  1. You need a Testbook to reset the fault code, no other way and it will not self-clear even if the fault has gone. If there is a fault, most likely cause is the coupler in the steering wheel which will sting you to the tune of £200 plus to replace!
  2. The D2 is probably more reliable as a whole vehicle (certainly mine is compared to my old D1) just that if you get a problem there is a higher chance of it needing specialist attention because there are far more ECU's involved. It is not a reason to be completely put off buying one unless you really WANT something to tinker with on the weekends
  3. Not sure if the play really shows up in the double joint - we had one a while back which let go and had only been serviced about 3 weeks previously with no sign of the problem then.
  4. Er, yeah We have had "a few" though the problems with the early ones seem to have largely settled down now, there are only the odd ones here and there. There have been at least 2 on brand new vehicles that I can think of! We have changed 2 Salis diffs in 12 years I have been at my current job, on vehicles of any age.
  5. You might get away with it - try it and see, the D2 only has 2 height sensors not like the D3 which has four and compares notes and if one is not reading right with the others it has a hissy fit! Calibrating D3 air suspension is a PITA even with the right kit as it has to be +/- about 2mm to accept the calibration. If it fails, put the old sensor back on and take it to somebody with a computer.
  6. What does the double joint on the front prop feel like? These can cause noises, usually just before you get an expensive bang and a rearranged floor...
  7. If I could get a D2 for £5000 I would probably buy another one I certainly wouldn't sell mine for that... 88000km is nothing - there are D2s here with 150,000 MILES on with few problems.
  8. Edited to say I disagree with some of mmgemini's points 1. Change to the Wolf axle was with the 2002 model year, early 99-01 Td5s had the Salisbury rear axle fitted because we've got a few at work. The new axle came in at the same time as the new dash with the big square box for the radio, switches etc. and at the same time there were other minor changes to brakes, panhard rod and probably some other tweaks which I forget. Disc brakes on the rear axle came in for the last 9000 or so late production 200Tdi Defenders from (guessing) some time in 1993, and from then onwards, all 300Tdis and Td5s have discs all round. You will find a late 300Tdi with the new Wolf rear axle fitted, because I have got one, but by "late" I am talking about 2006 export spec 300Tdi, not anything available in the UK 2. Under the back on all of them, plastic tank on later models which is better/worse in various respects. Underseat tank not possible/easy on 1999 onwards Td5 models due to underseat ECU and fuse box! 3. No
  9. Both possible. Does it cut out when running, or just not start? Usually if the AFM is playing up it causes a power loss rather than a non start though. You could try unplugging it completely because the computer will use default airflow readings for working out the fuelling so it should go - I had one in the garage the other day with a completely dead AFM and it ran fine! The AFM needs to be checked with a diagnostic computer by somebody who knows what readings to expect, the starter motor is nothing that can be picked up by any way other that substituting a known good one and see if it makes any difference. No fault codes show up with this one. You can also rule out the starter by tow starting it, but whether that will prove anything depends on how often it plays up!
  10. Looks like pretty patterns of rust to me
  11. As per profile on the left look it up on Google Earth! <-----
  12. YES - as per my post above! I couldn't find it either but I just ordered 20 so I hope they exist... We have got some SAG's in stock but I fear the shipping would be a little prohibitive
  13. I doubt it, there isn't on most new engines, it is probably a dump and replace job
  14. Just as bad would be nearer the mark - the genuine Td5 starters are rubbish! I doubt the Britpart ones would be much worse TBH Worth checking the contacts in the solenoid first, details are in the tech archive.
  15. Welcome I don't know much about Japanese market vehicles either but I think they tend to be a fairly high spec like the NAS vehicles. I don't know if you will find much information on vehicles in your part of the world as I don't know if they are many (or any) users from Japan on here - most are UK and Europe based.
  16. Are you 100% sure it is not a misfire e.g. from the injector harness issue? This causes a "pronounced vibration" - plug it into a diagnostic and check the injector balancing which should be a giveaway if one is off the scale. I have not done the job personally but I think it should be possible just a bit more to disconnect etc. The Td5 has a big cast fork which should not need doing (it is actually the same part no as a Series 3 fork!) but as always, inspect everything carefully and replace where in doubt. The box would be easier to do in a Discovery but as you say it really needs a ramp and a transmission jack.
  17. In some hot countries the only colour to have is white!
  18. It's to keep the "sticker price" down for the adverts, so you can say "Discovery 3 - From £24995" for example. "From" is a big word in car adverts containing prices and it loosely translates to "for the Sh&^ model that nobody will buy with plastic seats, rusty wheels, skinny tyres and white paint"
  19. If you do a search the subject has been covered 100 times before... The short answer is no if you are looking for a straight fit.
  20. Your posts are being posted, just not immediately as they are on mod approval and thus they have to wait till I get out of bed
  21. I tried to get one and failed - if you find one please post up! Alfred Murray can quote for bits by description because I asked about some new end castings for mine after all the paint fell off.
  22. No it is a steaming pile of rabbit droppings I personally don't like "Landy" either and I certainly do not own either a Landy or a Disco I might however have a couple of Rovers which is acceptable... Basically if somebody is starting to talk like a surfer, then they would probably fit in better elsewhere and I could think of a website that has degenerated to a suitable level if anybody needs pointing in the right direction
  23. There is, though it is a copy of the Firestone SAT apparently rather than the SAG. I found this out a couple of weeks ago when I tried to order some at work, the suppliers said that General had discontinued the SAG. They were good from what I have heard from those using them, but the wear rate on road was nearly as scary as the noise I always thought it was a shame they didn't do the SAG pattern scaled up to something like 33x12.50R15
  24. EXTREME TEAM changed to "Bunch o' posin' ******* in a truck paid for by somebody else"
