  1. Either that or purchase new ones, they are so cheap. If they have been dramatically thinned out due to rust then I would buy new ones, while you have it apart. I have heard of spring seats collapsing when really rusty
  2. The 200tdi snorkels only seal to the wing, then you need to seal the original wing air intake plastic to the inside of the wing, and ensure the original plastic is sealed all the way to the air box. The 300tdi snorkels have an extra pipe which comes through the wing (Therefore you do not need to seal it to the wing, only mount it to the wing) and you then simply jubilee clip it to the standard intake pipe (removing the original plastic 'box')
  3. I need the centre panel from a td5 dash. It would be the silver plastic bit in this picture but black or silver would be fine
  4. You will need to measure the resistance of the bearings. You can increase resistance by using less shims, or decrease resistance using more shims. To measure resistance, you need a spring balance (fishermans scales) which, before putting the oil seal back on, you will clip to the track rod mount on the hub and measure the resistance to turning the swivel on the spring balance.   5. I do have no claims on my other policy with my Alfa. But I declared zero years no claims with this one.. Crazy. Like I said I feel like I've robbed them!! I asked him to repeat the quote about three times! then I said '..and that's for a year?!' Hopefully they pay quickly and without arguement if I ever need it....
  6. I'm kind of in shock.... after rebuilding my Land Rover I was thinking I would need special insurance, that it would be expensive, that if I wanted an agreed value, they would rip me off. Well after reading the latest threads about insurance on here and that many people were being charged through the nose, I thought I'd start ringing the suggested insurers. First one on the list was Footman James... So to back track a little, I am 25, had my license for 7 years.. No claims or convictions. I live in a smallish town in Wiltshire and park the car on my driveway... I have now taken out fully comp cover with them (the first I rang), with unlimited milage, Third party cover on other cars, agreed £9000 value, legal cover, breakdown cover, euro cover, and all mods listed... £135.52 Daylight robbery (but the good kind)

  9. If it's the tool box (driver's side) I have the part u are looking for to repair. It's what I removed from a TD5 seat box, as the fuel tank goes there on mine. It's yours for a modest forum donation?
  10. Hi chaps taken the wiring out and yes there is the wiring for the fog on both sides! So not too bad. Does anyone know what colour the wires should be for the reverse light? Whilst not required for the MOT it would be good to sort it. Thanks again all
  11. Seconded... most of the time it's wheel bearings. You should feel NO play.
  12. standard replacement will be fine... I did buy a kit recently for £50 which included all three turbo pipes. The blue/red/green ones are silicone replacements. However, you can also get black silicone...

  16. Hi All, I failed my first MOT after my rebuild. Nothing massive, but apparently I have put the fog light on the wrong side?!? I am confused by this as the wire for the fog light is on the same branch of the loom as the wire for the left hand indicator! Therefore how could the fog be on the right?? Have I routed the loom incorrectly all the way from the front bulkhead? The wiring for the back does go along the right hand chassis rail right? Does anyone have anything which might help? I am looking at taking all of the electrics out of the back all over again! a pic to clarify my words(!):

  18. I bought mine from Yan the landyman... He told me mine was rock solid too.. Bought it two years ago and since have replace pretty much everything... Including finally, the entire chassis... BUYER BEWARE>>>
  19. I pay £350 p/month for around 100sq/meters. A farmer leases the building around 2mins from where I work. Electric is metered but cheap enough, water is on a stading charge @ £50 p/quarter. I saw the farm and asked if he would like to rent out one of the barns... he has since let out all of the barns and is making a business out of it. I am also charged business rates, which really annoys me as I am NOT a business! You may need to, depending on the farmer and the council! Don't forget to ask. I would suggest that, regardless of how good a friends you have, you find a workshop space on your own. Many projects take up an exponential amount of space (for some reason!), and you'll soon be at each other throats!!
  20. Ring paddock motors on monday. Tell them your vehicle's VIN. Ask for the parts by name. They will be able to fidn the correct parts and if they send the wrong items will accept them back. Failing that.. and aswell as really now that you're a defender owner, do as ralph says and download the parts book and RAVE if possible... Can't find the link right now.. edit: LINK HERE
