fiddling about as it's a good indicator to let you know when you are pushing things too much before something goes wrong.
  9. What do you mean? It was lovely and sunny for a whole 90 minutes last week whilst I drove home from my break in Yealmpton
  10. I agree with you entirely about those who deliberately don't pay but still use the road, it isn't fair on the rest of us who do the right thing. That said though the case described here does not fall into this category and is a great illustration that any potential case picked up by whatever means should be properly investigated and checked to make sure it isn't an administrative cock up or as in this case an error before any accusations are made to an innocent motorist. Or as an alternative, get rid of the current UK road tax system as it is and add a small additional charge to fuel, that way the more you use the more you contribute (or vice versa for those of us who have a land rover for occasional use) and it removes the need for checking. Although I can't see that happening as we like to make things complicated.
  11. As a fellow motor enthusiast and tax payer, it makes me so mad to hear things like this that it is extremely difficult for me to moderate my own language to stay within forum rules. I will try nonetheless! In my opinion it's lazy policing in the extreme. It's a good and sensible suggestion above to remove numberplates to prevent this Tom foolery, but why the hell should an honest person have to do this when the car is legally parked on your own ground?! If they actually bothered to get off their backsides and check some very basic facts and ask some simple questions once your vehicle had been flagged for whatever reason and saw your vehicle in an obviously unable to drive condition it would stop them wasting yours and their time. But oh no, "just send him a letter, he must be guilty if our computer has flagged the numberplate". If they do have reason to believe someone is using a car they should be able to provide solid photographic evidence rather (God knows there's enough cameras stuck all over the place) than relying on ANPR from a passing car or one or two nosey neighbors. There. *%#!ing rant over! I'm now going to have a nice relaxing cup of tea to calm the *#%! down.
  12. A new one could also save you trouble in the future. I made my own, it wasn't difficult to do and was cheaper than buying one ready made.
  13. As long as it isn't aluminum, mix up a batch of caustic soda. That stuff will strip off the coating. Just be very careful with your hands, face and eyes.
  14. Nowt strange about that on a day like today!
  15. Staying down near Yealmpton, it was a rough old drive down here. Got a large pack of cider and a the wood burner on, so going to let the storm pass me by.
  16. I'm in a lot of trouble as I delayed our departure to our half term break in Devon as I insisted I spend an hour to get it running this morning before we left so I can relax knowing it works with no issues!
  17. It lives! It must have been rough before as the thing that I noticed most was how sweet it was ticking over.
  18. .... And just like land rovers, never attempt to add up what you have spent on them over the years
  19. Personally I would go up a size. According to autosparks website the size you mention is rated at 45amp which I understand to be insufficient for the load from the glow plugs on a 19J
  20. I would use this, and to make life easy for your future self, stick to the original wiring colour from the dropdown menu
  21. I've taken Thursday/Friday off work to get my 19J back together and running again. Then I'm back at the start of 2020 project wise.
  22. Good recommendation Ralph, I just checked online and its available a little cheaper...
  23. Great work, it has made me a little frustrated that I'm away with work whilst my 19J is sat at home in bits and I can't put it back together for a few weeks
  24. I'm afraid I can only show you one to avoid. It's a pitty because they are made from a good quality material at a reasonable price and feel nice. Unfortunately they don't fit standard defender 90/110 seats well, they don't gather up at the bottom sufficiently.
  25. I think the exhaust mounts are different on a 300tdi exhaust than that on a TD system.
