  1. I was thinking a electric one, like the one in Si's first post actually
  2. this might help... maybe.. i dont know http://www.pangolin4x4.com/pangolin4x4/reference/lib/winches/winches.html
  3. That is rather cunning! More complex that i had hoped for, but non the less a brilliant idea that could be suited to any winch freespool... You should make a 8274 freespool
  4. Simon, I'd love to read more on how your electric free-spool works, It doesn't look so difficult to make, but Im guessing you need to use 12volts to move the freespool then 6 (im guessing) to hold it, and it springs back into position when at 0volts. I wish i had a CNC lathe and phosphor bronze in my workshop
  5. I wouldn't worry about no wireing or solenoids as you will want an albright anyway, and the wiring wont be made to suit you or your vehicle. but 100quid max spent on electrics. You will more than likely need a new motor - 300quid for a good one. The rest of it, well check the 8274 casing for cracks etc, whip the top casing off the winch (3 allen bolts) and look for stripped teeth on the gears. Dont let it hold you back tho, EVERYTHING can be replaced and generally improved and you can end up with a much improved 8274 for less money than a new one. I currently have a 1980ish 8274 which i have rebuilt top to bottom for about ~200quid, its now slightly uprated over a standard winch and stands me at about 800quid. Im looking out for a bow2 motor now to give it some balls
  6. Just seen this, and I've never seen one with a free spool quite like it clicky linky
  7. This might sound crazy... but perhaps try rubbing a tub of cheap margerine into the stain, and then using fairy liquid to remove it. (This is what my mum does when i get my clothes oily) Sounds silly, but it might just work, and its cheap!
  8. basically, according to that diagram, you just wire it through a relay with a 20amp fuse....right? Making a loom for that is only a 30min job tops!
  9. The engine mounts will need changing again for a 2.5diesel The bulkheads all have the same fitting ala 200 and 300/td5 and even puma versions are the same fitment aswell i think. Your putting a new chassis under a vehical, no IVA is required IMHO. You always could... but to be honest id live without it and im certianly far from living life on the edge, i like to do everything safe
  10. Why not, its quite interesting really... besides it might have someone on the forums and would be nice to know youve been "spotted"
  11. Seen that bad boy on ebay probably a year ago now, its very smart IMHO!
  12. I think the "red star" thing they have on pirate is a good idea, And on pirate red star members actually do have priviliges over standard members. I think thats another incentive to pay, normal members can still ask questions etc but not post pictures directly to the board. Paypalling some moneys right now Ive learnt SO much off these forums which is totally invaluble to me now, I spend literally hours on here everyday reading everything i can to quench my thirst for LR knowledge!
  13. Thats REALLY really cheap!! I was paying 3grand on a standard discovery L reg 200tdi :/ Im paying a little over 1500 for a TD5 90 now with NFU Which is good as ill have full no-claims in a couple of years (as long as i dont crash, obviously)
  14. That UJ isnt even that bad! ive been driving my disco for ages with one much worse!!
  15. I'm afraid the defender is hopeless, It just cannot compete with jap double cab pick ups. Just look at the prices of a double cab pickup compared to a double cab 110, then take into account that a jap pickup has nice cruising speeds, very comftable and are just as capable offroad in standard form (generally better because they have LSD's) I'm certainly considering buying a nissan/toyota after my td5 90. Landrovers are the love of my life, and always will be, but they are really really really carp.
  16. That is a VERY VERY sensible idea, I will certainly do that, i value my life! Im 19 ive got things to do yet! Hmm yes... pallet tines on the Skid steer will come into play i think! Cheers chaps!
  17. Will a 200tdi def/disco engine fit through the rear door on my 90? Fancying buying a project engine to learn on and hopefully have a nicely rebuilt engine at the end of it, just wondering how to get it home as i have no trailer license (yet!) So really, will it fit through the rear door with alt and power steering pump etc and then will is it short enough to fit in my 90 van back tub? cheers!
  18. Thanks for the replys, I jumped into it thismorning before work and it started straight up! Ill know for next time!! Thanks!
  19. Been running my TD5 for 10 months now, never had a problem! Tonight i went to help someone take a battery off a van to be charged up, so i had my rear work lights aimed at their bonnet, after about 20 mins i jumped back in my 90 (engine off, ignition off) and tried to start it, fuel pump started whirring but it wouldnt turn over and the engine management light started flashing (engine with a line through symbol) So i was like bugger i killed my battery, so i got my friend with his 90 to tow me and tried to bump it, it will run whilst being towed but i cant keep it running. Then i tried it again and now my engine turns over perfectly fast, so my battery isnt dead, but it just wont fire!! What the hell have i done to it? Ive currently towed it home and parked it outside
  20. I believe a petrol engine is only 26% (?) efficient, meaning only 26% of your fuel is actually converted into a rotating motion, the rest is noise and heat! A diesel is a better 36% (?) (my percentages seems wrong... but there very close, its a long time since i learnt about this at uni! and i was hungover or drunk most of my uni life)
  21. It is highly likely that it will go back to 135, PRESS IT AND SEE!!!! And second thoughts, this DOES teach you to not poke at things that you don't understand
  22. 12 grand tho... I understand its fully rebuilt on a galv chassis.... i hate that paint!
