  1. The stuff we use in them is Magnatec 5w30 A1 see here http://www.castrol.com/castrol/productdeta...ntentId=7027374 it meets the B1 spec which is what the Discovery 3 needs - workshop manual says "Use 5W/30 oil to specification WSS-M2C-913B meeting ACEA B1/B3"
  2. I *think* it looks much like a cat but I honestly don't know
  3. Rustproofing discussions have "a bit of history" on this forum, I suggest you do a search, most of it I think is in the International forum rather than this one.
  4. Thanks for that Ralph & Tim, will look into those. What are the pros and cons of a screw compressor for workshop use? I guess price is the con, which may rule it out. A conventional unit has done everything we need to date, and I'm guessing that the old one is probably not quite producing its original design output given the age and the fact it has been invaded once so a new one of the same output ought to be better. Trouble is its got me thinking about whether I need to replace my 25L Draper one at home now
  5. Al what is your 150L SIP version - is it one of these? http://www.diytools.co.uk/diy/Main/sp-1-73...essor-06699.asp Just that I have been looking at one of those for my own use recently and wondered if it was OK.
  6. 255/55R18 Grabber AT2 would be the standard equivalent, there is also a 255/60R18 version that is intended for the D3 but should also fit and would be a bit taller. I don't think you would find much else in 18in to fit, the AT2s are available in 2 wider sizes if you look here http://www.4site4x4.co.uk/tyre-details.aspx?id=6 but I have my doubts if they would fit on a D2 without surgery!
  7. I've actually just been thinking the same thing and sent an email to Ingersoll-Rand but I have no idea how the costs compare, and price will be an issue as the controllers of beans will inevitably dig their oar in top whack for the first cost is going to be around the £2000 mark and freight will add to that. There's an Ingersoll BD7-270 which is the same spec as the one we have but I've not been able to find a price anywhere on Google. I don't expect the new one to last another 27 years though, they probably don't build stuff like that now Problems with the old one - everything really, compressor unit is "a bit knackered" and leaks oil like a sieve, its all starting to sound a bit tired and I have some significant reservations about the internal state of the receiver after 27 years of having moisture sitting in the bottom of it The main reason for replacing it now is that we can't afford to wait for it to go pop (and if it literally went pop it would probably wipe out whoever was using the ramp next to it) as it will take 2 months to source a replacement ex UK and as the business includes a lot of tyre fitting and repair, we'd be right royally screwed without it...!
  8. We need a new workshop compressor at work, the old was was made in 1981 and probably doesn't owe us anything Current unit is an Ingersoll-Rand industrial, exact output unknown but a 5.5KW motor (which is about 7.5HP) and a 270L receiver, and is quite adequate for the needs but just suffering from the ravages of old age. After a chug around Google I have three units on the shortlist: - Sealey 270L/7.5HP http://www.northerntooluk.com/products.asp?partno=3027E - SIP 200L/7.5HP http://www.aircompressors.co.uk/airmateprof.php - SIP 270L/10.0HP same page as the 7.5HP. Has anybody got anything good or bad to say about any of these, or know of any other good deals going at the moment? Needs to be a good quality brand, biggest not necessarily best (but around the above specs), readily available ex stock and if it is on special offer at the moment then so much the better No Ebay links please, ta.
  9. www.landrovertechinfo.com Have your credit card primed, but its all on there, same info as dealers have
  10. Very cruel Les - still it will increase the number of site hits on that link by about 100 times just with the people going for a look
  11. Would make a change from smacking his head/elbow/ankle on the lathe/vice/milling machine etc
  12. Another way to tell is that the tubeless rims have a TR13 hole (same as a white 8 spoke etc) and if tubed will have a skinny valve, the proper tube type rims have the bigger TR15 hole for the fat valve inner tubes.
  13. There used to be something called "angel eyes" advertised in LRO and I think the idea was that a ring of LEDs around the main light unit acted as a sidelight. Or maybe it was supposed to look "cool". Either way I thought they were pretty hideous, but they might do the job if still available?
  14. True.... ...but it still looks awful, like the vehicle had a coat of primer and they forgot the top coat
  15. If it has a 300Tdi then it isn't a 2007 build as they stopped building the 300Tdi/Td5 in 2006... there are still old stock vehicles available, but they are 06 model year, like mine (also purchased in 2007). In which case I am 99% sure it will be Chawton White but PM me the VIN anyway... Mo, Keswick Green is code LRC799, though why you would want to mix any up I can't imagine, as it looks like a mistake to start with
  16. If it is a 2007 build Puma the body colour will either be Chawton White or Alaska White but if its a Puma it could be either I think, I'm not sure when they changed Alaska is now the current colour for new Pumas but I don't know when it changed and I couldn't tell them apart to look at. The difference is that Alaska White has tiny metallic specks in it that are made in the shape of some insane Yank woman brandishing a gun while trying to get elected I don't know if the rims are even the same paint colour as the bodywork so if it is just to spray wheels I doubt you could tell the difference If you PM me the full VIN number I might be able to find out
  17. The best generators are the old sort with brushes, there is some truth in the fact that generators don't like welders but it is the newer brushless alternators with an electronic AVR (automatic voltage regulator), the 20+ year old Lister HR2 brushed generator in the farm workshop is quite happy with welding though I guess they will be getting pretty thin on the ground these days!
  18. ROW colours are exactly the same as standard UK market colours, age for age. There may be the odd ones that are different for some of the market special editions like the NAS 90s and things (Borrego Yellow springs to mind, don't think that has ever been on other vehicles) but ROW markets don't really have those. Your choices include Alpine White for the 90s, Chawton White for the Noughties, and Alaska white on the very latest vehicles, plus a few older ones - how old is the vehicle?
  19. AFAIK some do some don't - I don't think ours do here. Lots of wind gets rid of the particulars
  20. I just fitted a new rad core to my 110 which came from Bearmach, it was a bit more than £100 but I don't know what their UK prices are, there's a significant freight element getting stuff here. It was all metal and seemed well made, only required due to in incident with "non stretch synthetic winch rope"
  21. It's carp just now, 1010 UK time I think, just taken me >5 minutes to get several Firefox tabs saying IPS Driver Error and then several more minutes to actually get the ruddy pages loaded
  22. A bit of searching turned up this thread http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=22250 this is also interesting http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/enginePwrSpecs.htm though it doesn't answer the question you have If all else fails Turner Engineering must have a pretty good idea as they ship the things around all the time, might be worth giving them a call? Hope this helps
  23. Today is the first time it has been playing up here, has been completely useless all morning. WAKEY WAKEY INVISION!!!
  24. No - 15 inch tyres will not fit on a 16 inch rim full stop! The equivalent size (i.e. width and height of tyre) for a 16in rim is 305/70R16 but these are really too wide for a 7x16 rim, you would need at least an 8 inch wide rim and most manufacturers specify minimum 8.5in
  25. I'm having problems here now too, hadn't been in previous days but got "IPS Driver Error" this morning at about 0700 local (about 1000 in the UK) couldn't get any response at all so gave up.
