  1. Right, I'm currently trying to fathom out what components I need to run two (eventually) hydraulic winches and hydraulic steering. I've read Bull Bar Cowboys milemarker threads, and spent a lot of time on Pirate 4x4 but Im still a little clueless. I dont know what kind of hydraulic winch I actually want yet, This one from Red Winches looks good. But then again I could go milemarker for less money. And what really throws a spanner in the works is me wanting hydraulic steering. (My vehicle IS NOT road legal in anyway, nor will it ever be.) I understand from the FirstFour website that 26cc is acceptable to run a MM and Red winch, but I would want it to be faster than standard and to be able to run hydraulic steering simultaneously. So what kind of pump can stand up to the full rev range of a 200tdi? (It will be either mini prop or toothed belt driven) How would I make my steering more predictable? Kind of hoping a Hydraulics Guru will help me out
  2. When I used to run a discovery with the standard front bumper cut off about an inche either side of the chassis rails, a police man stopped me and some friends and inspected our vehicles and ran out plates etc. He told me that it wasnt illegal to do it, but you have to make sure it has a 30 degree (i THINK) radius as so if you were to hit a pedestrian it wouldn't cut them, just knock them down thus have more chance of survival. its the reason why standard defender bumpers are rounded at the ends.
  3. surely you've just read this thread?
  4. MOG, everyones seen worlds strongest man, there are plenty of people in the world whom can pull a lorry with sheer body strength. Ofcourse i landrover can pull a 12tonne lorry on the flat, infact it wouldnt take much BHP at all (i forget the maths i learnt at uni) But when people fantasise about pulling a 40tonne "fully loaded" lorry UP hill on sheet ice... well ive drive my 90 on enough sheet ice to know it can barely pull itself up it. This isnt a argument of power, because i appreciate a landy would pull a loaded artic on the flat, in low range... maybe A wouldnt be able to get sufficient traction to pull a 40tonne artic up hill - no way. 2ton landy pulling 40ton lorry? errr no. Some people on these forums live in fairy land!!
  5. What was the outcome then? Im currently looking at full hydro as I want to lose all the annoying mechanical linkage. And ive been thinking, if im going to have a hydraulic pump, i meres will have hydraulic winches aswell. What pumps should i be looking at? to go on the crank of a front engined 200tdi?
  6. I would happily pay to see a 3.5v8 tow a 40t lorry up a hill backwards. Im sorry, thats absolute codswallop!
  7. Right, So the actual axle casings on a 1993 200tdi disco and a later model 300tdi 24spline disco are the same casing, but have different hubs stubs half shafts and diffs.. I think ill just buy the full axles instead of being lazy and just swapping internals cheers Ralph cheers Nige!!
  8. Just a quick question, will 24spline shafts and diff fit in a 1993 10spline disc braked axle? And, do old style 3 door RRC 10 spline shafts and diff fit in later metric 1992 drum braked axles? (The first question is the one I really need answering! Cheers!
  9. I know what you mean... and the gauge all being well will go up
  10. Yeah they really are very very good lights, you see them quite a lot on the back of lorries.
  11. I have two of these on the back of my hardtop 90, they are incredibly useful for barbecues, backing up to trailers, shining in peoples eyes that mainbeam you from behind, saying hello to my friends.
  12. i know this isnt a english website, but something like these? clicky linky!
  13. You test a diesel at flat out dont you? I bet they just tapped the numberplate into the little machine and followed the instructions that came up. To be honest I think you went to an MOT centre where the tester was clearly stupid.
  14. I have a protools 105 with a 50.8mm die, bends cages up lovely!
  15. If it didn't have a silly floor (or maybe a flaw) then I think it is particularly good looking!!
  16. I have a 80 200tdi with rear radiator! i will watch this with interest!!
  17. Id say axles and drive lines are worth more than scrap, and definitely worth keeping, or selling off individually as these will sell reasonably fast. The rest of the vehicles take a longer time to sell as and when people want them. but if you have the space to hang onto them for a while can be worth a few more quid than scrap! Last time i took some RRC alloys to the scrappers i got 11 quid a rim! But then again ive seen people selling and GETTING 100quid for a set of 4! I guess its all on if someone wants the parts and if you have time to hang onto them to get the best prices!
  18. a decent set of ratchet spanners and torque wrench would be insanely handy!
  19. Uhmmm... I always thought US sherrifs carried around a jerry can of coke in the back of there cars to remove blood stains and other such things. You can use it to remove the "chocolate marks" from your toilet bowl!
  20. Or you can attach them to your reply... it then puts them on the LR4x4 gallery if im correct!
  21. that possibly the quickest MS question and reply and everything working nicely thread ive ever seen...
