  1. I guess it probably did happen, but he didn't know what the problem was only that it wouldn't go - this was 12 years ago and immobilisers on Land Rovers were a new fangled thing to people then
  2. Buy some flexible exhaust pipe and route it outside from the V8
  3. No - so don't do what somebody I know once did and tow a vehicle for miles off road because the bloody thing wouldn't start. Because he had taken the fob off the keyring and put it in the cubby box because the rattle was annoying him then stopped for a while and found it wouldn't go
  4. Hear hear. What Lara and Nigel said above. Hindsight is the most useless attribute known to man, what might have happened if this or that had or hadn't been done will not change the terrible reality.
  5. Not really. There are the inevitable idiots around but not many wikkid XR2is with dustbin exhausts - the potholes in the road would rip them off
  6. I wouldn't assume that is the case any more than I would assume that all firearms officers are a good shot. Some of the former specialist vehicle examiners in the force here were trained by UK police to the UK qualified standard and I can tell you that in some cases they didn't know their posterior from their elbow on some matters, but nevertheless they presumably passed the exams! I agree with the observation that whether the calipers were different sizes and whether they affected the braking adversely are two different things. They clearly shouldn't have been, but whether they contributed to the accident MAY have been a different thing entirely. J@mes I think you have got the wrong end of the stick about "censorship", the forum moderators are keen to ensure it does not degenerate into a slanging match especially given the fact that Gresh is known to a great many forum members. That is all.
  7. Not necessarily - of the 10 or so I have been into there have been 3 or 4 different places for the dot, depends on how the thing is assembled I think
  8. Drifting usually involves hitting something with a big f***off hammer so maybe you should try that and see if he thinks it is still a good idea!
  9. Hyundai DHY6000SE now ordered - initial impressions to follow when I get it, which will be, oh, late February some time.... Not sure how the hell I am going to get it into the back of the vehicle though as it weighs 175kg!
  10. That change is just because of the jump in voltage when the glow plugs switch off
  11. And the sensors pack up too. In fact the main role of the warning light is to indicate the sensor is broken....
  12. Buy an "OEM" one from somebody like Bearmach these are the same as genuine but without the expensive green and white box. Likely to be about half the price. AFAIK there isn't a "better" one - not sure if anybody has tried making a Polybush one or not!
  13. Also check if there is a crash switch on the bulkhead in the engine bay, I think this works by cutting off the fuel pump on a V8
  14. If its got a normal alarm/immob system check out the post in the tech archive regarding the alarm spider, AFAIK the spider also controls a feed to the fuel pump so if it is intermittent it could be early signs of that.
  15. That's a very good point - unless the two weren't rotating concentrically (which could only happen if the holes in the flywheel were in the wrong place!) there shouldn't be an issue!
  16. I think as you say the flasher unit and relay are all in one, not 100% sure about the Discovery 1 but I expect it uses the same system as older vehicles.
  17. Ta, but I can't collect and even if you could deliver, believe me you don't want to do the paperwork for export of dangerous goods (fuel in the tank... even traces of it on a brand new generator = full dangerous cargo paperwork required, stupid bloody EU HSE regulations )
  18. It's an old bulletin (1996) so maybe they don't do it any more. I'd never heard of it anyway. And vibration on a Tdi is kind of standard when the engine is running
  19. I wouldn't dream of using something with a 3000kg breaking strain! 24mm nylon which is a suitable tow rope has a breaking strain of 12000kg... You are right about the "except peat" bit though
  20. I wouldn't be buggering around with assuming they "forgot" I'd go straight to the police, though these days they probably can't be bothered to do anything about it anyway. How about an anonymous report that they are terrorists
  21. Another vote for not wasting your beans on Prestolite!
  22. What goes wrong with a spraygun? Hole in the bottom....?
