  1. Is anyone else having trouble getting on their site? https://rimmerbros.com/ Normally a site being down wouldn't be a concern, but in light of Bearmach going under.... They've rapidly become my source for genuine parts so that would be a real kick, Mods, feel free to delete if it turns out to be something my side or a temporary outage.
  2. From the photos it seems the other half was painted red and installed in someone's house.
  3. So this isn't exactly what this thread is about but I thought I'd share. I can't see many people wanting to nail half a Defender to their wall other than in some kind of commercial/retail application but could be a cheap way to get hold of a door and a wing panel. Taking a risk that they've not been butchered to make them into wall "art" of course.
  4. I have heard the Rhoads are noisy so it does depend on your reference point but the girlfriend was in the car for the first time a few weeks ago and asked why she could hear a pneumatic drill but couldn't see any roadworks. They've got to go.
  5. That's very informative. For the cost of some new genuine lifters, this has to be worth a go.
  6. I share this guy's level of enthusasim at this point. Seeing one (and driving one) may upgrade that position in due course.
  7. Sounds like you had a great trip. Shame the car let you down a few times but at least it was solvable. I've seen a fair number of Land Cruisers on the hard shoulder over the last year and one being towed by a Disco if that makes you feel better.... I wonder if things would have been better or worse if you'd turned up in something looking like it was trying to capture Stalingrad.
  8. Clutching at straws perhaps, but would this sort of leaking down effect the running of the engine? For example, if they're getting all the oil squeezed out on the upstroke, would that not shorten both duration and lift? Worse, wouldn't it make it variable for each valve as with these tolerances no two lifters would behave the exact same way?
  9. Bugger. Mine are still as noisy as ever after 1,000 miles so I am thinking I need to do the same. Rimmers sell genuine LR ones or Kent ones for the same money, can't really find any other branded ones. Even then, I'm not confident they're not the exact same as I have with a different box. Did you have any issues with bedding in new lifters on your already run-in cam?
  10. I'm not always wrong, but when I am... I drove past this one a few weeks ago down in Devon/Cornwall, looked really well sorted. Immediately thought of this thread. Surprising number of these things are named "Amber", it turns out.
  11. Doh... That was exactly the one I meant. I forgot there was one in between.
  12. That looks like the pre-Pulse ambulance body to me, might be wrong. It looks very livable to me, but then I'm not really a big person.
  13. Went for 8k, I don't think that's ridiculous given what it is, no matter how authentic or period correct. Well, not ridiculous compared to so much of the market at the moment, anyway.
  14. I'm trying to think why I don't want this car but my bag of reasons is empty.
  15. It looks great HOG and it's a job ticked off. Sometimes it's just better to pay out than endlessly quibble over what might be saved if you never did it at all.
  16. That's a really uncommon place for these plates. Normally it's the wing tops, sills (the ones running under the doors that is visible in your photo) and the rear quarters behind the wheel arches. I'd almost think that's what this plate is for, but it seems too large. Either way, it is definitely not meant to be fixed on only one hole. Looks like it's not been manufactured properly to me as there's no way that will stay in place on only one rivet, it should have at least four or you'll get grit and water behind it and corrosion will take hold. Personally, I would leave it off. If you're worried about that hole in the lower wing, I would look at corrosion products to stop it getting any worse and leave as-is, but then you haven't posted for opinions, only for advice.
  17. I finish my build and months later they go bust. Coincidence? I think not. I hope Mr Bearmach is enjoying the yacht I bought him. Shame, but I had noticed a slight dip in quality over the last few months. This leaves almost no choice but genuine parts now. Even these are starting to be difficult to obtain, when they're not charging £98 for a trim retaining clip or £90 for 5 clutch slave cylinder shims.
  18. I like to cut out the middleman and just not use it in the first place. The other option is a plinth to raise the vacuum by a few feet and only have to deal with the hose, doesn't have to be stupidly high to gain you the extra length. Another vote for Henry, and they come with long hoses.
  19. Ah, knew I'd miss the crucial bit. I do like the idea of having a big game of Geocaching for your own car though... Shame you can't just order one normally with the delivery address as the carpark of an Alpine hotel, have a holiday and then drive it back.
  20. Doesn't this sort of prove the vehicle you had (and presumably own) to get to the drop off point was just as capable as the one you're collecting from it? Seems like just as much of an advert for the many old Defenders that I suspect will be used for the outbound journey... I might be missing a crucial point but I only have so much time in the day to read glossy salesman marketing w__k.
  21. I've slowly come to the realisation that no one makes a car I want to own. And it's not that I'm one of those people that thinks it's not a real car unless it has carbs or you're not really motoring unless you're suffering in some way. The last car I could own that I "lusted" for was my Jaguar XF*. I've not seen anything I wanted nearly as much since then. They're all highly competent, efficient, fast and comfortable I'm sure, but that's not the sole basis for wanting to own something. *Don't worry, it ate it's own engine. I am not allowed nice things.
  22. Out of interest, did you do an autopsy on the 3.9 or had you just lost interest at that point?
  23. But on the plus side, it will be longer before we have to see that front end in public. Every cloud and all that...
  24. Is it removable? If that was configured as a 130 pick up the rest of the time, it becomes a £50k camper AND pickup*, which isn't ridiculous. *not including the base price of the vehicle, but who's counting
