  1. I seem to say this a lot these days (no I am not on commission!) but also check out the Grabber AT2 which is available in the 235/70R16 size. 16" Discovery steel and alloy rims are all the same size - 7x16 - so will be fine with these tyres.
  2. The life of bushes on a D2 axle is vastly superior to any Defender axle setup, and thats coming from a place where replacing suspension bushes is a way of life even for vehicles that don't go off the road bushes on all the D2s I deal with last for ever compared to anything else so if the axles "eat them" there must be something wrong with the way they are set up because they shouldn't. My D2 is still on the original bushes at 38k miles, most Defenders will be just about ready for their second set of most bushes and their third or fourth set of radius arm bushes by that stage.
  3. Depending on what style of wheel it is, a small Stilson can work wonders too Doesn't work with the ones where the nut is recessed into the wheel though.
  4. Because part of the regulator unit is a diode pack which stops the current leaking through the alternator when the engine is off and if this doesn't work properly, current can flow in the wrong direction which flattens the battery. Not an uncommon problem.
  5. Let's see some picshers when you are done
  6. Don't get too cut up about it, I took about six months to fit mine
  7. I think they are usually about 55-58kg/hr here but that could be due to the difference in ambient temp between Jim & I! When they "go" the reading usually drops to low 50s or high 40s (again, readings here) accompanied by a considerable loss of power and no fault code being logged. Possibly if the reading is completely silly like 4kg/hr the ECU recognises that fact and discounts the airflow reading completely just reverting to a default value for fuelling based on engine revs and pedal setting, I don't know but Porny probably will. Maybe the Rovacon is the problem, can't say I have tried one of those, my experience is only on a T4/IDS because I am spawn of Satan
  8. Mine too but I suspect he has one of the later D2s with the horrid frog eyed headlights, I've not tried doing it on one of those. Given the cost of the headlights they probably are glued, welded, riveted, screwed and taped into place so nobody can filch them
  9. Assuming the 98 is a Tdi (they started selling 99MY D2's in 98...) and the 04 will be a D2, probably not without some modification though it might be possible to modify it - though I don't know when the type approval regulations came into effect for tow hitches, best check those as well (even if it will fit, if you have a prang and have the wrong hitch fitted without the right type approval, you might find the insurance ain't worth the paper it is written on...)
  10. I have just ordered a LED Lenser from Amazon, same as the above link, however it will take rather longer to get here
  11. Could be. A slim 36mm spanner is what is needed for the fan, available from Halfords for about a tenner, the special tool bit is only required if some numpty has done the nut up stupidly tight and is then needed to lock the pulley but you could probably improvise something. Done up sensibly, the tension of the belt on the pulley will hold it.
  12. Sadly the most likely cause of excess pressure like that is a blown head gasket and nothing to do with the water pump
  13. Not sure what bolt you refer to but if it is one of the bits tasked with holding 2 tons in the air I think I'd fit the right bit as the darned things are dangerous enough even when they aren't bodged up
  14. To save money in the factory they use the cut-outs to make other small gaskets (allegedly )
  15. MY - Model Year as said also NAS - North American Spec - vehicles destined for the peculiar regulations of the goldarned US of A ROW - Rest Of World (spec) - export spec vehicles which are generally basic and not EU compliant with regard to emissions etc
  16. Don't know about a 200Tdi one but you can get a non cat 300 front pipe which certainly does
  17. We put one of them Browns gas generators in the server As you might expect it didn't work, page not found errors again a moment ago
  18. Normally the 2 taller ones would be on the back - how much taller are they? Sometimes springs are left/right handed but you can probably tell by the spring thicknesses, the rear ones will be thicker diameter coils.
  19. Radio code will be needed (if active - mine doesn't have one) - nothing else to worry about. You may need to resync the alarm plips by pressing the unlock button several times but that is all. Charging it in the car is perfectly safe if practical - I charge my boat parked outside by keeping the charger in the garage and running a 12V DC lead outside to the boat, voltage drop is insignificant if using a decent gauge lead (I used some cast off hi-fi speaker cable) even on the end of about 30ft of cable.
  20. Mine too, but it was on std height springs. As you said it is a tiny mod takes 10 min with a sharp set of tin snips and is invisible to all but the anorakiest Fairy lovers
  21. Am I right in saying there are both Thor and GEMS versions of the 4.6? I don't know the answer to either but if there are 2 sorts the answer might be different
  22. Ah OK, I thought you were complaining that you couldn't access it with the ignition off... sorry
  23. That's normal, you have to have the ignition on to diagnose most systems otherwise if they were on all the time you'd spend a lot of time with a battery charger
