OT (also "ish") Rising fuel costs
Chris Rogers replied to dreadnought110's topic in International Forum
Been watching oil prices daily, and when I was avoiding revision I stumbled across this article in the telegraph! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtm...C-mostviewedbox So potential good news, but I somehow doubt that prices will ever drop back below £1 a litre. To think of how expensive we thought it was then, and now we're seeing another 30p ontop! Lets keep our fingers crossed! looks like if we got rid of speculative buying then we'd have little problem. -
can always get a TD5 engine and wack that in.... we all know how much you love it!

Can't fit jate rings to back because of tow bar strut
Chris Rogers replied to Madcowz's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
I fitted mine ok by fitting them with the towing eye and towbar brace inside the jate ring, its a snug fit but means both the jate ring and the tow bar bracket are secure well i hope so anyway! -
new army land rover with a lump in the bonnet!!!
Chris Rogers replied to pux's topic in Military Forum
When i was out in Brecon a few weeks ago I saw all the staff using the ford engined 110 CSW and hardtops on the area. Seems a far better idea than all the white fleet they make us use and get stuck! all exactly the same as the few green 110s that are being sold by the likes of exmod. chris -

Chris Rogers replied to Chris Rogers's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)

Finially deciding to buy the new mantec snorkel, not really planning on doing any deep wading, but i'd rather have one than wreck me engine! Where's the best (cheapest!) place to buy them from? Cheers all, and hope you're al having a good easter! Chris

seeing this topics been dug up! Just passed my B+E a few hours ago with just two minors so i'm off to celebrate. Just some advice, no one ever fails on the manouvres, as you're allowed to move the car forward twice if needs be. But the examiners are very very strict on driving, and you are literally assesed at bus / LGV level, as that is what the examiners are assesing most of the time. Best of luck for anyone who goes of to do their trailer test, but get some lessons!

2007 defender bleeding to death again
Chris Rogers replied to Daniel TD5's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
Dan, can't believe the luck you seem to have with these things! But look on the bright side - let all this happen during the warentee period - least LR sort it that way. Chris -
where did you take the hi beam from in the end? I notice on my TD5 - that came with extra lights they've taken the feed from the dash board. Chris

anyone know where you can buy the plugs from? seems silly paying through the nose for a ready made set.

Is this a good price for an 07 Defender?
Chris Rogers replied to Lightning's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
does sound good, do you know any details of the MOD order? They may have a few more MOD quirks, like 24v electrics in places esp for trailers and radio kit. anyone wanna lend me £18k? -
Towing and trailer laws
Chris Rogers replied to jimmy_neutron's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
hmm, i've always heard it works via the plated maximum trailer mass but maybe i stand corrected! Currently looking into trailer tests atm, anyone done one of these courses? i *think* my trailer driving is reasonable good, just like my driving. But i guess i could be wrong! -
You should NEVER just uprate a fuse. A fuse is there to protect the cable from over heating and damaging itself. If you want to uprate a fuse, the entire cable needs to be of a greater rating than the rating of the fuse. In this case it'd be best to insert a relay for each indictator - this will add minimal loading onto the indictor circuits, and so fuses can be left as they are.

Sounds like alot of rumours! interesting with the defender though - but from what i hear its going to need a massive redesign in 2012 if its to remain suitable for the european market. hopefully they could put a TDV8 in it while they are at it! But dread to think what fuel will cost then....

Exmoor trim modular trekker seats?
Chris Rogers replied to draper40's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
guessing not! What makes you want to change the seats? I find the standard defender seats pretty confortable, and i'm 6"2. They're actually far superior to the seats in my ford focus! Couldn't drive it longer than 20 mins without being crippled. Maybe if you outline your plans a bit more u'll get more of a response? From what i know exmoor trim are a very reputable company. chris -
300 bar doesn't sound too bad, most scuba diving tanks are 250 - 300 bar, and people are happy to strap them to their backs and have lots of rubber hoses coming from them! Probably safer in a car!

Insurance - Who have I missed who's worth a Call ?
Chris Rogers replied to Hybrid_From_Hell's topic in International Forum
I'm very young, so this might not apply to you! Tried to get insurance with adrain flux for my 1992 defender 90 HT, the chap on the other end of the phone said ' you're trying you luck mate - i'd be impressed if you can get a quote under 2k for that..." needless to say i then managed to get a policy with elephant for just over £500 - rather cheap for a 19 year old. Think i may give the NFU a call for a quote when i'm up for renewing the policy though! -
